I wandered down to the Supreme Court, where folks participating in the “Jericho March” are scheduled to pray for SCOTUS/Congress to oppose the 2020 election results.

Also here: folks wearing albs and blowing…smoke out of shofars.

The, uh, nature of the smoke is…unclear.

Another person is brandishing an American flag and wearing…a Guy Fawkes mask?

There’s a lot going on here, people.
As folks mull about, organizers are blasting an overtly Christian nationalist anthem.

“God bless America again, We need the blood of Jesus to wash away our sins…”
We’re now all being asked to leave because police say they’ve found a “suspicious package” nearby.

As people leave, some chant “four more years!”

Others, draped in US flags, blow shofars (without smoke).
Officer telling people “usually this stuff is short-term” (which, in my experience working as a reporter in DC, is often true).
People keep blowing shofars.

There are so many of them.
Oh wow.

Some people in the crowd are upset the gathering has been paused.

They’re gathering across the street from SCOTUS, yelling at police.

“A suspicious package is nothing compared to eugenic tyranny!”

“You all work for Chinese Communists!”

Now singing “God Bless America”
Some people are yelling back “We back the blue!” And “they busted Antifa!”

Others are praying: “This is not about fighting, this is about supporting ‘One Under God.’”

Another: “We feel cheated…we want you to intervene (God).”
At the Capitol now, where people with flags are dancing to the theme from the conservative Christian movie “God’s Not Dead” as people blow shofars.
More Jericho Marchers now, holding flags and signs with Trump’s face on them while singing “How Great is Our God.”
Spoke to the shofar-blowers at the top of this thread.

They are absolutely here as part of the protest. And they are very, very interested in cannabis, which is part of their faith: the Healing Church of Rhode Island.

More in my forthcoming report.

This is also the Rochester Police - dreadful mishandling of an altered mental status call - which led to their current crisis team, which was unavailable (and they didn't wait for in a low threat situation as they could have) for this 9 y/o!

In both cases there is a failure to use good judgement, make a valid threat assessment, to match in force to situation, failure to choose to wait for safer and appropriate staff/conditions and to use their time wisely. They also treat 'perp' as more object than human.

By the way... Rochester is near Buffalo - where this happened...
As usual, @C_Stroop is right that we need to get ready to roll up our sleeves. This doesn't end on inauguration day. Christian Nationalism needs to be in the spotlight it must be exposed to be fought. Small town Christo-fascism is on the rise, and my hometown is an example. 1/

My hometown is Alamogordo, New Mexico. It's a military town. Holloman Air Force base is nearby, and so is the Army's White Sands Missile Range. It's also a hotbed of White Evangelical Christian Nationalism. 2/

Currently, the most notorious Christian Nationalist from Alamogordo that I can think of is Couy Griffin (no relation to me). He's a former pastor, turned County Commissioner, and founder of the group "Cowboys for Trump." I've talked about him before.

Couy Griffin and his Cowboys for Trump attended the the Coup Klux Klan in D.C. I'm not surprised. They went prepared for extremism. Here's a quick video of them outside the kitschy "Running Indian" trading post just outside Alamogordo. 4/

Notice what they say. "Give me liberty or give me death" and "We've god God on our side, and we've got the Truth on our side." Probably every Ex-evangelical I know has heard those words in church. 5/
