It's a mistake, and besides impossible, to search for "the first trans novel", however you define any of the terms.

So here's a deliciously incomplete list of novels in English by and about trans people, up to 2010, to highly variable definitions of "trans" and "novel".

Jack Saul, The Sins of the Cities of the Plain (1881)
https://t.co/nMby1oWmV5

Major work of gay/trans porn writing. Probably not by the actual John Saul, sex worker and occasional cross-dresser. Features the infamous Fanny and Stella, who were very trans:

Rachilde, Monsieur VƩnus (1884, English tr. 2005)
https://t.co/Ni2jYupQEu

Erotic novel of an abusive BDSM relationship which propels both characters into gender ambiguity, by a writer with strong but complicated male identification and presentation.

Irene Clyde, Beatrice the Sixteenth (1909)
https://t.co/0glyOrWdqk

Speculative fiction about a postgender (but very femme) society, by a lawyer, writer, feminist, pacifist, traitor and war crime apologist who expressed a lifelong desire to be a woman.

John Radclyffe Hall, The Well of Loneliness (1928)
https://t.co/du4qeItptV

Novel of sexual inversion, a sexology category combining sexuality & gender, by an invert who preferred the name John.

Dare you to go on telly claiming this as the 1st trans novel with a major publisher.
THREAD:
Good afternoon, followers of frivolous election litigation. There's a last-minute entry in the competition for dumbest pre-inauguration lawsuit - a totally loony effort to apparently leave the entire USA without a government.

We'll start with the complaint in a minute.

But first, I want to give you a quick explanation for why I'm going to keep talking about these cases even after the inauguration.

They're part of an ongoing effort - one that's not well-coordinated but is widespread - to discredit our fundamental system of government.

It's a direct descendent, in more ways than one, of birtherism. And here's the thing about birtherism. It might have been a joke to a lot of people, but it was extremely pernicious. It obviously validated the racist "not good enough to be President" crowd. But that wasn't all.

Don't get me wrong, that was bad enough. Validating racism helped put the kind of shitbird who would tweet this from an official government account into power. But it didn't stop

(Also, if you agree with Pompeo about multiculturalism - the legendary melting pot - not being what this country is all about, you need to stop following me now. And maybe go somewhere and think about your life choices and what made you such a tool.)
Yet another thread about white supremacist terrorism--which again, is very clearly what we are dealing with. Not just according to me, but law enforcement. So I am going to do a little explainer about what these people want and where their skinheads are at right now.

To start with, I'm not talking about the ā€œarmed protesters.ā€ There is overlap but not all goobers with giant guns are like this. The most violent white supremacist terrorists, though, are a lot like AQ or ISIS. Again, some actively nurture that connection.

We know they have been actively training and recruiting current/former military and law enforcement for years. Many attempted serious terror attacks that thankfully were prevented, like this one by a Coast Guard officer who made a kill list of Democrats.

What really makes these groups similar to ISIS is that they also want to trigger the end of the world as we know it. People like that are very dangerous, and they are currently emboldened because they believe the U.S. government is on their side--for now.

They are also shitting themselves at the thought of a progressive presidential administration committed to addressing racial/gender inequality and gun control, among other markers of an evolved civilization. These are people who want to take us backward, to a darker time.
