The shrine is dedicated to Sri Vishnu along with Devi Lakshmi and Bhoodevi.
It is built in an area full of Champaka trees.
As champaka flowers are offered to Sri Vishnu here, it is called Champakadhama.

It is believed that King Janmejaya had sarpa-dosha. To get rid of it, he took bath in the nearby pond. He emerged with a golden body and sarpa-dosha was also removed. The pond is called Swarnamukhi and believed to have curative powers.
Sri Vishnu murti was consecrated by him.

It is also believed that this forest area was the Dandakaranya where Sri Ram stayed in exile.
Some believe that the original shrine was built by Pandavas.
The pushkarni/pond is emptied once a year so that the rock at the bottom (which has image of Anjaneya) may be worshipped.

SIDDHI VINAYAK, HATTINGADI (KAR)

Hattiangadi was once Alupa capital and the shrine is believed to be of around 7th-8th c.
Ganesha vigrah is about 2.5 feet tall, carved out of Shaligram stone. It is the only Ganesha murti where His curly black hair is left loose.

This was the place of meditation of Sri Govindarama Yathivarya. He had predicted that the shrine would attain fame in next 300 years.
Ganesha is believed to grow in size each year and since it is believed that he grants all wishes so the title of Siddhi is conferred on Him.

The offering of singara (areca nut flower) is considered extremely sacred here.
If the flower falls from Ganesha’s crown during aarti, it signifies that wish will be fulfilled.
Sahasra Narikela Ganayaga (pooja with 1008 coconuts) is another special prayer conducted.

This thread (daily with one verse update) is a Yagna of sorts. This will be on the famous Skanda (Kanda) Shashti Kavacham.

Kavacham (Kavach) is a shield - and the recitation of this hymn, daily, is sure to keep the chanter blessed, protected & provided for!

It contains 244 verses, of which the first 4 declare the hymn's benefits & the next 2 are an invocation of protection (kaappu).

Written by Balan Devarayan, a saint about whom much isn't written in Tamil history. But this one hymn carries his name forever, much like Morya!

ANJANEYA SWAMI, MULBAGAL (KAR)

Mulabagilu is originated from the word 'Moodalabagilu' in Kannada which means eastern door.  It is said to be the eastern gate of the Vijayanagara empire.

The Kshetra palaka Sri Anjaneya was installed by Pandava Arjuna.

After Mahabharata war, Arjun realised Hanuman’s on the flag that was tied to his chariot in war. Later Arjuna went on a pilgrimage along with the Hanuman flag. On the way he installed the power of Hanuman on the flag in the murti in Mulbagal (also called Shathaka vatpuri).

The murti is made on granite and about 12 feet tall.
There is a Venkateswara murti believed to have been installed by Maharshi Vasishtha.
A lizard is carved on the wall and people take its blessings as it is believed that it would free them from ills of lizard falling on body.

SRI ANANTESHWARA, UDUPI (KAR)

The biggest and one of the oldest shrines of Udupi. The deity is Vishnu enshrined in a Shivalingam.
As per legend, King Ramabhoja worshipped Parashurama on a silver pedestal here and Parashurama manifested himself as Ananteshwara.

It is said that Shiva taught Parashurama in various arts of fighting. As dakshina, Shiva asked Parashurama to reside here in the form of a shivlingam. Parashurama, an incarnation of Vishnu, agreed and so Vishnu is worshipped in shivlingam and said to be in the heart of Shiva.

Parents of Sri Madhvacharya had worshipped here continuously for 12 years to beget a child. The great Acharya was born in fulfillment of their penance. It was this place where Shri Madhavacharya obtained lessons from his Guru Shri Achyuthaprekshacharya.

Sri Madhavacharya is reported to have disappeared from human sight in his 79th year while holding a discourse on Upanishads at a particular spot in this shrine. Since then, this spot has been adored as a sacred spot, containing the invisible presence of the Acharya.

DEVI NIMISHAMBA, SRIRANGAPATNA, MYSURU (KAR)

The shrine of Devi stands on the banks of River Cauvery.
Ma Nimishamba is an avatar/incarnation of Devi Parvati and it is believed that she removes obstacles in a minute (Nimisha means minute in Kannada).

Once, King Sumanakha decided to perform a yagna for the well-being of all.
Rishi Mukhta started performing the yagna but was disturbed by the demons Janumandal and Suman dala. Devi Parvati, then, appeared before him and killed the demons. Rishi, then, hailed Devi as Nimishamba.

