Normally at this time of year, I get to tout the successes we’ve enjoyed in #Chattanooga in the past 12 months, like initiatives that help our families, ribbon cuttings for park improvements, and economic development deals that bring good jobs.

As we enter 2021, it is also important to count our blessings. This painful, strange year, for example, has indeed brought renewed clarity to a lot of what is truly important. 2/

I’m thinking about the nurses, doctors, home healthcare staff, and medical providers who have been working harder than ever to care for COVID-19 patients and others. Every day, we witness their sacrifice and service. 3/

I’m thinking also about the police, firefighters, public works employees, teachers, child care workers, and other truly essential personnel who have shown unrelenting dedication to keeping us safe and educating our young people against truly staggering odds. 4/

The pandemic has been brutal on our small businesses and Chattanoogans already living on the edge. I appreciate our Economic & Community Development Dept giving rent and utility assistance and other kinds of support to the business owners and employees who need it the most. 5/

It is at jarring times like this where society is reeling most from the lack of journalistic integrity within the mainstream media. It is for good reason that just 9% of Americans have "a great deal" of trust in media institutions, with 60% having little or no faith at all.

I would like to know how anti-Semites, climate change activists, and BLM protest attendees took front-and-center in a supposedly Trump-inspired riot (given his stance as the most philo-Semitic president in US history, a climate realist, and an outspoken critic of mob violence.)

Unfortunately, the current state of most of the news media is to engage in the exercise of simply identifying whichever take is most politically damaging to Trump, look no further, and become steadfast in the resilience against the dangers of being confused by the facts.

Commentators are po-facedly presenting the outrages on Capitol Hill yesterday as a sincere (and allegedly Trump-inspired) attempted "insurrection" (by a rag-tag group of unarmed hooligans in MAGA attire), led by these Neanderthals, who stopped to pose for a mid-coup photo shoot:

The hypocrisy is scandalous but typical. If nothing else, at least Trump has reunified the country in regarding riots as bad and law enforcement as good. That is, until the next left-wing protest turns violent.

It’s interesting that so many people are talking about the issue systemic racism & white supremacy like it’s a new phenomenon & a new discussion. This county’s foundation is racist. From the moment the architects of the nation purposely exterminated native Americans &

We had a 3 month old come in, cardiac arrest. We did everything we could for an hour but there was no getting them back. The amount of misinformation about GRCs is staggering. LIterally dozens telling me I didnt know what a GRC is!

I know exactly what a GRC is.
The biggest misconception is that all these tens of thousands of self ID people have GRCs and that GRC gives them access to womens spaces. That is not correct. The issue is the Equality Act. No self ID person has a GRC.

There is also confusion over the fact a GRC doesnt need surgery or hormones (and yes I disagree).

A GRC may not require surgery but it does expect it. If someone hasnt had it there must he a legitimate reason as to why not. Simply not wanting it is not enough.

This provision was intended to support those who due to underlying medical conditions would not be medically fit for surgery.

The other confusion relates to the diagnosis.

A GRC requires one of the medical reports from an approved gender specialist.

Today Gardaí pepper sprayed, tasered and shot dead a young Black man with mental health issues. There will be an ombudsman inquiry, as there always is in the case of a death at the hands of Gardai. Some thoughts...

There have been many such deaths at the hands of police in the UK over the years. So many of them involve mental health issues. The @IRR_News has recorded many of those.

Police are rarely disciplined for the use of lethal force in the case of mental health issues, because the decision is based on the balance of threat versus force.

Butp police are not mental health specialists, and they make a judgement on the perceived safety of officers. Those judgements on threat are often based in biases that perceive ethnic minorities, particularly people of African descent, as more aggressive.

Policing of Black communities worldwide suffers from this bias problem, as do investigations into lethal force by police.
Police services rarely acknowledge these biases, nor do those bodies that investigate them.

2020 was a hard year, filled with unprecedented challenges.

We have a lot of work to do in 2021 but I am so proud of our office and the work we have accomplished in my first year.

Here’s just a sample.

In January, we implemented primary care diversion for parents to help break the cycle of incarceration.

In February, we instituted the boldest bail reform policy in the nation, ending our office’s practice of asking for cash bail.

We also implemented groundbreaking new policy directives to stop racist pretextual stops and end the use of gang and status enhancements.

