Sthala puranam says that Vigraham of Narasimha was brought from Varanasi. Swami Padmapadar, shishya of Adi Sankaracharya, had worshipped the same Vigraham at Kashi.
A Namboodiri, on his way to Kashi saw a powerful light which disappeared here 👇

Namboodiri dug the place and he found a beautiful beautiful Vigraham made of Anjanasila. It is said that the vigraham occupied a site, which was the place of Durga Devi
Sudarshana Moorthy is about 6 Ft, Chaturbahu. Deepavali is famous festival here.

Bhagwan Shiva himself ruled Pandya Kingdom as Sundara Pandyan.Kingdom flourished well,all people there were happy.Many scholers,rishis visited Pandya kingdom to see Sundareswarar.Once Gouthama Rishi visited Madurai.After worshipping Sundareswarar,he went to meet Kanchanamala.

Kanchanamala,mother of Meenakshi devi welcomed Rishi Gouthama with all devotion&they were discussing about various things.She asked about ways& means to get rid of cycle of birth& re-birth.Gouthama rishi told her to be very fortunate&had done great penance in her previous births.

As a result, she has got Meenakshi devi as her daughter & Sundareswarar as her son-in-law in this birth.Rishi then told there are 3 types of Penance -namely Maanatham,Vaasikam & Kaayikam
Maanatham -involves doing charity,speaking truth,controlling senses&meditating Shiva namam.

Vaasikam -chanting Panchakshara matra-Om Na Ma Shi Va Ya,mantras from vedas, singing devotional songs/bhajans.

Kaayikam- doing daily pooja,going to temples,punya shetrams, helping physically in renovation &construction of temples,taking snan in ocean as all rivers merge there.

Kal Garuda Sevai, Nachiyar Kovil, Kumbakonam, TN.

Here the Stone idol of the bird Garuda, Stands as the Vahanam or Vehicle to the God Narayur Nambi.

Sri Garudalwar has a separate sannadhi in this temple extending about 10 1/2 sq.ft'.

He has beautiful big wings, broad chest and long hair.

Two times in a year, In the tamil month of Margazhi and Panguni, the festival called "Kal Garuda Sevai" is happening here.

(the festival where the idol of Narayur Nambi placed on the stone idol of Garuda and taken out into vibrant procession.)

There is a unique speciality regarding this Kal Garuda Sevai.

When taken out for a procession, until a step out from his sannadhi, he can be easily carried by 4 persons.

The moment he comes out, his weight would increase. He has to be carried by 8 persons, then further outside the praharam, again his weight would increase.

Then,16 persons are required to carry him.

Once again, his weight would increase. So 32 persons are required to carry him.

The moment they came out of the mandapam, he would get heavier and heavier ahead and 64 persons are required to carry him.

Once way back in 1940s/50s someone was conducting an interview with Kanchi Mahaperiyava. That gentleman recorded the interview in a Tape recorder.

“Does anyone know which is the oldest known #tape #recorder?”
Nobody was able to answer. Then Mahaperiyava asked another question:
“How did #Vishnu #Sahasranamam come to us?”
Everyone said Bhishma Pitamah gave it.

Then #Mahaperiyava posed another query:
“When all were listening to Vishnu Sahasranamam, who took Notes at #Kurukshetra thousands of years back?”
Again silence.
Mahaperiyava started replying to everyone.
“When Bhishma Pitamah was glorifying Lord Krishna with Sahasranama i.e,

His 1000 Names, Everyone was looking at him including Krishna & Veda Vyasa. After he finished 1000 Namas, everyone opened their eyes. First to react was Yudhishtra. He said, Pithamaha chanted 1000 glorious names of Vasudeva. Everyone listened but nobody bothered to

note it down. Now the 1000 Namas will be lost!” Then all prayed to Krishna & asked Him. As usual, He said I also listened like you, so what to do!
Then all prayed to Krishna how to get back the 1000 Namas. Then Krishna said, “It could only be done by Sahadeva & Veda Vyasa

Many Hindus are converted. The Vedic Varna order stands defiled. Temples are razed and people are systematically deracinated. But most Hindus resist and hold on to their culture. A unique feat in medieval history.

Events happened when#Hanuman went to get Sanjeevani herbs from dronagiri hills in Himalayas

It is beautifully craved in one of the pillars of Sesharaya mandapa in Srirangam Temple,TN

Laxmana was hurt after the battle with Indrajit,son of Ravana.He was wounded badly.Hanuman approached the Royal Physician Sushena for advice.Sushena asked Hanuman to rush to Dronagiri Hills and fetch four important plants.

