THREAD on Robinhood/Reddit/GME: CONGRESS is calling for action, but no one has clearly articulated what they actually want.

We could look back on this as the biggest “Pump & Dump” in history... with the little guys carrying all the water & then getting it dumped on their heads.

 It started with a SMART discovery, Melvin Capital (hedge fund) broke the cardinal rule of short selling. They took on way too big of a short position given the size of their fund, how heavily shorted the stock already was and the amount of shares outstanding.
Technically, they were RIPE to get squeezed, but there was virtually no case for anyone following fundamentals (earnings, growth etc...) to want to buy this sleepy, brick and mortar video game retailer.
Short selling is absolutely legal and adds to efficiency of the market.
More often than not, the short seller gets hurt & not the company. But there are many who believe it’s harmful to American businesses and short sellers to use media and unsavory practices to put struggling companies in further distress.
This week will definitely bring back the debate on banning short selling. This is a huge win for Elon Musk who has been battling & defeating short sellers for years and wants the practice irradicated.
He’s been unsuccessfully trying to get lawmakers to focus on this for a while.
A few VERY savvy and somewhat anonymous investors spotted this Melvin situation and masterminded a way to enlist this never-before seen “Wall St Betts-Reddit Army” and en masse went on a buying frenzy.
BUT HERE’S WHERE DAVID ABSOLUTELY DID NOT BEAT GOLIATH:
Melvin DID get crushed, but they’ve been completely out of the trade for 2 days, which means the Reddit Army’s
“STICKING IT TO THE MAN” crusade is currently sticking it to your fellow man & possibly getting yourself stuck.
At this point, GameStop is worth $23b and a lot of retail investors own stock in a company worth a tiny fraction of where its stock is currently trading. They could lose 90% because they didn’t understand how the market actually functions.
And other companies in this bonanza, American Airlines & AMC- they’ve already sold shares to raise money, which dilutes everyone and will continue to do so.
And AMC is held by Silver Lake Partners (a massive private equity firm). They already sold out of a massive chunk making hundreds of millions of dollars. That was gifted to them by the Reddit Army marching the stock higher.
There are still SOME shorts, but there are lots of players BIG and very small who own these stocks.
When the music stops and the stocks drop, there will be a lot of pain.
CEO’s of publicly traded companies are worried. Watching how a group can mobilize & go after a target in such force w/ such little underlying logic is very worrisome. Many are huddled up in virtual boardrooms today wondering “what happens when the mob decides they don’t like me?”
As for ROBINHOOD- NO GOOD NEWS to report:
ROBINHOOD proved this week that they are NOT what they promised.
The CEO was happy to announce they have the most popular app, but it’s worthless if it cannot execute trades.
Robinhood users learned The PRICE of “free trades” meant your broker was undercapitalized and couldn’t support the business when you needed it most.
How did that happen?
Robinhood’s model was offering  “free trades”
They drew in scores of individual investors & then sold that order flow to Citadel (which is both a broker/dealer AND a hedge fund - confusing).
But when volume was massive and volatile in a few names, they didn’t have the $$ to meet capital requirements needed when you can’t borrow shares (which is why it only impacted one side of the trade).
They raised $1bn from existing investors Thursday night, so they could fully operate on Friday- but their problems are far from over.

For the next 3.9 years I watched this country get suffocated by a president with no interest in the common good: dividing us all; inciting hate against anyone white, straight and able; totally disregarding science. Literally he assaulted every single one of my values. 3/6

And it really and deeply affected me. And I don't think I realised. But I believed that we could all work together to turn it around. That is why I got so involved with the election, as you've all seen on my timeline over the past few weeks, because everything was at stake. 4/6

Today, 7th November 2020, I now feel proud to be a US citizen, proud to have a president who will do his best to unite the people and heal us, allow us to move forward and make progress in solving many vital issues such as social & racial justice & climate change. 5/6

Andy Ngo thinks Antifa are on a level with the Nazis in terms of wanton violence. Furthermore, he says that 'even the Nazis knew to cover their tracks' and that we didn't know about the Holocaust until afterwards.

