Lets start with the harsh truth.

80% of traders just maintain a trading journal and never evaluate.

Recording your trades on day-to-day basis is just maintaining a trade book which your broker can furnish anytime.

Hence this exercise of recording trades is simply futile.

Things to record in the Trading Journal:

Once all the records are in place you need to build an analytics tool.

Trade records on its own is just the raw data which needs to be processed to derive info out of it.

Record your 50 or 100 trades.

Thereafter, analyse the following:

1. No. of wins
2. No. of Losses
3. % of winning trades ( No. of wins/Total trades)
4. Avg gain %
5. Avg loss %
6. Gain to Loss ratio ( 4./5.)
7. Reward to Risk ratio
8. Open Risk

1/ Free Multi Timeframe Analysis:

Step 1. Download Vivaldi Browser

Step 2. Login to trading view

Step 3. Open bank nifty chart in 4 separate windows

Step 4. Click on the first tab and shift + click by mouse on the last tab.

2/ Create Free Multiple Watchlists:

Step 1: Download @TradingView app on your mobile phone, and login.

Step 2: Now create watchlists eg: World Indices, Banking Stocks, NIFTY50 stocks etc.

Step 3: Now go back to your tradingview web browser and click on refresh and you will see the watchlist names on the web browser.

Step 4: Now simply add names in your watchlist on the web browser by clicking on the plus sign.

1/ Option Premium consists of two things:

i) Intrinsic value which represents how much money the option would be worth if it were to expire right now.

ii) Time value represents the premium you pay since the option does not expire right now.

2/ Intrinsic value:

•It is the difference between the strike price and the asset's current market price when the difference is positive.

•Intrinsic value for ITM calls> 0.

•Positive payoff for the buyer.

• Theta represents the time value decline of an options contract.

•Time value is the additional amount over & above Intrinsic value.

•Time value on an option with 20 days to expiry > Time value on an option with 2 days to expiry.

1. Know where the market won't go:

Our minds are usually wired to be curious about where a stock or an index will move. ,

However, when it comes to option selling, we need to know where the market certainly won't go.

2: Theta/ Time Decay:

Option is a wasting asset, hence theta/time decay is a friend of option sellers.

Option sellers have a natural edge because the value of the option decreases as time goes by.

3. Benefit of premium eating of OTM options:

OTMs usually have a higher probability of going to zero, option sellers try to gobble up these strikes, and adjust their positions or exit with an SL if need be.

4. When to play non - directional:

When an index is trading within a range.

Let's say, BNF is trading within a range of 44000-42500 then one can look to sell CE options of 44k and above and PE strikes of 42500 and below.

If I had to buy 1 stock today, anywhere in the world, no avg. up or down, 5 year holding period (I will make that as 10 year for thesis to play out)

Since I track mainly Indian equities, restricting the choice to this space

Few points to look for
1. Strong macro tailwind rather than headwind, huge growth runway for company/segment. It can't be in a niche space & demand must not be easily substitutable
2. Strong Biz Model, high growth curve (15%+ over the period), strong ROE profile (hurdle rate 20%)

3. Low or no leverage, efficient capital allocation, (read minimal or zero fresh dilution requirements), strong cash flows and correspondingly high dividend payout ratios (consistent dividend history) and finally strong moat and with limited regulatory involvement / no reg issues

4. Promoter quality and intention must be beyond reproach, proven management with skin in the game
5. Capability to manage disruption, and if possible to even profit from it. If you can't be disrupted easily, you will eventually adapt your game to gain scale

6. There must be a possibility of non-linear growth if the scale-up hypothesis gets proven right. It's like an FD with low fixed return plus significant upside optionality. Multiple revenue streams / margin levers / IP that can provide non linearity in growth

Don’t underestimate the power of circuit stocks;
and never underestimate the power of micro caps!
They give the cleanest textbook setups and respect fib levels.

Mind you, you’ve to time your entries and exits perfectly.