The shrine has Devi murti along with Srichakra carved on a black stone.
One unique feature here is the bali peetha. A big brass bell hangs from the ceiling of the shrine. After placing bali bhojanam on bali peetha, the archaka rings the bell. Crows appear to eat bali bhojanam.

Bhaktas offer lemon/ lemon garlands here. They are placed on Sri Chakra and at Devi’s feet
The lemons are later kept in one’s prayer room for few days and then dropped in fresh flowing water, wells or one can consume the lemon juice which is said to bring prosperity to a person.

MA CHAMUNDESHWARI, MYSURU (KAR)

The fierce form of Shakti who slayed the demons, Chanda, Munda and Mahishasura-the buffalow-headed demon.
Ma Chamundeshwari is the Kuldevi of the Mysuru Maharajas and the presiding deity of Mysuru.

In the earlier days, the Hill was identified as Mahabaladri in honour of Shiva who resides in Mahabaleswara. It is believed that the hair of Sati had fallen here, so it is one of the 18 shakti peethas, also known as Kraunch Peetham.

Later, Devi incarnated here as Chamundi.

Devi Chamundi killed Mahishasura after a fierce battle which gave her the name Mahishasura Mardini. Mahishasur was a mighty Demon who could alter his feature from a human to buffalo and was born to demon Rambha and Mahishi.

It is believed that the Devi murti was established here by Rishi Markandeya. An image of Sri Chakra which symbolizes the Devi herself, is also worshipped.

The shrine is famous for a black granite statue of Nandi and that of Mahishasura holding a sword and a serpent in his hands.

SRI DURGA DEVI, KUNJARU GIRI, NEAR UDUPI (KAR)

Popularly known by the names: Kunjarugiri, Durgabetta and Vimanagiri and installed by Sri Parashurama.
The high hills look like Kunjara (Elephant) for which the place is known as Kunjaragiri or Kunjarugiri.

It is said that after creating Kerala, Parashurama found a pearl in deep sea which he transformed into a nose ring and adorned it on the murti of Kunjaru Amma here. He also created four tirthas called Dhanus Thirtha, Gada Thirtha, Bana Thirtha n Parashu Thirtha around the hill.

Till day, it is believed that he is performing penance in the cave below the Durga Betta. The shrine of Parashurama is on top of the rock hill by the side of Gada Thirtha.
Sri Madhvacharya is believed to have visited the shrine every day during his childhood.

One day, when he was in the Kunjaru shrine, his mother called and he jumped straight to his house. To this day, his footprints can be seen on a particular rock.

This place is also called Vimanagiri as the Devas came by Vimana to offer floral tribute when the murti was installed

Southe is cucumber and adka is meadow in Kannada.
Here, Maha Ganapathi is out in the open field without a Garbha gudi and shrine structure. The place is decorated with lot of bells offered for special wishes.

Once, a Ganapati shrine revered by a royal family was destroyed by enemies. To prevent enemies from destroying Ganapati murti, the cow herds of the place carried it along with them and installed it in a place where cucumber was grown in plenty.

The farmers of the place reaped huge harvests of cucumber, offered it to Ganapati and wished to build a shrine there but Ganapati appeared in their dream and asked them not to build a shrine as that would mean restrictions on devotees visiting the place to seek his blessings.

So no shrine was built here.
The most popular seva offered here is avalakki panchakajjaya seva (a mixture of beaten rice, jiggery, til, coconut, honey and banana) performed on a regular basis.
Moodappa Seve is very prominent, which involves covering the Mahaganapathi with Appam

Kannudaya Nayaki Amman Temple

Kannudaya Nayaki Amman Temple is located in Nattarasankottai, of Tamil Nadu. Devi is Swayambhu here and is worshipped as Kannudaya Nayaki / Kannathal. Amman is famous for curing eye related issues.

Kannathal emerged here for destroying Mahishan,  an asura who is supposed to be killed only by a women.

Story says that, once people who were traveling through the area, could not proceed after a certain place. The people went to the King of that area and informed the same.

But the day before people met King,  Devi came in King's dream and told him about a Vigraham near the forest. King along with the people went to the forest and started digging. While digging, a person got hit in the eye and lost his eye sight

Later they found the Vigraham and as soon as it was taken up, the person got his eyes cured. As Devi cured the eye sight of the person, she is worshipped in the temple as Kannudaya Nayaki Amman.

SRI SIGANDHUR CHOWDESHWARI KSHETRAM, SIGANDUR (KAR)

Here, Devi is also called Sigandureshwari because of the name of the place Sigandur.
The murti of Devi was found 300 years ago on the banks of the holy Sharavathi River.