4 plants/herbs:-Mrutha sanjeevani (restorer of life), Vishalyakarani (remover of arrows), Sandhanakarani (restorer of the skin) and Savarnyakarani (restorer of skin colour)

Hanuman flew across the ocean n reaches the dronagiri hills &since he couldn’t identify the specific herbs,he uproots the dronagiri hill &brings it back in time to save laxman.
What happened in hills:-
Ravana heard from his spies that hanuman has went in search of medicinal herb.

So Ravana sent his uncle Kalanemi to stop or delay Hanuman at any cost. Kalanemi disguises as a Rishi welcomes Hanuman in his asharam in the hills & then he persuades Hanuman to have a bath in a pond.

1. This morning we looked at wills & will writing but that is not the only component of inheritance. You can either die with a will or without one. Those who die without die intestate. And intestate comes in 3 ways.

2. a) If a person dies quiet a valid will,
b) if the person appointed to benefit from a will dies first & no substitution of heir is made
c) if the person appointed cannot take under a will.
The law focuses on the rights of the surviving spouse and the child if there is no will.

3. 2 major things affect intestate succession and these are date of death and marital status. This is because the current law ONLY affects people who died after 1 Nov 1997 & there are different laws that affect married & single people at death. The type of marriage applies too.

4. If you are married in terms of general law or what was once called ‘-Chapter 37’ & now ‘Chapter 5:11 or are married under ‘Chapter 5:07’ which is a registered customary marriage (muchato wekamudzviti) the Deceased Estates Succession Act applies. It’s only for registered 💍

5. If you are married under an unregistered customary law union (UCLU) which means having the traditional wedding without registration, the Administration of Estates Act applies. I don’t want to labour you with the technicalities but the distinction is very important.

1. I was walking in the woods yesterday and I had an epiphany. It wasn’t one I wanted to have. I was thinking about today’s class, where we are reading Kimmerer’s ‘Gathering Moss’. I’ve taught Braiding Sweetgrass in multiple classes every year since 2016. It’s eminently teachable

2. Both books are beautifully written. Students uniformly enjoy them as assigned reading. They do a great job communicating to non-Indigenous folks the contours of basic Indigenous relationships to more-than-human beings. They’re wildly popular with white readers.

3. I’ve found Braiding Sweetgrass to be a great entry point for non-Indigenous folks to Indigenous scholarship. But this is where yesterday’s epiphany comes in. Neither Braiding Sweetgrass or Gathering Moss tends to the deep deep lineages of Indigenous scholarship in Canada or US

4. As the popularity of ‘Braiding Sweetgrass’ has soared, I’ve seen more and more white folks wax on about ‘braiding knowledge’. But they often don’t know any of the lineages of these concepts beyond what is presented in this one book. They confidently run with this.

5. Kimmerer does a commendable job of weaving in her own experiences, her family stories+nods to some very important knowledge keepers who deserve to be celebrated for their work. But Braiding Sweetgrass does not tend to the citational politics Sara Ahmed & others teach us about

Vedic Education System delivered outstanding results.  These were an outcome of the context in which it functioned.  Understanding them is critical in the revival of such a system in modern times. 
The Shanthi Mantra spells out the context of the Vedic Education System.

It says:

सह नौ भुनक्तु ।
सह वीर्यं करवावहै ।
तेजस्वि नावधीतमस्तु मा विद्विषावहै ।
ॐ शान्तिः शान्तिः शान्तिः ॥

“Aum. May we both (the guru and disciples) together be protected. May we both be nourished and enriched. May we both bring our hands together and work

with great energy, strength and enthusiasm from the space of powerfulness. May our study and learning together illuminate both with a sharp, absolute light of higher intelligence. So be it.”

The students started the recitation of the Vedic hymns in early hours of morning.

The chanting of Mantras had been evolved into the form of a fine art. Special attention was paid to the correct pronunciation of words, Pada or even letters. The Vedic knowledge was imparted by the Guru or the teacher to the pupil through regulated and prescribed pronunciation,

Panniyur Sri Varahamurthy Temple is located in Pattambi Taluk of Palakkad District. This is believed to be the first temple in Kerala, where Prathishta was done by Parasurama

Story says that, Parashurama after

Creating Kerala was doing Tapasya here. But he was disturbed as the land faced turbulence. Parashurama sought Narada’s help, who advised him to pray to Vishnu. Parashurama started praying Maha Vishnu. Finally Maha Vishnu appeared and told to do Prathishta of his Varaha Avatar.

As Earth is saved in Varaha Avatar, this temple is famous to solve land related issues.

Many people conduct Bhoomi puja here, which is very special here. They bring sand from around the temple which is used for pooja and then has to be returned to the same spot 👇

from where it was taken.
It is also believed that Perumthachan, the legedary craftsman has abandoned his tools here.
