If you want to lead, you must become intolerant.

Know that the degree of your tolerance is disproportional to the quality of your leadership.

The more tolerant you are, the lower the quality.

Because its not easy to uphold strong qualities & values.

Tolerance leads to erosion of your high standards.

Your responsibility as a leader is to create a culture where, whether its your followers, employees, family,

can grow and become exceptional in what you're directing them towards.

You need to protect this culture & cultivate it.

The protection of this culture will depend on

-your conviction to your leadership objective

-the values you need to uphold to attain this objective

-rejecting values that directly conflict with the attainment of your objective

Every time you compromise your leadership by accomodating lesser values through tolerance,

you not only weaken your own conviction, but you disrespect those who follow you,

who rely on your resilience to maintain the coherence & integrity of the culture you seek to build.

Let's talk about "social justice."

The phrase, that is.

Social justice has always been one of our party's core commitments. Occasionally, however, we hear from people who like our platform but get squirrely about the term.

Anyway, some people tend to associate social justice with "cancel culture" or with policy positions like abortion-on-demand that we oppose.

(Abortion is a social justice issue, by the way, just not the way its proponents think it is).

But while it's true that term sometime gets used in ways we don't support, we think the concept is far too important lose.

20-second history lesson: historically, some of the earliest writers to use the term "social justice" were working within the Catholic political tradition (one of the sources of Christian Democracy). Luigi Taparelli sometimes gets credit for coining it.

Society often assumes that good support will be available to childhood abuse survivors if they reach out for help & “talk to someone”. You assume this because you know it’s what we deserve, at the very basic level. But I’m here to tell you tonight that we do NOT get this support.

Most of us (especially women) just get a diagnosis of BPD/EUPD, which opens us up to stigma and abuse from the services who are supposed to help us. We are told constantly ON A LOOP that our behaviour needs to change and that we need to build resilience and “do better” at coping.

We are shamed into thinking that we’re not coping with the aftermath of abuse in the same way other survivors do, and that this is our own fault. We are silenced by the very people who Society assumes will help give us our voice back. We are abused and gaslighted all over again.

Hardly any of us get offered trauma therapy, and those who do are only offered time limited therapy. A therapy so short in time, that survivors often have to bend over backwards to “prove” that we are ready for it.

Voluntary services are often recommended to abuse survivors as suitable alternatives to NHS MH services, but pretty much all of them are closed to new referrals for therapy because their waiting lists are huge. There are even waiting lists to get on to the actual waiting list.

Finally watched The Bee Gees doc. I’ve always been a fan but I have new respect for their artistry.

I am *especially* glad that the doc explicitly called out the fact that the “death of disco” was pointedly homophobic and racist.

I do wish a bit more time had been spent on the fact that The Bee Gees, as hard as it was to survive the blowback, were able to do so both because of their musical & writing talent and because they were all white straight men. The latter doesn’t diminish their gifts.

But plenty of extremely talented Black and LGBTQ artists of color never survived the undermining of and blowback against (bad) disco.

Disco-and songs that are really R&B but got that commercial label-is rooted firmly in a Black tradition The Bee Gees always acknowledged.

And none of that can be separated from the attacks on it.

The scene of the Black former Comiskey Park usher is one I’ll think about for a long time. “It was a racist, homophobic book burning. That’s all it was.”

True tea, which the doc also brilliantly explored: a lot of the “disco” folks hated was actually trash bc straight white men got greedy and commercialized it beyond recognition and quality.

So a bunch of artists who were talented beyond a genre-including The Bee Gees-were harmed

I think I'm having one of the biggest aha moments I've had all year, which is that in many ways folks who belong to the "woke" left & those who belong to the "reactionary" right want the same things; & in this context, I mean it not as a critique, but an opportunity for hope.

If you ignore the toxic impulse some folks on the left have to label certain things as "whiteness," what they claim to want is to actually create the conditions that fight against alienation and isolation.

If you look at some of the documents floating around in DEI circles, they define "equitable cultures" as those that value "interdependence & collaboration," "seeing discomfort as growth," & "seventh generation thinking" which is a philosophy that comes from the Iroquois tribe.

If you boil down much of it (& again, view the weird "whiteness" piece as a bug & not a feature), what is actually being requested is a deviation from the factory-oriented/central planning styles of work and a more communal oriented way of work life.

1.JUDAISM & WEALTH: They believe every person must work hard to avoid poverty, they also believe in the principle of giving. They don’t believe in relying on charity to lift themselves up Or to become a burden to your community. Most grow up believing success as the only option.

3. THE VALUE OF MONEY: in many of our households discussing finances is still taboo. Many Jewish parents use the 5 jars techniq to teach their children; separating Tithe/Giving/Savings/Investing &Spending. As kids, they learn consequences early that most of us are learning now