It is said that once a person called Sheshappa went for hunting near Sigandur and got lost inside the jungles. When he was resting below a tree, Devi came in his dream and asked him to build a shrine here. He told his experience to a Brahmin Duggajja and the two built a shrine.

People with land dispute and people who lose their valuables reach Sigandur for solution. It is said that more than 20,000 such cases have been solved here.  People who want to safeguard their land from the thieves get a board from the shrine.

The board says “Shri deviya rakshane ide (meaning the land is safeguarded by the mother) and keep this board near the land.

There is also a Bhoota Sthana here.
It is said that Sri Veerabhadra in this Bhootada katte is taking care of security of Sigandhur.

SRI SHANKARNARAYANA KSHETRAM, UDUPI DIST. (KAR)

Shankaranarayana is considered one of the seven Parashurama Kshetram created by Maharshi Parashurama. This is one of the rare temples where we can see the confluence of Shiva and Sri Vishnu.

It is also known as Kroda after Kroda Maharshi.
Once, two demons Kharasura and Rattasura were harassing people. Maharishi meditated upon Shiva and Sri Vishnu together. Pleased with his meditation, the two came here as Shankaranarayana and killed the demons.

Here, the main deity is in the form of Udbhava Linga. The swayambhu lingam of Shiva and Narayana is one feet below the ground, inside the Garbhagudi. It is not possible to see the lingam. The Shankara Lingam is on the right and Narayana Lingam on the left.

While Shankara Lingam is round, Narayana Lingam is flat with foot prints of cow on it. These are believed to be that of Kamadhenu who dripped milk on the Lingam. There is water around Udbhava Linga at any time of the year. This holy water is called Suddhamrita Theertha.

Hanuman Jayanti falls on the Shukla Purnima of Chaitra month. Hanuman is an incarnation of Shiva and the greatest bhakt of Sri Ram.
On this day, Sri Hanuman was born to Kesari and Anjana.

Once, Maharshi Vishwamitra visited Indra’s court. At that time, apsara Punjiksthala was performing a dance. Maharshi did not pay any attention to her. When Punjiksthala tried to disturb him, he cursed her to be born on earth as a female monkey.

When she asked for forgiveness, he told her that she will become the mother of the greatest bhakt of Prabhu on Earth. Later, she was born as the daughter of Kunjar (king of the monkeys) and got married to Kapiraj Kesari. Her name was Anjana and she gave birth to Hanuman.

Once, Ma Sita told him that she was applying sindoor on her forehead for Prabhu’s long life. Hanuman, then smeared his entire body with Sindoor to ensure Ram's immortality.
On this day, people also apply sindoor on their foreheads from Hanuman’s body as it is deemed auspicious.

“நீ ஏதோ டபாய்க்கிற.!” என்பேன்.

“நீ சயன்ஸ் படிக்கிற, அதனால் இதை எல்லாம் கேட்கிற. நானும் பிஸிக்ஸ் ஸ்டூடண்ட் தான்”, என்பார்.

3.நல்ல படிப்பு வர வேண்டும், மார்க் நிறைய வர வேண்டும் என்று எல்லாம் வேண்டிக்கொள்ளச் சொல்லமாட்டார், அவர் வேண்டிக்கொள்ளச் சொல்லுவது, “நிறைய அறிவு கொடு என்று வேண்டிக்கோ”, என்பார். இவை எல்லாம் எனக்குப் புரிந்ததே கிடையாது.

4.டப்பாவைத் திறக்கும்போது புரிந்தது.

புளி டப்பாவைத் திறந்தபோது, அதிலிருந்து சின்னப் பூச்சி ஒன்று பறந்தது. ஏர்-டைட் டப்பர் வேர் புளி டப்பா. மூடியிருக்கிறது.! அதற்குள் பூச்சி எப்படி வந்தது என்று யோசித்து தலையைச் சொறிந்தேன். நான் சொறிந்துகொள்வதைப் பார்த்துத்

5.தலையில் என்ன பேனா.?” என்றார்கள். தலையில் பேன் எப்படி உற்பத்தி ஆகியது என்று மேலும் பலமாகச் சொறிந்துகொண்டேன். ஷாம்பு போட்டுக் குளித்தால் அரிப்பு சரியாகிவிடும் என்று கூறினார்கள். குளித்துவிட்டு பெருமாள் சேவிக்கும்போது சாளரத்தைப் பார்த்தேன். சின்ன ஓட்டையில் எப்படியொரு பூச்சி
