How did I go from a busily scheduled life to one with substantial unstructured time?

1/ More creating, less consuming

I stopped obsessive mindless scrolling and started creating. Instagram for artworks. Twitter for thoughts. Unsubscribed from other apps. Saved a LOT of time.

2/ More deep focus, less context switching

I loved to be involved in many projects, but didn’t take into account the cost of making the mind switch between works. I decided to choose one important project and pour all of me into it.

3/ “It’s either hell yeah, or no”

I dropped projects that didn’t make me feel all fervent. I ruthlessly purged the guilt and FOMO. It was hella scary and uncomfortable at first, but was liberating over time. Knowing your why is the key.

4/ More focus on health and people

I was generous with time when it was for my health and people. I exercised, did yoga, went on for walks, and slept whenever I wanted. Same way, I didn’t look at the clock when I was with people. I resolved to be there and only there.

5/ Less worrying about saying no

Well, this was perhaps the toughest one for me. I was so used to being involved in many projects, that retracting myself from them was almost impossible. It was SO painful. Yet, I trusted it would be a wise choice long term and bore the pain.

DODDA BASAVANA GUDI/ NANDI KSHETRAM, BENGALURU

The biggest and exclusive shrine dedicated to Nandi.
The massive Nandi is carved out of a single rock of granite. Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, built the shrine in 1586.

Years back, groundnut was grown in this area. Every full moon night, farmers found their fields plundered. So farmers waited in their fields one full moon night. When they heard noise, one farmer threw his crowbar in that direction. To their horror, they found a huge golden bull.

The farmers fled away. When they returned next day, they found a huge stone bull in that same place. When the matter was reported to Kempe Gowda, he built a Nandi shrine there.

The farmers started the practice of a groundnut fare, kadalekai parishe, every year in Karthika.

It is said that the murti keeps on growing in size. The farmers nailed an iron peg on the head of Nandi, which is visible in the form of a trishula even to this date.

River Vrishabhavati is said to have its origin at the feet of Nandi, here.

Why Translators are important?

At the fag end of WW2, when Japan was literally on its last legs and USA was contemplating whether to drop the bomb or not.

The USA thought Japanese have no interest in Surrender and will fight to death because of that response.

They thought Japan was too aggressive to surrender.

So eight days later, they dropped the Bomb on Hiroshima.

Srikanteshwara Temple or
Nanjundeshwara Temple is a famous Shiva Temple located in Karnataka at the bank of river  Kapila. Temple is also called Varanasi of South. Nanjunda means one who has consumed poison.

Story is  related to the Samudra Mathanam when Paramashiva had to consume halahala.

Parashurama worshipped Mahadeva here to relieve himself from the curse of Mathru Hatya. While clearing the place to do poojas Parashurama's  axe hit the Shivalingam and it began bleeding, that

mark is still visible even today. Thus
it is also believed that Parashurama did Shiva Prathishta here

Sthala Puranam says that, once there was a demon named Keshi who disturbed the people in the area, after  getting blessing from Brahma Deva  and Mahavishnu. Mahadeva appeared

here and killed demon Keshi and blessed this place as Papa Vinashini. Whoever praying to Srikanteshwara or Nanjundeshwara, after bathing in the  Kabini River will be relieved from all sins.

DODDA GANAPATHI, BENGALURU

Dodda in Kannada means big. Sri Ganesha here is 18 ft tall in height and 16 ft wide. Dodda Ganesha is also known as Shakthi Ganapathi and Satya Ganapathi.

It is said that Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, saw a rock here.

The rock had engravings of Ganesha. His sculptors cut the Ganesha murti from that single rock. Later, a shrine was built around the Ganesh murti.

It is believed that Dodda Ganapathi is the protector of Bengaluru. All auspicious events start by praying to Him.

Benne Alankara is the most famous festival here when about 100 kg of butter is coated over Ganapathi every four years and the rich prasad is offered to the worshippers.

Ganesha is also covered in cream colour and is decorated with golden laces and buttons

The Dodda Ganapathi murti is believed to be still growing in size, especially towards right.

The weavers from old Bengaluru tie a coconut to their looms before starting work. When the work is completed, they break 100 coconuts here along with the one tied on the loom.

The presiding Devi of Mangalore, from whom the city has got its name.

In 10th C, when King Kundaverma of Alupa dynasty ruled over Tulanadu, two Rishis-Machhendranatha and Gorakanatha visited him.

They requested him to grant them land so that they could build their hermitage and make it a centre of their religious activities under his patronage.
They also told him about a place where Parashurama had prayed to Mangala Devi and built a shrine.