In March, in response to COVID-19, we began our work to safely reduce the jail population to prevent an outbreak in the jails and our community. Ultimately we reduced the jail population by about 40%.

In April, we started an innovative Economic Crimes Against Workers Unit to protect vulnerable workers from exploitation—especially during the pandemic.

I used to talk more openly about my experience as a trans person, which is why I think so many people started following me. At some point last year, as I was about to hit 3 years of transition, I became deeply uncomfortable with trans community, discourse, & my lack of privacy.

My own gender dysphoria & internalized transphobia came raging back in ways that I didn’t expect it to. I’ve been struggling for the better part of a year. I rarely take selfies anymore. I closed my DMs, which I used to use to support others. I don’t talk about being trans much.

I spent most of 2020 becoming completely disillusioned by the effectiveness of hormones. Basically, I’ve built up a lot of resentment about finding myself on the wrong side of YMMV. I feel miles behind where I should be when comparing my experience to that of my peers.

In therapy, I’m back to working primarily on gender dysphoria, positive self-talk, & proactivity in transition. Like many people, my transition stalled completely in 2020. I accomplished nothing new, practically speaking. No documents signed, no dates set, no dreams coming true.

My therapist & I are working on learning to be happy if - hypothetically - transition were over right now. No more puberty, no surgeries, no changes. How do I go from feeling unsatisfied, jealous of others, & resentful to feeling happy, hopeful, & secure in my body & my identity?

Clear communication is so important in times of national crisis. With no articulation of the goals and challenges, there is wavering trust in our leaders to lead us through this long dark period of Canadian history.

This is true for all levels of health care administration.

With the Covid pandemic, physicians and nurses locally rallied to the cause. We enjoined with our leaders on this great and patriotic national enterprise to keep our patients and our communities safe.

We were all in it together; and then we were not.

I am, through daily conversations with nursing and physician colleagues, coming to the sad realization that many health care providers now feel abandoned.

We know vaccinations are coming on stream and though we are seeing Covid patients, we also realize that there are individuals and communities in greater need and that we will have to be patient.

What is truly irksome is the total lack of communication from health care authorities and leaders.

They operate behind shrouds of silence. Information is limited, is released in dribs and drabs and is generally unhelpful.

Bear with me here for a moment.

There are acceptable "censorships" and censorships which you should stand up against - because sooner or later the latter will bite you in the ass too.

So, on the top of the acceptable so called "censorship" - it's basically platforms and media moderating content published there. It is better when they have their own criteria, more conservative than the legal framework, in order to keep content in line with their goals/agendas.

Under this fall, e. g., news portals moderating comments under their articles and hand-picking their staff and guest authors who are being published on it.

It also applies to fringe portals; Breitbart has a full authority to censor me if I go nuts and decide to comment there.

I will mention here free market for the first time. Free market provides and private media (unlike one owned by the state) are not expected to be unbiased. There are obviously issues with that too, but it's less of a problem than not having them like that.

So, you get it. You run a platform where you publish your content and you want to try and benefit from your consumers' engagement. Please, by all means, do moderate it. I don't care where you are on the political or social spectrum - moderate the hell out of it.

When you begin to see how many harmful practices are tied to and/or depend upon abortion, you can't ever look at it the same:

- rape
- child brides
- human trafficking
- corporate denial of loss for fetal homicide, miscarriage, or stillbirth
- lack of informed consent for minors

- domestic violence
- marginalization of the impoverished
- ableism against otherly abled
- misogyny of sex selection
- targeting of minorities/refugees/immigrants
- gaslighting of women wounded
- disempowerment of women who want to birth live children
- children seen as burdens

- separation of mother/child bond
- wedge between fathers and mothers
- removal of father's rights
- encouragement to men to treat women as sport
- perpetual dismissal of child rights
- degradation of women's biology
- ignorance of maternal mortality causes/solutions

- doctors pitted against patients
- conscience protection ripped from practitioners
- a shift from triage to hierarchy of human worth
- creating categories of despensible people
- encouraging death in response for suffering
- reduction in the value of human life

- research on humans that gave no consent
- separation, transfer, and sale of human body parts
- eugenics
- attempts to create "ideal" humans
- eugenics in IVF practices
- disposal of millions of embryos in IVF
- commodifcation of humans
- sale of humans in adoption practices
