The baby wakes me up at 5am these days, so let’s talk about $RH. I’ve been following $RH for half a decade now, and I started off with a profound misunderstanding of the company. When $RH started its membership program back in 2016, I thought it was a stupid idea and 1/

 a half-assed way to graft a Costco membership dynamic onto what was supposed to be a high-end furniture store. Very confusing. Of course, I was the one who was stupid because my girlfriend at the time (now wife) was an interior designer, and I didn’t bother to ask her about /2
it. $RH employs a bunch of interior designers to help you with your design needs, and you get access to them for the $100 membership fee + you get 25% off all full-priced items. What’s going on here? $100 to save hundreds of dollars + you get interior design services? You 3/
might think it’s $100 fee to have the interior designer upsell or sell more products, and it… sort of is? But what I didn’t know and hadn’t bothered to ask my gf/wife was how interior designers worked. It turns out that if you’re a licensed interior designer, you get 20-25% 4/
off high-end furniture for your clients anyway. And once she told me this everything clicked. The $100 rate was a way to aggregate clients for their internal RH interior design folks, and these interior designers were going to get a 25% discount on their purchases anyway, so 5/
this was a very low cost way for $RH to pull you into a membership program, guarantee a certain amount of clients for their internal sales/interior design team, etc. Duh. Okay, so now I realize that when a smart company does something that looks stupid to me, maybe I 6/
should stare at it a little harder. So when $RH decided to start a restaurant and install coffee bars, I tamped down on my instinct to scream “DON’T YOU KNOW RESTAURANTS ARE LOW MARGIN?!?” and asked myself, okay, why might this work? $RH places their coffee bars & restaurants 7/
the way $AAPL locates its Genius Bars — in a manner that forces you to walk through the store. The RH Chicago Flagship has the restaurant in the middle courtyard. The RH NY in Meatpacking has the restaurant on the top of the building (which usually lies fallow) and the coffee 8/

…and here’s NY on opening day. You might want to ask yourself a Peter Lynch question here — have you ever seen this long a line for a furniture store opening before? Actually, have you ever seen people queue in line for a furniture store, period? 10/
Okay, so $RH forces you to walk through a beautifully designed building in order to get lunch or coffee. So what? Well, $RH has basically downshifted its cash & carry business (<1% of the revenues) so how does $RH keep top of mind? Recall that for most people, furniture is a 11/
once every 10 year purchase, but I suppose if you’re a $RH customer, you might be re-updating your space every 4-5 years? That’s a long time between visits, and when you’re in the purchasing frame of mind, you’re probably just going to go with the availability bias of what 12/
furniture stores you can recall at that particular moment. If you’re coming into the store on a monthly or bi-monthly basis for dinner or daily for coffee, that’s good for $RH! Moreover, $RH is using normally “fallow” space for their F&B business, which is how they also 13/
approach their outdoor business. Focus briefly on that last paragraph for a second and let me take a tangent that will tie it to a thing I forgot about $W. “Well, why can’t other people do that? Well, other people don’t build galleries as big as we do.” That should trigger a 14/
bell in your head, because that’s what Munger has said about Nebraska Furniture Mart. Why does sizing matter? Because people don’t go to four furniture stores because they like it. (Okay, maybe my wife does, but that’s because she used to be in the field.) They go to four 15/
furniture stores because they HAVE TO. They didn’t find what they needed in the first three stores. So if selection is one of the main criteria that consumers use, you can either (1) go BIG (NFM, RH) or (2) go online (AMZN, W) where there are no constraints to section. 16/

Back to the main storyline, so $RH can eke out much better economics on the F&B business, the outdoor business, etc. because they’re not paying ground rent! How brilliant is that? They’re literally sitting around looking at their RE and saying, huh, why isn’t there something 18/
we're doing in this part of the store? And, of course, if you look at what’s happened with RH Meatpacking, they’ve basically anchored the area for other super high-end retailers, which is great because they’re opening RH Guesthouse in the old Pastis location down the block. 19/
Anyway, if you like business/furniture/retailing, and you’re not reading Gary Friedman’s shareholder letters and listening to his conference calls, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Gary says he’s climbing the luxury mountain, and he’s the first one in a long time that 20/
seems like he might make it. He has basically no competition between bespoke furniture and, like, Pottery Barn — and he’s using his brand to enter into everything from hotels to residences. (I still haven’t quite figured out how the last two help the business, but a few 21/

What is pyramiding?

In pyramiding we add on to a position when it is going in our direction. Its basically opposite of averaging down.

MOMENTUM - Success of a pyramiding trade depend on this ingredient, the more the momentum the better pyramiding.


There are many way to enter and exit in a stock-

1. ALL IN - ALL OUT
2. ALL IN - SCALE OUT
3. SCALE IN - SCALE OUT
4. SCALE IN - ALL OUT ( I use this one)

Why traders use Pyramiding ?

More than anything what pyramiding do is keep your losers small and your winners - Big.

Pyramiding in my view keeps your dd smaller as your losers are very small because you enters with only a fraction of what you would have entered Normally.