Wrong, and offensive on almost every level.


Violence had been building for years prior to the Nazis assuming power, and much of it was instigated by the SA.

In 1932 for example, 105 people died in clashes between SA and opposing groups in Prussia alone - that's one region.

SA activity - marching through 'red' neighbourhoods and fighting those who opposed them was a deliberate strategy. The spectacle of violence and the implied 'restoral of order' was the point.


Just think of how Horst Wessel was remembered following his death in 1930. He was turned into a martyr who fell 'bravely in battle' against the Bolsheviks. Violence was inherent to the message - a clash between forces for the future of Germany.


During his time as SA leader in Berlin, Goebbels worked on a strategy of provocation that almost always ended in violence, a form of trolling that would always provide the opportunity for a brawl and the implication that a menace had been dealt with.

उनकी उपस्थिति में ही सारा परिवार बहुत देर तक जी भर बातें करता ।फिर भरत को ध्यान आया कि भैया-भाभी को भी एकांत मिलना चाहिए ।उर्मिला को देख भी उनके मन में हूक उठती थी कि इस पतिव्रता को भी अपने पति का सानिध्य चाहिए ।

एक दिन भरत ने हनुमान जी से कहा,"हे पवनपुत्र! सीता भाभी को राम भैया के साथ एकांत में रहने का भी अधिकार प्राप्त है ।क्या आपको उनके माथे पर सिन्दूर नहीं दिखता?इसलिए संध्या पश्चात आप राम भैया को कृप्या अकेला छोड़ दिया करें "।
ये सुनकर हनुमान आश्चर्यचकित रह गए और सीता माता के पास गए ।


माता से हनुमान ने पूछा,"माता आप अपने माथे पर सिन्दूर क्यों लगाती हैं।" यह सुनकर सीता माता बोलीं,"स्त्री अपने माथे पर सिन्दूर लगाती है तो उसके पति की आयु में वृद्धि होती है और वह स्वस्थ रहते हैं "। फिर हनुमान जी प्रभु राम के पास गए ।

Some tweets on Adi Shankaracharya and in particular the Guru Parampara of @sringerimath. [I had done this series earlier 5 years ago on account of Shishya Sweekaram].


Adi Shankara established the Sringeri Peetham as the 1st of 4 amnaaya peetams.

The four being
1. Sarada Peetam at Sringeri.
2. Govardhana Peetam at Puri
3. Kalika at Dwaraka
4. Jyothir at Badarikashramam.

He installed his 4 most prominent shishyas as heads of the peetams.

Sureshwaracharya was assigned to Sringeri as its head.

Sringeri is a corruption of Rshyashrunga giri.

Rshyashrunga maharshi [and his father Sri Vibandhaka Maharshi] did their tapas at this place.

It is at Sringeri that Shankara spent 12 of His precious 32 years!!

That gives you and idea how much He loved this place.

Rshyashruga maharshi had a horn on his forehead, a result of being born to a deer. His mere presence was enough to shower rains!!

Rshyashrunga was one who led Putrakamesthi Yaagam of Dasaratha Maharaj and which resulted in Sri Rama's birth!!

The most essential rite (Sanskrit: rītī) of a Hindu marriage ceremony is Saptapadi (English: seven steps, saptapadī). Saptapadi is a Sanskrit term that means "seven steps." The wedded couple walks seven steps after tying the Mangalsutra, which is known as Saptapadi.


The couple legally becomes husband and wife after the seventh step.
Hindu wedding rituals: During Saath Phere, the bride and groom exchange their marital vows while circumambulating (walking around) the sacred fire seven times.


This is because the bride and groom exchange marriage vows and hope for a happy married life together.

1. The first marriage vow, out of seven, is a petition to the Lord for nutrition and nourishment for the Hindu bride and groom.
