Adi Shankaracharya & Atma Shatakam🚩

ATMA SHATAKAM or NIRVANA SHATAKAM is a wonderful composition written by Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya summarizing the basic teachings of Advaita Vedanta

When Adi Shankara was a young boy of eight and wandering near River Narmada.....

seeking to find his guru, he saw Govinda Bhagavatpada who asked him, "Who are you?". The boy answered with these stanzas, which are known as "Nirvaṇashatkam"/ Atmashatkam". Govindapada accepted Adi Sankara as his disciple. The verses are highly valued which

lead to Self-Realization.

Here are the Versus

means👇

I am not the mind, intellect, ego or memory,
I am not the five elements, I am Shiva..

I am not breath, matter, nor the 5 sheaths of consciousness, speech, the hands, or the feet, I am Shiva... I am Shiva...

There is no like or dislike in me, no greed,
pride, jealousy, no desire for wealth,
I am Shiva...I am Shiva...👇
Same Propaganda again and again without Reading anything just to justify burning Manusmriti which is one of the most progressive text of it's time.

The Verses mentioned here are same few verses which are repeated again and again without context.

(Thread)

First Manusmriti 2.213 and 2.214 -

The Context is of Brahmcharya, this teaching is for Brahmacharis mainly.

What it means is that -
स्वभाव एष नारीणां नराणामिह

It is natural for Men to have feelings towards women, that's Biological. However these feelings are not good for Brahmacharis(~Celibates) that's why word दूषणम् is used.

So Brahmacharis should remain careful when they are around women

Point to noted that ...

Manu is not preaching women here, he is not asking them to restrict themselves, he is asking men to be careful around women.

Acharya Medhatithi compares it with Magnet and Iron, Just magnet attracting to iron is natural these feelings are natural.

So Magnet attracting Iron has no fault of Magnet at all similarly there is no fault of women and it's natural.

How can this be even remotely misogynistic?

The only way one can find misogyny here is reading this after closing their eyes
Wanted to share some thoughts on the topic of work life balance that @Kishoreciyer1 brought up and on which @wataboutery so eloquently expounded.

Early in my career I was lucky enough to work in roles I loved and under nurturing managers who were my mentors. (Contd)

2/n
I worked hard and long. But I always returned home not contended with that day’s work and hungry for more. That satisfaction at work made my home life enjoyable. I found time to play badminton and volleyball. Work and life were perfectly balanced.

3/n
I couldn’t wait to go to work. Great team and good manager.

But as I got married and responsibilities increased demands on my time grew, especially as just married man helping my wife acclimatize with US.

I sought work - life balance because ..everyone seeks, right?

4/n
As luck would have it 9/11 happens, economy goes for a tail spin, and my company files for bankruptcy. So time to buckle up.

This is when I realized work life balance isn’t what I sought. I wanted a satisfying work that did not require me to compromise key personal goals

5/n
Working hard to keep up the morale in a company in bankruptcy isn’t easy. But that gave my career a mission.

When you are passionate about your work and committed to it, and have a good manager you can find ways to be effective without compromising your personal life

Yet one more reason to reject those anti Hindu/anti Sanatani/anti Vedic so called (trad/tradcells/pseudo trad) Pandits & guardian of Dharma, who believe women don’t have right to study Vedas 👇:-