BUT, not necessarily it should be more profitable than ALL IN- ALL OUT, Where one enters all at once and sell all at once.

HOW TO DO PYRAMIDING-

There are various methods which are used by traders for pyramiding ,while keeping the basic concept of adding onto the strength.

1. PYRAMIDING AND TRAILING BASED UPON STRUCTURE-

What casino owners ,professional traders know is that probable outcomes can also produce consistent results if you " Have an edge" and trade on a large enough sample size.

The best traders treat trading like a numbers game.

1. To illustrate, let's look at the game of blackjack-


In blackjack, the casinos have approximately a 4.5-percent edge over the player.

This means that casinos will make profit over a large enough sample size, even after several winning streaks and big profits of many players.

At the end of the day, week, month, or year, the casino always ends up with approximately 4.5 percent of the total amount wagered.

That 4.5 percent might not sound like a lot, but let's put it in perspective.

Suppose a total of $100 million dollars is wagered collectively at all of a casino's blackjack tables over the course of a year. The casino will net $4.5 million.

So it's now October 10, 2018 and....Rod Rosenstein is STILL not fired.

At this point it's clear some members of Congress are either in on this and helping the cover story or they haven't got a clue and are out in the cold.

First, rumors surfaced of a scheduled meeting on Oct. 11 between Rosenstein & members of Congress, and Rosenstein just cancelled it.

1/ Someone emailed me asking how to break into VC, so I wanted to answer on Twitter where others could see and contribute to the conversation.

2/ “Being a VC” can mean a lot of different things, so it’s worth asking:

What actual activities do you want to do?

- Deep market analysis?
- Be in the flow of information and people?
- Make deals?
- Work closely w/ founders over time (e.g take board seats?)
- Manage capital?

3/ It’s worth specifying what type of VC you might like to become — as there are different archetypes. E.g.

- Benchmark (Lead series A/B - couple investments a year)
- First Round (Lead seed rounds, partner w/ a few companies a year)
- SV Angel (Make lots of seed investments)

4/ Continued:

Expa - Incubate companies

YC / Village Global - Build a platform to help entrepreneurs at scale

Do you want to join a firm or start one? There’s a lot to consider.

Different paths will require different skillsets & sets of experiences.

'Entering the trade'

Entering a trade without ascertaining a certain things is gambling.

In this masterclass we will learn the pre-requisites to enter a trade.

We understand what reward to risk (popularly called risk to reward) is.
It will be denoted by R:R.

We will also try to bust a few myths about R:R and how to avoid losing trades.

Before entering a trade, you need to determine 3 things.

1. Entry trigger
2. Stop loss
3. Target

1. Entry trigger = Reasons for entering a trade. There could be multiple reasons or a single reason for entry.

Generally a set of reasons AKA confluence is a higher probability trade and a generally a safer entry.

Example of an entry trigger.


2. Stop Loss.

The price in the opposite direction of the trade where the trade is exited, at a loss.

At this level, the reason for the entry becomes invalidated according to TA and the price can then move in the opposite direction, probabilistically.


3. Target is the possible price level that the asset might touch based on previous trends or confluence AND where a possible reversal could occur.

Target is the next path of least resistance from where the price might reverse.

We will always ONLY use TA to determine all 3.

The beginning of what was to come later for the M0ghuls from one of the most indefatigable defenders of Dharma!

Shivaji’s growing influence in Maval region, made him a threat to the Adil Shahi ruler of Bijapur who sought to restrain him. The man who was given the responsibility of this mission, was their commander, Afzal Khan. Afzal was a formidable warrior known for his ruthlessness.(1)

His strategy was to bring Shivaji out into the plains, where he held an advantage, compared to the rocky Deccan terrain. Afzal attacked the holy town of Pandharpur, and later demolished the temple of Bhavani at Tuljapur to instigate Shivaji in a bid to bring him out.(2)

Shivaji was angry but remained patient. Knowing that he could not defeat Bijapuri Sultanate in an open battle, Shivaji moved to Pratapgarh fort, located on rocky heights, surrounded by thick forests of Jawali.(3)

This set the pattern for future Maratha attacks, using guerrilla warfare against larger invading armies rendering them ineffective in unfavorable terrain.(4)

So it turns out that Google Chrome was making everything on my computer slow *even when it wasn’t running*, because it installs something called Keystone which is basically malware.

I made a website because this shouldn’t

Wired first reported on how bad Keystone was 11 years ago when they put it into Google Earth (they seem to put it in all their popular

The fact that Keystone hides itself in Activity Monitor is bizarre. (The only sign of it was excessive CPU usage of WindowServer which is a system process).

I don’t know if Google was doing something nefarious with Keystone, or a third party figured out how to (which Wired warned about). But either way, I’m not inclined to give Google-the-organization the benefit of the doubt (despite the many good people who work on Chrome)...

...since it's been a decade+ and this still hasn't been "fixed".

There is no reason for auto-update software to need to do what Chrome/Keystone was doing. It also has a long history of crashing Macs.
