Thread about what I've been doing and what I've found trying to trade options. All of this was inspired by @AdamSliverTrade @drippy2hard @WealthBrah .

First thing I do is find any good traders watchlist. Sometimes they put their triggers other times they don't. For practice sometimes I'll type in "watchlist from:AdamSliverTrade" on twitter to see all of his past watchlists.

Then I go to that date in trading view and only look at the past data to draw trend lines and support/resistance levels. So let's take $MU from his 11/30 watchlist and chart it out.

Normally I would look at the monthly candle, weekly, and daily to see if they have any continuity (all red or all green). But I can't really do that with past trades I don't know if the monthly or weekly were red before.

Here’s FIVE Trading lessons I’ve learned after blowing Two trading accounts

I’ve found consistency in this market after learning these lessons. I really hope someone out there can relate to some of these lessons and become a better trader ✍️

Lesson 1: Journal Everyday 📓

Write down every single trade that you take. How did you feel when you were in this trade? What type of trade was it? Did you follow your system? What time did you take the trade?

If you aren’t big on writing use @tradersync

Going back and reading your trading journal will show you what works best for YOU. It will show you what time of the day do you normally kill it and what type of trades have a higher win rate. From there you discard what isn’t working and implement what is working.

Lesson 2: Have patience

Of course you need to have patience waiting for clean set ups, but the biggest thing you need to have patience with is this journey!

It takes real time and effort to build skill. That same approach you had waiting 4 years to attain a degree is the approach you need in trading. You jump in the game and see crazy P&L’s left and right, but you don’t see all the time and effort traders put into this.

Stop losses help keep the size of your losses minimal and recoverable.

Personally, I recommend using a hard stop loss (especially if you\u2019re new) instead of having a mental one.

My hyper specific @unusual_whales strategy, The Blue Whalevator. A Thread.

This is an intraday strategy I've developed. It only takes huge whales, waits for confirmation, and filters out 99% of plays.

Fewer trades but high prob setups for bigger

The requirements are so specific and narrow that you will only get a few alerts a day. Once you get the alert, follow the checklist.

Today, the method took two trades so far.

$UPST 200c 9.00 > 12.20
$UPST 195c 10.30 > 15.00

The benefit of being hyper specific & requiring a long list of criteria protects us from false signals such as this one on $TSLA today.

Confirmation never hit and the move gave a false positive before breaking down. There's now a whale somewhere with an angry wife.

Here's another signal today that we would've not traded as it didn't meet the confirmation criteria.

As we are focusing intraday, we need to see moves in the desired direction occur relatively quickly to show that the momentum is there for an intraday play.

On Friday, the strategy went 3/3 moves for good gains.

It filtered out many more false signals by waiting for confirmation criteria.

The Truth About Trading (Thread)

1/ Risk Management & Consistency

Everything works in the stock market just NOT all the time. You can trade RSI, MACD, Bollinger bands, Volume, and they all will win for a period of time and lose for a period of time.

2/ YOUR JOB as a trader is to MANAGE RISK. Every good trading strategy WILL boil down to a 50-60% accuracy overtime and I know this from 1000’s of hours of back testing.

3/ To be profitable, follow this SIMPLE LAW:

AVERAGE WINNER > AVERAGE LOSER
Below is a table I’ve created showing the total number of winning trades (per 100) you need to win to be profitable:

4/ As the risk to reward increased the required win rate goes down. The sweet spot I’ve found is scaling out your positions and cutting your losers to get you close to 2X your average loser. In this case, you only need to win 34/100 trades in order to be profitable. YOU CAN DO IT

5/ The key to success in trading (repeat everyday):
1 – I have no attachment to any stock or instrument, my job is solely to manage risk
2 – I am a Casino; I take all trades that fit my trading plan because I know my edge is profitable

Step 2: Checking for Offerings

Once I have found a good chart, with a high risk reward ratio, the immediate first thing that I
do is to look out for any signs of upcoming offering. Since I don’t want to get caught in
offerings , these are the two things that I lookout for.

Mini thread of my strategy.

Disclaimer: I truly don’t feel qualified to share “my strategy”. There are other better experienced traders you should listen to. But here’s what I trade: MOMENTUM, FLOW & CNBC pump 😃

Every night I manually go through 50-60 tickers and find high probability setup based on previous day/week’s action. I chose to manually go through tickers as it helps me continue to learn my frequently traded tickers, their “personality” etc.

