Since I have been highly critical of the manner in which those on the Right are trying to get those in GA to vote for the Republican senators, I feel it is only fair that I set out how I would go about it rather than simply sniping from the sidelines. So here we go.

Given the last few years, to say nothing of the last few decades, it is reasonable for those who lean more towards the conservative side of being a Republican to feel that promises are always made by the GOP but nearly never kept. This does not engender trust by the base.
Likewise, every election is the most important ever and if you do not vote Republican you are assisting in electing Democrats and it will be the end of life as we know it! At a certain point, weariness over such claims is natural. That is one of the lessons of Peter and the Wolf.
The other lesson of Peter and the Wolf, the one that is usually brushed away, is that the wolf always comes. Peter was sent to watch for the wolf for a reason. And right now, given the Democrats' public statements as to their goals, it is fair to say the wolf is at the door.
As of now, the Democrats control the House, where money is appropriated, and likely will hold the Presidency, which controls the administrative branch (to the extent it can be controlled and that is a different rant) and the judiciary. The Senate is the only firewall left.
As the past few years (and decades) have demonstrated, once legislation is passed or an executive order is issued, it is nearly impossible to repeal it, so long as it was passed or issued by a Democrat. It is the harsh truth that the best the Republicans can do is hold the line.
Hopefully, the Republicans will be able to take back Congress in 2022 and the Presidency in 2024. The goal at this time is to limit the amount of damage that the Democrats can do between now and then. Would it were not so, but it is. That is reality.
Since that is the case, it is imperative that the Republicans hold the Senate if only to slow the flood that is coming. Unlike the Republicans, the Democrats are able to whip their caucus and given unitary control, the Democrats will pass matters that will be impossible to repeal
It is true that votes are earned and not owed. Those who say that the Republicans have not earned their votes have legitimate concerns. Unfortunately, those concerns must be secondary, at this moment, to making sure there is some kind of brake on the Democrats' plans.
This is pure strategic voting and those who say that I am Peter and there is no wolf because we've heard this for decades have a fair point. However, I believe that this time the wolf is here and it is time to take care of the wolf. And then? Then it is time for Peter to learn.

More from Politics

We’ve been getting calls and outreach from Queens residents all day about this.

The community’s response? Outrage.

Amazon is a billion-dollar company. The idea that it will receive hundreds of millions of dollars in tax breaks at a time when our subway is crumbling and our communities need MORE investment, not less, is extremely concerning to residents here.

When we talk about bringing jobs to the community, we need to dig deep:
- Has the company promised to hire in the existing community?
- What’s the quality of jobs + how many are promised? Are these jobs low-wage or high wage? Are there benefits? Can people collectively bargain?

Displacement is not community development. Investing in luxury condos is not the same thing as investing in people and families.

Shuffling working class people out of a community does not improve their quality of life.

We need to focus on good healthcare, living wages, affordable rent. Corporations that offer none of those things should be met w/ skepticism.

It’s possible to establish economic partnerships w/ real opportunities for working families, instead of a race-to-the-bottom competition.

Recently, the @CNIL issued a decision regarding the GDPR compliance of an unknown French adtech company named "Vectaury". It may seem like small fry, but the decision has potential wide-ranging impacts for Google, the IAB framework, and today's adtech. It's thread time! 👇

It's all in French, but if you're up for it you can read:
• Their blog post (lacks the most interesting details):
https://t.co/PHkDcOT1hy
• Their high-level legal decision: https://t.co/hwpiEvjodt
• The full notification: https://t.co/QQB7rfynha

I've read it so you needn't!

Vectaury was collecting geolocation data in order to create profiles (eg. people who often go to this or that type of shop) so as to power ad targeting. They operate through embedded SDKs and ad bidding, making them invisible to users.

The @CNIL notes that profiling based off of geolocation presents particular risks since it reveals people's movements and habits. As risky, the processing requires consent — this will be the heart of their assessment.

Interesting point: they justify the decision in part because of how many people COULD be targeted in this way (rather than how many have — though they note that too). Because it's on a phone, and many have phones, it is considered large-scale processing no matter what.