When the place was excavated under their guidance, the shrine of Mangaladevi was found. It was, then, re-established by Kundaverma.

It is said that unmarried women who worship Mangaladevi by observing Mangaladharavrata ( Swayamvara Parvathi) get a suitable match soon.

Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is located in Samayapuram of
 Tiruchirappalli district.  Mariyamman here is worshipped as Samayapurathal a form of Parashakti.
Amman vigraham here is made of sand and clay so

no abhishekam done to the main vigraham. Samayapuram Mariamman Temple is one of the famous Shakthi Sthal of Tamilnadu.

Story says that paramashiva created Kali, out of the poison that he drank during samudra mathanam.  As Devi originated from the Kaalakoota/ halahala poison,

thus the name Kaali. Mariamman is believed to be a form of Kaali, and is also known as Mahamayi. It is also believed that Maharaja Dasharatha offered his prayers here.

Mariamman is Parashakti herself who blesses with prosperity and she is believed to cure all diseases.

Paramashiva, Mahavishnu and Brahma Deva are believed to have taken blessings of Mariamman here.

Sree Vallabha Kshetram

Sree Vallabha Kshetram is located at Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district, situated on the banks of river Manimala.
Temple is one among 108 Divya Desam.
Mahavishnu appeared here as Sreevallabhan for Durvasa Muni.

It is believed that Durvasa Muni and Saptharishis reach every midnight to worship Mahavishnu. This is the only temple where Kathakali is staged daily.

Story says that vigraham of Sree Vallabha was made by Viswakarma and was given to Satyaki at the end of Dwapara Yuga.

Mahavishnu asked Garuda to safeguard vigraham and Garuda kept safe in Netravati river. Later, the ruler of Kerala Cheraman Perumal had a dream that the Krishna vigraham was lying on Netravati river. After searching the Vigraham was found and Cheraman Perumal

built a temple at here at Thiruvalla and Prathishta was done as per rituals.
Kshetram is also called Vaishnava Tirupathy. Those who couldn't travel Tirupathy offer their worship here.

The divine abode of Mallikarjuna Swamy (Jyotirlinga) and Devi Brahmaramba (Shaktipeeth).

When Ganesha was married before Kartikeya, he left in anger to Kraunch mountain. Shiva and Parvati also followed him there.

Shiva assumed the form of Jyotirlinga and resided on the mountain by the name of Mallikarjuna. Mallika means Parvati while Arjuna is another name of Shiva
It is also said that once, a princess Chandravathi, saw a cow shedding milk on a rock resembling a shivlingam.

She started praying to the lingam daily and used to offer jasmine (mallika pushpam) daily. Pleased Shiva appeared before her and agreed to wear jasmine garland (mallika pushpmala) on his head permanently. Since then, Shiva became known as Mallikarjun Swamy.

At this place, Shakti took the form of Bhramaram (bee) to kill Arunasur and settled as Bhramaramba Devi. The place is a Shakti Peeth as the neck portion of Devi Sati fell here.

It is said that by merely seeing the hill, one is emancipated from all his sins and worries.

Thiruvizha Mahadeva Kshetram is located in Cherthala and it is believed that Prathishta of temple was done by Vilwamangalam Swamy. Paramashiva is Swayambhu here and is worshipped as Kalakandha which means who swallowed

Halahala visham to save the world during Samudra mathanam. 

It is a famous temple where people seek the blessings, for curing the Kaivisham. The poison given by someone to destroy a person is made to vomit here. This is removed by making them vomit the poison by a special

medicine.
The medicine for vomiting is made from a plant near temple by Palodathu family. The milk offered to Bhagwan is mixed with the extracts of the plant.

Story says that once this place was a dense forest, and a woman was looking for the presence of a tortoise in the pond

and the tip of her stick hit the bottom and it started bleeding in the pond. 
Frightened, the lady informed every one and after searching in pond people found Swayambhu Lingam inside the pond. Thus Prathishta was done here.

SRI MURUDESHWARA KSHETRAM
BHATKAL TALUKA, KARNATAKA

Murudeshwara is another name for Shiva.
Once, Ravana prayed to Shiva to get his powerful Atmalinga.
Pleased by his penance, Shiva gave him the Atmalinga but warned him not to place it on the ground before reaching destination

To prevent Ravana from becoming all powerful, Sri Vishnu covered the Sun with his chakra. As Ravana always did Sandhya prayers, he needed to put the Atmalinga down. Sri Ganesh appeared as a child and agreed to hold the Atmalinga for Ravana.