I set alerts based on levels I identify. Pivot levels such as previous days high, low, close etc. I tend to set my alerts few $$ below where I’d actually want to enter a trade. This way I can have time to pull the chart up, find the right contract without rushing into any trade

I’ve studied candle sticks and have particular candlesticks I tend to keep an eye out for when I go through my watchlist. Inside days, morning/evening star, spinning tops, hammer, harami, marubozu are some faves. Also note stocks with high volume and strong trend day.

I’m not big on TA as I find it to be too subjective. However, certain patterns that are obvious and that I can identify without squinting too hard, I take note of- bear flags, bulls flags, range breaks, obvious trend lines. I don’t force trends and patterns that don’t exist 😂

DARKPOOL:

DP are private exchanges for trading that are not accessible by the investing public. DP came about primarily to facilitate block trading by institutional investors who did not wish to impact the markets with their large orders and obtain worse prices for their trades.

How I use DarkPool with @Tradytics :

Levels. Levels. Levels. I use DarkPool as areas of support/resistance. Ideally I like to find stocks over (calls) or under(puts) large prints. These prints will help keep the stock moving the direction you want. These levels CAN break. See 👇🏼

website puts them on a nice visual graph. This helps get a quick snapshot of the stock price and where that level is with how big it is (in $$). The site gives you sentiment of the print and labels it 🟢 or 🔴

Tradytics DarkPool 2:
You can even scroll down on the site and find more information. It aggregates the prints into a DP levels chart, a graph showing the daily DP amounts and daily sentiment of those prints.

You always hear people let your winners ride or cut your losers early. Easier said than done, right?

Well, it's a mathematical fact that implementing this will improve your trading profits

The math behind leaving runners on and cutting losers early 👇👇👇

When trading, you have a 50/50 chance of being right. No matter which side of a trade you take, the stock can either go up or down.

There are certain indicators, levels, or other ways you can increase your odds of being right >50%, but you'll never get significantly higher

So, if our trading record is going to be ~50% right and ~50% wrong, how do we make money?

You HAVE to let your winners run and cut your losers early.

If your losers and winners are the same size (eg losers are -10% and winners are 10%), then you have to win 51% of your trades to make money

Example: you take 100 trades for $100. Winners win $10, losers lose $10. To profit, you need 51 winners (+$510) and 49 losers (-$490)

HOWEVER, if you let your winners run and cut your losers early, the # of trades you have to get right decreases

Example: you take 100 trades for $100. Winners win $20, losers lose $5. To profit, you need 21 winners (+$420) and 79 losers (-$395)

Let’s say you start with 1k and your win rate is 70%. You take 30% profit and 30% loss fixed. End of 100 trades you net around 45k excluding fees.

If your win rate is 60% you end up with 2k.

What’s the lesson? Be selective and keep your win rate high. You’ll win

Find setups with higher relative volume first 30 mins and ride trend

Find setups right at 10m 34-50 EMA and ride trend

Unusual Whales is an incredible tool that can take anyone's trading to the next level. It presents a ton of data, which can often be hard to synthesize.

This thread will provide a simplistic approach to analyzing and utilizing flow data. 🌊

Start with the "Hot Chains & Tickers" page. Not only does this display the tickers with the most option volume, but it also shows the most active chains. Better yet, you can filter by sector and market cap.

The "Intraday Analyst" page is your best friend here. The first thing I do is scroll down to the "Most Active Chains" table.

I'm looking for short-term exp. OTM contracts with heavy volume that look "unusual."

Examples are included below:

$LCID - Closed Wed. 11/3 ~$36.50. 40c weeklies required a 10% move in 2 days to go ITM. $LCID closed at $41.80 on Friday.

$AMD - Closed Tues. 11/2 ~$127.60. 130c got hit hard. Closed the week over $136.

$NVDA - Closed Thurs. 10/28 ~249.40, 250c 🔨. Closed Friday ~255.70.

Weekly OTM strikes with heavy volume can lead to huge moves. Now what makes these so unusual?

- OTM with little time to exp. = urgency
- Heavy volume on a certain strike can mean volatility in that area = good for options
- Vol. much greater OTM than ATM = big move possibility
