1.) Favorable demographic trends

Texas has the second-largest pool of nonvoting people of color (after already blue CA), and the numbers of potential voters of color far exceeds the margin of difference in statewide elections.

Joe Biden lost Texas by ~600k votes, and despite the record turnout on both sides, 4.5 million eligible people of color still did not vote according to exit polls and census data.

2.) "Level 5 Leaders" also known as:

Leaders who combine personal humility with indomitable will and are "infected with an incurable need to produce results" for the cause.

and Brianna Brown are Abrams-like Level 5 leaders who have built a relentless and effective civic engagement machine that has helped tip electoral outcomes in cities and counties across the state.

The Missouri Democratic Party is holding its quarterly meeting on January 30. I wish I could invite you to it, but the Party is closing the meeting to the public.

I strongly oppose this lack of transparency, and I am exploring every avenue to fight back.

I've been to every meeting since 2016, even those that required me to be on the road at 5 AM so I could make it for an hour and then get back on the campaign trail to ask my fellow Missourians to vote for Democrats. This will be the first one I miss; I'm not allowed to come.

That is especially true for the Missouri Democratic Party, an organization that has a poor reputation in many parts of our state, primarily, as I learned, because people are unfamiliar with what it stands for. At least, that's what I used to be able to say.

I learned about this closed meeting while I was preparing to protect government transparency at the Missouri Supreme Court. I thought the Missouri Democratic Party supported that given how quickly the Party capitalized off of my work, often without attribution.

Back in 2004, Ricky Williams, the American football player, left the Miami Dolphins after a third strike for smoking weed and disappeared. He’d had a notable career besides, but this was the capper: He said goodbye to his coach from Hawaii and vanished off the face of the Earth.

1/@RANDCorporation just put out a report on drug prices amongst the G7, and the methodology is somewhat appalling. I'm kind of hoping @DrugChannels looks at it because it contains such glaring errors worthy of an Adam Fein Policy Roast.

2/In the introduction of the report (p.viii) they admit that they can't actually compare prices of drugs because US drugs include rebates and many of those aren't public info. So they start out the report by saying they're going to use incorrect numbers....

3/"Although prices net of rebates and other discounts paid by manufacturers after drugs are dispensed are particularly relevant in the United States, these prices are generally not available to researchers."

4/Honestly the report should have stopped right there. How do you honestly proceed after such a whopper of a flaw in your own methodology? What's worse is they buried the useful observation

I’ve learned one particular hack for my brain but it still needs adderall to kick it off. Once the feeling overwhelms you of focus—a need to get shit done—I don’t let my indecisiveness slow me down. Non-adderall me will try to brainstorm a solution for 6 weeks & get nothing done.

When I was young one of the reasons why I was berated & called lazy so often was because on occasion I would do some Herculean feat w/ ease but wouldn’t do my homework or clean my room for weeks.

Because I didn’t *WANT* to. It’s a key issue in the ADD brain. A want is needed.

And to the uninitiated all that sounds like is “You just wanna do what you wanna do. You aint slick.”

But its not that simple. We can desperately want to get something done, know we need to & still can’t do it. Maybe under extreme pressure of a deadline but often not even.

Just jumped into listening to the Tipton status hearing in the Texas case and the Texas AG just said something wildly incorrect, that all 14,000 people held in ICE detention would be released—but that's just completely wrong. It only applies to those with final orders!

Tipton, admitting his lack of knowledge on immigration law, asks a series of questions about detention that suggests he completely buys into Texas's argument that anyone with a criminal record is per se dangerous. But they served their time! If they were a citizen they'd be out.

Kirschner pushing back on Tipton and the AG's focus on detention, making clear that the case is about "removal," not detention. He asks Tipton to lay out his questions fully so they can answer them.

Texas's AG office completely botches Zadvydas, claiming that if removable is not foreseeable the government has no authority to detain them.

That is simply false (DHS can always continue to detain on public safety grounds), and @CodyWofsy jumps in to correct that issue.

Pushing back, @CodyWofsy makes clear that "as a practical matter, people who have final removal orders are often detained for years," including in circumstances where there are practical issues with their removal (diplomatic issues, e.g.) and Texas's claim was just wrong.

so i’ve been looking at the alleged “putin palace” alongside a friend who works in real estate here in nyc and really knows their way around floor plans. they prefer to stay anonymous but together we’ve made some interesting discoveries

if you look at the 2nd floor, you will see that there are 11 bedrooms in total on that same floor, 4 corner units are larger suites with living rooms, others are adjacent bedrooms only

you will also see that the alleged "putin suite" is only a bit bigger than the other suites, of which there are four on this floor, and they all have similar features

meanwhile, the alleged "putin bathroom & recreation room" are positioned in a way that they share the balcony with two other, smaller bedrooms. you can also access this balcony through the indoor “winter garden” which is a common area

you can’t see the balcony on the photos they provide and the shots centering the part where putin’s suite is supposed to be are from far away only: is this because they don’t want you to wonder as much?
