Last week Hizbollah's finance institution Al Qard el Hasan was hacked by Spiderz. A group of people took that Data and tried to make sense out of it. Below are the findings

Loans are provided to borrowers for gold deposits or other guarantees, to the association's members and to unsecured applicants.

AQAH had a carried forward loan balance of $450 million as of December 31, 2019. This balance has been increasing at a yearly rate of 13.4%.
AQAH laundered around $475 million in 2019 in the form of disbursed loans paid to more than 20,000 borrower accounts; mostly to borrowers with gold deposits.
Deposits accounts have been offered to 307,000 members of the association, 83,000 contributors as well as to 600 companies. AQAH closed 2019 with an overall depositors accounts balance of around $500 million.
Around $1.5 billion were deposited in 2019 to AQAH customer deposit accounts.These were then withdrawn by customers in the same year. Massive withdrawals in 2019 left AQAH with no deposit growth for the year.
The above mentioned $500 million is the carried forward cumulative balance.

AQAH successfully recycled in 2019 around $1.5 billion to Hezbollah's informal economy through its deposits clearing system.
AQAH operates 28 offices in Lebanon: 14 offices in South Lebanon, 9 in Beirut and 5 in East Lebanon close to the Syrian borders. It is the hub and beating engine of Hezbollah's money laundering empire.
It is not exposed to the Government of Lebanon credit default (EBs or CDs), and doesn't pay taxes whatsoever. Yet, it is cash-strapped facing potential bankruptcy. AQAH has deposits accounts of around $500 million and a revolving loan balance of around $450 million
only 64% of which is guaranteed by "under-appraised" gold deposits (pawns) as of December 31, 2019. AQAH has a strained cash position of around $50 million. The association cash to deposit ratio stands at 10%, one of the worse in Lebanon.
AQAH is a real Ponzi scheme that has now exploded. It has succeeded in money laundering for years, but has failed as an association entrusted with its community's gold.

1/ You are looking for a mobile phone worth Rs.10,000 on Amazon and as you move ahead to place the order, you are offered an option to pay that amount spread across 6 months. 6 EMIs of Rs.1667. No interest charges or processing fees.

2/ The next thought you have is - ‘obviously there is some catch here’. Why would someone give me an option to pay over 6 months? That too without any fees/charges!?

The catch is - it is more to do with marketing and sales than finance.

3/ There are 3 entities involved in this transaction. The platform (Amazon), Mobile Brand (Samsung), and the finance company (Bajaj Finance).

4/ Imagine you are a student who just got an internship with a stipend of Rs.5000. Shelling out Rs.10000 may not be possible for you. But if you have to pay Rs.1667 a month for 6 months, you feel like you have got a deal! Samsung gets to sell more. Amazon gets more commission.

Court Consultants is controlled by Birmingham property developer Anthony McCourt. He is a longstanding financial backer of Jess Phillips. In 2017, Anthony McCourt also gave £3,000 to Phillips to help with the running of her local Labour party.


Councils try to oblige property developers to build some affordable housing in their new buildings in return for planning permission. But recent developments involving Antony McCourt failed to meet even these limited attempts by councils to increase the amount lower-cost housing.

McCourt runs his developments through his other company, Court Collaboration. Recent Court Collaboration schemes have also been criticised for not containing enough affordable housing. #LabourLeaks

At 6% rate, it will take 12 yrs

No. of years required to triple your money at a given rate, U just divide 114 by interest rate.

Was reading upon #Biases & learnt a lot. Thought of sharing a few pointers .
Simply put Bias is a disproportionate weight in favour of or against any idea/thing in all aspects of life.
Few types of Biases ( out of the many) with not so random images. :)

The #DunningKruger effect now is fairly well known , wherein people with limited knowledge overestimate their competence, whilst the actually knowledgeable question themselves often .
"Ignorance more frequently begets confidence than does knowledge".

Post Independence, Army wanted to select the most experienced Indian commander as Army chief. But Nehru without consulting anyone appointed Gen Rob Lockhart, a senior British Army officer as the Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) of the Indian Army.


Most people were shocked to know that Nehru selected a British Man after fighting for independence for over 200 years! Major Gen A A ‘Jick’ Rudra of the Indian Army was completely upset with the decision.


One day Lockhart met Nehru with a strategic plan and proposed many government directive defence policies for the country. He placed it on the table and explained the point to PM Nehru. After a while Lockhart walked out of the room and met AA Jick Rudra,+

Lockhart looked shell shocked and stunned. When asked what happened he said “The PM took one look at my paper and blew his top. Rubbish! Total rubbish! We don’t need a defence plan. Our policy is ahimsa (non-violence). We foresee no military threats. Scrap the army!”

1/ Recently, I learned about the concept of ‘struggle porn’. This refers to the fetish of sacrificing nearly everything (health, relationships, time) for your startup. I fear that this label is creating more harm than good.

3/ @alexisohanian also recently spoke about struggle porn, though referring to it as ‘hustle porn.’ (as the co-founder of @hustlefundvc, obviously I take issue with this pejorative definition of ‘hustle’, but that’s another topic)

4/ Struggling in itself isn’t necessarily bad. Let’s be real here--if you’re going to start a startup, you will struggle. Founders should expect to work harder generally than employees. You will be challenged in many ways and also be super rewarded in others. This is normal.

5/ However, if you are over-indexing on hard work without clear purpose and degrading your mental health/relationships in the process--then this is very bad and we obviously should not celebrate this behavior.

Dodda in Kannada means big. Sri Ganesha here is 18 ft tall in height and 16 ft wide. Dodda Ganesha is also known as Shakthi Ganapathi and Satya Ganapathi.

It is said that Kempe Gowda, the founder of Bengaluru, saw a rock here.


The rock had engravings of Ganesha. His sculptors cut the Ganesha murti from that single rock. Later, a shrine was built around the Ganesh murti.

It is believed that Dodda Ganapathi is the protector of Bengaluru. All auspicious events start by praying to Him.


Benne Alankara is the most famous festival here when about 100 kg of butter is coated over Ganapathi every four years and the rich prasad is offered to the worshippers.

Ganesha is also covered in cream colour and is decorated with golden laces and buttons

The weavers from old Bengaluru tie a coconut to their looms before starting work. When the work is completed, they break 100 coconuts here along with the one tied on the loom.
