I want to start a thread of 90s rap records that aren't often discussed here.

I'll focus on singles that were dope/ringing off at the time because rap discussions on Twitter tend to focus on the same 15-20 "big ticket" classic albums, and this way, we can flesh things out a bit:

I get asked a lot how to help the people I write about. My first response is pretty simple, treat them like anybody else, not someone who is broken, or fallen, or a victim, or whatever.

Give them the dignity to be your equal, as measured by things other than $, status, etc. 1/

Yet clearly by $ they are not equal. So how to help them that way? I believe in charity being as local & personal as possible. I buy people McDonald's meals, let them use my phone, or computer, help them navigate social services. Etc.

Or just sit & talk if they want to talk 2/

So I keep a wad of $10 & $5 bills in my pocket to hand out, if asked, or offer. I also carry McDonald's gift cards, if you worry about $s going to drugs

For those who worry about being scammed. Well, if begging for cash is their scam, they are probably still pretty desperate. 3/

If you want to help more local is IMO the best. Volunteer at local non-profit or church, & over time you will see how you can "help" the most. Like maybe buying the soup kitchen a new fridge, or a kid a bike, or whatever. The more personal the better. For a lot of reasons 4/

1/ Merry Christmas everyone! I'm a very odd and eccentric person, so after some Yuletide joy and wine drinking, my thoughts turn to what archaeologists of the future might make of my remains if I were to die in a sudden disaster, like the Vesuvius eruption.

2/ I'm not an archaeologist - just someone who takes a keen amateur interest in these things)
After, let's say, a thousand years, and without very particular conditions of preservation that are unlikely in this climate, it's likely that all skin, gristle and textiles would have

3/ rotted into nothingness.
So, what's left?
My bones.
Presuming they're in a decent state of preservation, archaeologists would be able to tell from my brow ridges and gracile bones that I was probably a natal woman.
The eruption of my wisdom teeth and the condition of my

4/ pelvis would indicate I was 30-50 years old at time of death and had had at least one child.
Analysis of bones would indicate I had a land based diet, lived in N. Europe and was well-nourished. Lack of joint wear and tear shows I had undertaken no strenuous physical labour.

5/ What else would be left of me... most likely the sparkly beads on my clothes - both on the collar of my dress and my cardigan. They're made of gum/plastic - made to imitate gems, but very cheap. In the far future, finds like this would be plentiful. Archaeologists would likely

A hard year lies ahead beyond this week of muted celebrations. The country has, thankfully, just about steered clear of a no-deal Brexit, but that doesn't ease all of the concerns many of us have.

The long-dangling axe of austerity still hangs over many lives, with poverty rife despite the best efforts of famous footballers, and the pandemic remains a deeply unpredictable thing.

For the year ahead I think there are certain priorities. First, to strive to try to build greater trust in our communities.

Second, we need to carry that trust forward into building a movement - and movements - for change.

While I know traditionally people speak of building a movement, of building a singular monolithic greatness to sweep all before it and carry the day for all, I do mean both.

Demeter, Goddess of Grain, as Hera, Goddess of Marriage and Persephone, the Kore and Queen of the Underworld, is a vulnerable goddess. These 3 goddesses personify archetypes that represent the traditional roles of women : mother, wife and daughter.

The vulnerable goddesses are the relationship-oriented goddesses, whose identity and well-being depend on having a significant relationship. They express the needs in women for affiliation.

In Greek mythos, Demeter, Goddess of Grain, presided over bountiful harvests. She was portrayed as a beautiful woman with golden hair and dressed in a blue robe. Part of her name, "meter", seems to mean mother: she was worshipped as a mother of grain and of the maiden Persephone.

She represents maternal instinct fulfilled through pregnancy or providing physical, psychological or spiritual nourishment to others. This goddess was provider of food (Grain) and spiritual sustenance (through the Eleusinian Mysteries).

5/ Team pitched me on infrared devices. We weren’t convinced on accuracy but bet on team: Andrew, Garrett, Rob, Brian & others who I figured would iterate on solution. Plus, I had huge trust in seed investors @jtriest @Jason who voiced for them & @AvidanRoss who didn’t but liked

A few thoughts in advance of seeing the Brexit deal, assuming it's not scuppered at the last.

1. It will save industries, in the short term. For all the problems it *won't* solve, there is at least that. Tariffs would have finished off some sectors like switching off a light.

2. Expect a lot of confusion (through ignorance, and deliberate obfuscation by certain segments of the media) between free trade and frictionless trade. Trade that is free can still come with plenty of friction. Those extra £billions in customs paperwork won't go away.

3. There may be a standstill or implementation period. If there is, that will be helpful because it will let us get further down the road of vaccinating against the coronavirus, and resolving one crisis before plunging into the rest.

4. Any standstill will trigger a huge wave of "you told us scary things would happen, but they didn't." If you're counting along, it will be the 3rd such wave. First was during the negotiations while we were still EU members. Second during transition when EU rules still applied.

5. Those are just words. But the damage to the economy is real. So a standstill remains preferable, though teeth may have to remain gritted a while longer as a result.

6. Expect a few positive surprises. (Not compared to EU membership, but to what would otherwise have been.)
