The nuance of this issue is that while the left positions all of this as an organized, massive movement of white supremacists in the traditional way of understanding them, their attempt at 'multiracial whiteness' demonstrates how they are struggling to manage the complexity.

I remember the Pulse terrorist attack vividly.
I remember walking into work and seeing the quiet, concerned look on my coworker's faces unsure of what to say or do.
I remember my friends calling me to ask if I was ok and suddenly feeling like the LGBT community was one.

White supremacist thinking became nearly extinct as society moved beyond the idea of race and encouraged race neutrality.

The reality is white racism, which was a specific and cultural mindset, inspired a reactionary black identity movement in the 60's and 70's.

The issue conservatives have is not what the left is doing to themselves, but what they're imposing onto us.

Progressive policies force compliance, they don't unite or persuade or offer.

They use the full force of government to make you do what they believe is best.

Liberty and Freedom:

You want the freedom to be racist.
You want the liberty to terrorize POC and LGBT.
You want the freedom to discriminate and hate.

Remember, the left believes Trump was the result of rightwing hate being allowed to share platforms with civil, good and decent truth-telling people (them)

Since Fox News started they have wailed at the existence of conservative media as dangerous to the country.

The right as spent years trying to paint @NancyPelosi & @HillaryClinton as extreme leftists who will take your guns, sterilize your sons, outlaw Christianity, and tax you at 80%.

The far left has tried to insist that they were both Republican-lite.

The facts are these.

@HillaryClinton and @NancyPelosi have been fighting people, usually white men, for tnings their entire lives.

With little respite.

At times they have had to make impossible choices and compromises just to beo let in the door. Most women have.

It must be easy to be some 26 yo white dude who has never had anyone tell him no his whole life to sit in judgement of women like them.

"How dare she..."

...do what was necessary to get a place at the table.

...do exactly what men have been doing w/o your disapproval.

Let's face it, most men suck when it comes to issues that don't pertain directly to their own self interests. White men are even worse. We just are.

Most men especially suck when it comes to women's issues and I mean really suck.

Remember: Just because an idea is old doesn't mean it's good.

Knowing whether old ideas are more likely to be good requires understanding whether conditions have changed in important ways.

Horse archery was an amazing method of warfare for over a thousand years...then people invented guns, and suddenly this great idea that had stood the test of time became obsolete.

Then again, when underlying conditions don't change much, tried-and-true approaches are probably better.

"Learning the lessons of history" usually just means assuming ergodicity and stationarity in an informal time-series model...

2/ Dr. King delivered his speech in what he called the “hallowed spot” of the Lincoln memorial. More than a picturesque backdrop, King relied on America’s reverence for Lincoln and the common celebration of Lincoln’s words and acts, especially the Emancipation Proclamation.

3/ “Five score years ago…” King echoes the words of the Gettysburg Address. Like Lincoln, King invokes the Declaration of Independence and the fundamental principles of American freedom, “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Every person in that crowd knew these words.

4/ The Declaration, Constitution and Emancipation Proclamation declared and established the fundamental American principles of freedom that all Americans knew and believed in. But these principles and promises remained unfulfilled for black Americans.

5/ Lincoln’s audience knew the history of slavery and many had suffered personal loss in the ongoing war. Dr. King’s audience knew the history of violent racism, segregation, and unequal economic opportunity. The Proclamation freed the slaves, “but the Negro still is not free.”
