"Closing the beaches doesn't cost anyone money" - this claim is entirely incorrect. I will now explain why: a thread.

Our economy is compiled from numerous industries that have countless forward and backward linkages with each other. If one is damaged, all are damaged. 1/6

The beach isn't just a piece of sand between sea and land: it is a productive input, a venue, and a reason of existence for numerous businesses. From hotels, to guest houses, to restaurants, to adventure and sport companies, to touring companies: all rely on open beaches. 2/6

Empty hotels, restaurants, and other tourism-related companies that have all lost business because of closed beaches mean no income for them. They cannot pay suppliers, and other industries that rely on them also don't make money: airlines, tour companies, car rentals etc. 3/6

This means owners and employees on paycuts and layoffs who cannot pay their own bills, causing a further knock-on effect in other industries not directly connected with tourism or hospitality at all. Suppliers and clients are equally out of pocket. 4/6

The economy is a vibrant, complex creature: you cannot shut individual organs down and expect it to function. In fact, there are significant and severe consequences for this type of governmental meddling in a fragile and complicated ecosystem. 5/6

This vascillation effort will generally tend to include a sense of "Loss" as the mind inevitably retreats from maximal expanded state. Over time, this two comes to be seen as "Pulsations of Conscious State". A type of simultaneously "Coming and Going".

Soon, as this sense of "Coming and Going" simultaneously begins to normalize, an awareness of the "Myth of Infinity" presents itself replaced by "Locality" and "Proximity".

Termed "The 120 Arc" this stage arguably presents some of the most difficult "Paradigm Shifts" as desires to constrain and understand propogate recursively forming #Nearfield constructs of constraint.

1/ Short Selling 101

With the markets continuing to rally, there has been more talk of “shorting” or “short selling” stocks.

But what does that mean and how does it work?

Here’s a quick educational primer: Short Selling 101

2/ When you believe a stock is going to rise in value, you are said to be “long” the stock (“bullish”). When you believe a stock is going to decline in value, you are said to be “short” the stock (“bearish”).

Short selling is simply how you bet on the decline in value.

3/ Imagine you read that Colombia is experiencing a very wet Summer.

You believe this will lead to a huge coffee harvest, flooding the market with coffee and driving down the price. You want to profit from this.

So you borrow a bag of coffee from Jimmy, your neighbor.

4/ You sell the bag of coffee to Paul, your other neighbor, for $20, the price of the bag at your market.

You now have $20 but you owe Jimmy a bag of coffee (you borrowed it, after all).

One month later, the price of coffee drops 50%. You buy a bag at the local store for $10.

5/ You walk over to Jimmy’s house, hand him the new bag of coffee, and give him $1 as interest on the borrowed bag.

So you sold a borrowed bag for $20 and then bought it back and returned it for $11 ($10 plus $1 interest).

You’ve made $9 profit on your coffee “short” position!

So many folks (esp. the media) are missing the complete backstory on $GME and how we got here.

This has been simmering for over a year and the story behind it is great. I’ve been tracking this since September and devoured all of the details from the origin through today.

So back in September 2019 (!) some guy named DeepFuckingValue posted this on r/wallstreetbets:

It was just a post about his LEAPS (aka,

At the time, nobody understood his position at all. The top comment on that post?

"Bid-ask spread on these are ridiculous, good luck getting rid of them" lol.

For the next year, every month about once a month, he posted his "YOLO GME" position. Every month for a year he got made fun of.

I caught wind of this trade back in September 2020, a FULL YEAR after this guy was already holding. I also thought it was weird—the dying retailer?

So I dug into the public quarterly reports of GameStop. Every quarter, public companies are required to release what's called a "10-Q" which is a quarterly report of their financials. You can find them here:

1/ 📊 I looked at data provided by @GrowjoUS in order to determine which companies grew the fastest in 2020 and their predictions of the world’s fastest growing companies for 2021. @GrowjoUS used different growth indicators to compile the list.

Then I layered on my own assessment of their respective business models. Here are are the main takeaways.

I've been getting this question pretty frequently lately, and thought it was a good time to put together a thread to cover all the basics.

And here it is!

Instead of just throwing a few links at you, I first want to cover something much more fundamental: The *reason* you want to learn to code.

I've had to train a good number of developers in my time. The ones that succeeded had rock-solid, persistent motivations. Is that you?

Some good motivations for learning how to code:

* Enabling a career change
* Insatiable curiosity, eagerness to learn
* Frustration with inefficiency + desire to improve things
* Larger goals in mind, coding being a stepping stone

Some bad motivations for learning how to code:

* It seems popular
* Your friends/family have ideas for apps
* You want to make lots of money by sitting in front of a computer
* You bought an expensive MacBook and are struggling to justify the expense

For those, trade forex.

Motivation matters, because of the one thing that's universally true about coding: It's hard.

Depending on what you do, you may have to learn several languages at once. Tools constantly update. New approaches land in the market on an annual basis. You're constantly upskilling.