However, Ganesha put down the linga before Ravana’s return. Vishnu also uncovered the Sun.
Furious Ravana tried to lift the linga but failed. It’s shape now looked like a cow’s ear. This place is known as Gokarna (Go means Cow and karna means Ear in sanskrit).

The case of linga fell 23 miles away at Sajjeshwar. He threw the lid to the south 27 miles away at Guneshwara in the form of “Vamdev Linga”. The thread winding the linga was flung to south at Dhareshwara and it came to be known as “Tathpurusha Linga”.

The cloth wrapped on the linga fell at Kanduka hills and took the form of Aghora at Murudeshwar.
The word Mrida comes from trampling of cloth and also means happiness.
So Murudeshwara is the Lord of happiness.
Praying to Shiva at these Panchkshtras frees one from all sins.

Chamundeshwari Temple

Chamundeshwari Temple is located on the Chamundi Hills. Devi is Chamundeshwari here and considered as one among the 18 Shakti Peethas. It is known as Krouncha peedha, as city was called Krouncha Puri earlier. It is said that 👇

hair of Sati Devi fell here.

Story says that Mahishasura had been granted a wish by Brahma deva that he could not be killed by a man or an animal and he began to disturb everyone.
Parvati Devi fought with Mahishasura taking the form of Chamundeshwari.

The battle between Chamundeshwari and Mahishasura lasted ten days and Mahishasura was defeated. This victory of good over evil is celebrated as the festival of Dussehra.

Gigantic Nandi of about over 15 feet height is main attraction here. Mahishasura statue, holding a snake and a sword is seen in the temple.

SRI MOOKAMBIKA DEVI, KOLLUR (KAR)

There was an Asura, Kaumasura, who was doing penance to please Shiva and get a boon. To prevent him from asking for a boon, Devi Saraswati made him dumb (hence called Mookasur)
Later, Adi Parashakti slayed him and came to be called Mookambika.

It is said that Adi Shankaracharya had a vision in which Devi agreed to follow him provided he did not look back. He kept walking and was assured of her presence due to the sound of anklets. When he reached here in Kollur, he turned back as the sound of anklets had stopped.

So Devi stayed here and merged with the lingam. The place came to be called Mookambika Kshetram.
The linga has integrated on it’s left side MahaKali, Maha Lakshmi and Maha Saraswathi and on the right side- Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.

A swarna rekha (gold line) divides this linga into left and right portion. Adi Shakthi in this Udhbhavlinga form appears only here.
Devi sits in padmasana and has 4 hands.
Adi Shankaracharya installed the Sri Chakra in front of Devi and also composed the Soundarya Lahiri here.

2019 தேர்தலின் போது ராகுல்காந்திக்கு தோல்வியை உறுதி செய்யும் வகையில் இருந்தது ஸ்மிரிதியின் தேர்தல் தயாரிப்புகள் ராகுல்காந்தி கேரள மாநிலத்திலும் போட்டியிட வேண்டி வந்தது. 2014 முதல் 2019 வரை ராகுல் காந்தியை தோற்கடிப்பது மட்டுமே ஸ்மிரிதி யின் ஒரே நோக்கமாக இருந்தது.

2019ல் அமேதி தொகுதியில் ராகுல் ஸ்மிரிதியிடம் தோற்றார். நாற்பது ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக காங்கிரஸ் கோட்டை என்று சொல்லப்பட்ட அமேதி முதன் முதலாக பிஜேபி யிடன் வீழ்ந்தது. காரணம் ஸ்மிரிதி யின் 5 ஆண்டு உழைப்பு.

ஒரு தொகுதியில் வேட்பாளரை எப்படி இறக்கி வெற்றி பெற வைக்க வேண்டும் என்பதில் பிஜேபிக்கு இணை இன்றைய தேதியில் இந்தியாவில் கிடையாது. இதை மற்ற கட்சிகள் அங்கீகரிப்பது இல்லை. அதனால் தான் ஒவ்வொரு மாநிலமாக பிஜேபியின் கரம் வலுப்பெற்று வருகிறது.

It is said that on the request of Raja Sumathirajan, Sri Perumal appeared and stayed here as Arjun’s charioteer (Partha-sarathi).

He is without chakra as he had promised not to wield weapons in Mahabharata war.
The face has scars caused by Bhishma’s arrows on Arjun. Prabhu took the arrows on himself to protect Arjun.

The Naivedyam offered here does not have spices. Ghee is used in it to cure Prabhu’s wounds. Sarkarai Pongal is famous here.

It is said that Rishi Bhrigu found Devi Lakshmi (as Vedvalli) in Alli flower in the mandir pushkarini. Later, Sri Ranganatha came here to marry her.
