On 09/01/21, Mohamud Mohamed Hassan, a healthy young black man, died shortly after his release from police custody with severe injuries. We want to find out why he died, and take appropriate action.
5/ How did our beloved Mohamud die?
Mohamud Mohamed Hassan, 24, was arrested by South Wales Police at his home on the evening of Friday 8th January 2021 for a breach of the peace

6/ ...Mohamud Mohamed Hassan taken to Cardiff Bay police station. During his arrest, an upstairs neighbour reported a massive commotion in the flat below.

7/ Mohamud Hassan was released without charge from Cardiff Bay police station on the morning of Saturday 9th January. He then took a taxi home. The driver asked about his distressed state & Mohamud disclosed that he had been severely beaten by the police.

8/ Mohamud’s tracksuit was splattered in blood, he had severe injuries to his mouth, he had visible bruises, and he was limping.

9/When Mohamud arrived home, a friend immediately called the neighbour, who became so distressed that she called other family members of Mohamud who quickly arrived who encouraged him to seek immediate medical attention, but he replied, “I am broken”& said he had to rest first
10/ After his injuries were photographed, he went to his room to sleep. That evening, a friend attempted to wake him, but he was unresponsive.
When the ambulance paramedics arrived, they declared him dead.

11/South Wales Police entered the residence & locked it off. The family say Mohamud was afforded no dignity while he lay dead on the kitchen floor.

12/ South Wales Police repeatedly refused requests from the family to be allowed to formally identify Mohamud, and when his father arrived he was also denied that opportunity.
https://t.co/C32HmfQsYn
13/ Mohamud’s family feel they were treated with a lack of respect by the officers in attendance. The behaviour of the police fell far short of expected professional standards.

14/ The legal case.

This case has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Complaints, who will look at police behaviour during Mohamud’s arrest, his conveyance to Cardiff Bay police station, and during his detention in custody.
15/ The family have instructed Virgo Consultancy Services Ltd to independently uncover the facts as to what caused the death of a healthy 24-year old black man shortly after his release from the custody of South Wales Police.

https://t.co/C32HmfQsYn
16/ Mohamud’s family now anxiously await the disclosure of police documentation, including taser logs, & of video footage from CCTV & body-worn cameras that should have been activated during his arrest, plus all records relating to the sequence of events during his custody
17/ Mike Mansfield QC has been retained.

What we are trying to achieve.

Mohamud’s family and the wider community want honest and transparent answers as to the cause or contributing factors that led to his death.

https://t.co/C32HmfyRzN
18/ Given the historical allegations of institutional racism levelled at South Wales Police, we need to ensure that the investigation is subjected to independent legal scrutiny, which can only be achieved by engaging the services of independent expert witnesses.
19/ How much we want to raise and why
In the first instance, we need to raise £5,000 on this platform to independently uncover and challenge the facts of this unexplained death.

https://t.co/C32HmfQsYn
20/ Further funds may be needed for investigation, or if evidence is uncovered that enables us to take an action against South Wales Police.
Thank you for your support.

Police racism is not just an American problem....
23/ That's why we need to be absolutely unflinching in our commitment to antiracism, and willing to tell the truth about how black communities have been impacted by the actions of an often unaccountable police force.

So, as the #MegaMillions jackpot reaches a record $1.6B and #Powerball reaches $620M, here's my advice about how to spend the money in a way that will truly set you, your children and their kids up for life.

Ready?

Create a private foundation and give it all away. 1/

Let's stipulate first that lottery winners often have a hard time. Being publicly identified makes you a target for "friends" and "family" who want your money, as well as for non-family grifters and con men. 2/

The stress can be damaging, even deadly, and Uncle Sam takes his huge cut. Plus, having a big pool of disposable income can be irresistible to people not accustomed to managing wealth.
https://t.co/fiHsuJyZwz 3/

Meanwhile, the private foundation is as close as we come to Downton Abbey and the landed aristocracy in this country. It's a largely untaxed pot of money that grows significantly over time, and those who control them tend to entrench their own privileges and those of their kin. 4

Here's how it works for a big lotto winner:

1. Win the prize.
2. Announce that you are donating it to the YOUR NAME HERE Family Foundation.
3. Receive massive plaudits in the press. You will be a folk hero for this decision.
4. Appoint only trusted friends/family to board. 5/
We finally have the U.S. Citizenship Act Bill Text! I'm going to go through some portions of the bill right now and highlight some of the major changes and improvements that it would make to our immigration system.

Thread:

First the Bill makes a series of promises changes to the way we talk about immigrants and immigration law.

Gone would be the term "alien" and in its place is "noncitizen."

Also gone would be the term "alienage," replaced with "noncitizenship."

Now we get to the "earned path to citizenship" for all undocumented immigrants present in the United States on January 1, 2021.

Under this bill, anyone who satisfies the eligibility criteria for a new "lawful prospective immigrant status" can come out of the shadows.

So, what are the eligibility criteria for becoming a "lawful prospective immigrant status"? Those are in a new INA 245G and include:

- Payment of the appropriate fees
- Continuous presence after January 1, 2021
- Not having certain criminal record (but there's a waiver)

After a person has been in "lawful prospective immigrant status" for at least 5 years, they can apply for a green card, so long as they still pass background checks and have paid back any taxes they are required to do so by law.

However! Some groups don't have to wait 5 years.
Patriotism is an interesting concept in that it’s excepted to mean something positive to all of us and certainly seen as a morally marketable trait that can fit into any definition you want for it.+

Tolstoy, found it both stupid and immoral. It is stupid because every patriot holds his own country to be the best, which obviously negates all other countries.+

It is immoral because it enjoins us to promote our country’s interests at the expense of all other countries, employing any means, including war. It is thus at odds with the most basic rule of morality, which tells us not to do to others what we would not want them to do to us+

My sincere belief is that patriotism of a personal nature, which does not impede on personal and physical liberties of any other, is not only welcome but perhaps somewhat needed.

But isn’t adherence to a more humane code of life much better than nationalistic patriotism?+

Göring said, “people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.”+
