Brexit also brings UK pork sector to standstill. Surprise eh? @RichardAENorth 🙄
UK pork processors are experiencing significant issues in exporting products to the EU, which has already brought part of the industry to a complete standstill, risking knock-on impacts on farm.
The widely seen footage of overzealous Dutch (*my edit: "no they were not"*) inspection officials confiscating ham sandwiches transported by British hauliers is just the tip of the iceberg as far as the UK pig sector is concerned.
The NPA’s processor members have reported that
excessive (*my edit: only for non-EU members*) bureaucracy associated with paperwork requirements are causing delays at Dover, Calais and other ports. With pork being a perishable product, these delays are making UK shipments unattractive to buyers in the EU, forcing processors
to reject shipments and cancel future orders.
Despite the trade deal agreed between the EU & UK just before Christmas, the UK’s formal departure from the EU Customs Union and Single Market was always going to mean additional checks, new labelling and certification requirements
and delays at ports. While the full overall impact of the new rules is yet to be felt, as UK export volumes remain lower than normal for the time of year, the UK pig sector is already feeling the effect. Processors have reported a number of issues, including:

John Sullivan / “#ActivistJohn” / "#JaydenX" Update
Our first thread about John was intended to help protect leftist protest communities from his harmful behavior. Since John’s little stunt at the Capitol during the DC #Insurrection, we have more to talk about.
(1/43)
This is a hella long thread... TL;DR: While it’s still unclear if John's end goal is chaos and confusion or if this is simply a side effect of shameless grifting — it’s clear that he continues to be a threat to protester safety whether he’s on the ground or online.
(2/43)
Frantically cleaning up John’s messes continues to be a waste of time and energy in the nationwide movement for Black lives. So let’s continue to stay ahead of him, establish a national lockout, and wrap up this weird saga so we can get back to work, baby!
(3/43)
Covered in this thread:
1. General updates (since our 11/26 thread)
2. John’s harmful tactics/behaviors
3. What happened last week (DC, 1/6)
4. Next steps
If you haven’t read our 11/26 thread about John, we recommend doing so for full
1⃣General Updates:
Shortly after our 11/26 thread, Seattle protesters made it clear that John is not welcome at our actions or in our online spaces. He later changed his main account names from “Activist X” and “Activist John” to “Activist Jayden” and “Jayden X.”

\U0001f6a8#SeattleProtests Community Alert:
— Rebellion Baby (@RebellionBaby) November 26, 2020
We have reason to believe that a likely infiltrator/agent provocateur by the name of John Sullivan, or \u201cActivist John,\u201d is attempting to insert himself in the Seattle protest community.
(sorry babe, long thread)

1) My friends, I will share with you publicly what I've been sharing with many of you privately.
2) The time for faith is not when you are getting your way, when everything is going well, when all your "prayers are answered."
3) That's the exact opposite of faith.

I think this is a critically important piece and that we should continue to add more and more nuance to this conversation. I would share that I don't think despair is necessarily linked to determinist and binary notions of gender.
When we think about criminalizing care for trans youth - which is what states are currently trying to do - the efforts are intimately connected to codifying notions of irreversibility and constraining bodily self-determination.
This is why we see bills both criminalize care for trans youth while permitting surgical intervention on intersex infants to "normalize" their bodies in alignment with binary constructions of sexed difference.
Many of the newly introduced state bills also mandate disclosure by school staff to parents and guardians of any trans or questioning young person thus chilling the ability of young people to safely explore their identities and bodies.
Despair is tied not only to forcibly having treatment cutoff and the state criminalizing transition but also in losing self-determination. Many young people who are accessing medical care do not (and will not) have binary identities.

Hi @uwebristol @vcuwe @EHRC @EHRCChair @KishwerFalkner @RJHilsenrath @trussliz @GEOgovuk
The Equality &Diversity Monitoring section of yr job application has 'gender' & 'gender identity' in what appears to be a list of protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010
1/16
'Gender' and 'gender identity' are not protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010 and are not defined in the Act.

2/16
Sex is the protected characteristic under the Act, but that is not on your list.
3/16
You then ask for the 'gender' of the application, saying, "This is your legal Gender" with options:
Female
Male
Unspecified.
4/16
'Gender' is not a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010 and is not defined in the Act. It is not clear what you mean by 'legal gender'.
