What are the Categories of Tawhid?

Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Let the first thing to which you will invite them, be the Tawhid of Allah."
(Sahih al Bukhari 7372)

 #Tawheed is to single out Allah in his Actions, in His Attributes, and to single out Allah in our actions/worship towards Him (His Rights).

🔹1 - Tawheed ar Rububiyyah
(maintaining unity in Allah's actions, the divine Lordship of Allah)
He alone is the Creator & Sustainer, and controller of the universe (etc).. and not attributing any of this to anyone else

🔹2 - Tawheed al Ibaadah(Uluhiyyah)
(maintaining the unity of worship)
This means to single out Allah as the focus of all worship (‘ibaadah).
Allah alone has the right to be supplicated to & prayed to, and sacrificed for and worshiped... directly, and without any intermediaries.
A person can believe in Allah(One God) and still be committing #SHIRK (polytheist)
Allah says.. 👉 “And if you were to ask them: ‘Who has created the heavens and the earth and subjected the sun and the moon?’ they will surely reply: ‘Allah.’ How then are they deviating (as polytheists and disbelievers)?” - [Quran 29:61]
🌹 In this verse Allaah states that such people accept that He is the Creator, Sovereign and Controller(Tawheed ar rububiyyah), but despite that they supplicate to others (intercessors/saints/idols/prophets) for help i.e. they do not make dua/worship Him alone (they deny Tawheed+
+of worship/ibaadah).

So they believe that Allah is the only true God, but they are still committing #shirk by seeking help & making dua to prophets/dead saints/idols by contradicting the Tawhid al uluhiyyah

"They worship others beside Allah that neither profits them nor benefits them. They say: "These are our #intercessors with Allah." Exalted is He above all that which they #associate as partners with Him!" -(#Quran 10:18)
which points to the graveness of their wrongdoing and lies, and the weakness of their reasoning.
Prophetﷺ said,
🌹 “Du‘aa’ is worship.” 🌹
(Then he recited the verse) 👇
“And your #Lord says, ‘Call upon Me; I will respond to you.’ Indeed, those who #disdain My worship (by calling upon anyone else) will enter Hell in humiliation.” [40:60]

"None has the right to be worshipped but He, so call upon (invoke) Him (Alone) making your worship pure for Him Alone." (#Ghafir 40:65)

If you ask them: "Who created the heavens and the earth?" Surely, they will say: "Allah".

Say(O Muhammad), "I only #invoke(call upon) my Lord(Allah Alone), and I do not make any partners with Him" [#Quran 72:20)

▪️ Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah(ibaadah) means devoting all acts of worship, both inward and outward, in word and deed, to Allah Alone
and such that a person does not take anything or anyone else besides Allah as an object of worship nor do acts of devotion as he does for Allah.
Neither prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, total obedience, complete trust, absolute love or hope is to be given to other than Allah because He alone is the true deity (ilaah).

🔹3 - Tawheed al-Asma’ wa’l-Sifaat
(Oneness of the Divine Names and Attributes)
this means affirming the names and attributes of Allah and believing that there is none like unto Allah in His names and attributes.
🌹 For example: 👇
Allah alone is "ALL-HEARING",
So believing that someone else can hear everything or hear everyone at the same time or someone has the ability to hear without being physically present is making equal/likeness(#shirk) with Allah by assigning an exclusive divine attribute of Allah to another being.
This Tawhid is based on two principles:
1 – Affirmation: i.e., affirming that which Allaah has affirmed for Himself in His Book or that His Prophet (ﷺ) has affirmed of His beautiful names and sublime attributes in a manner that suits the Majesty and Greatness of Allaah, without distorting them, twisting their...
…meanings, denying their reality or discussing how they are.

2 – Denial: i.e., denying that Allah has any faults and denying any shortcomings that He has denied Himself. The evidence for that is the words of Allah(interpretation of the meaning):
“There is nothing like Him, and He is the All‑Hearer, the All‑Seer” -[Quran 42:11]

So Allah has denied that He bears any resemblance to His creation, and affirmed that He has attributes of perfection in a manner that befits Him, may He be glorified.

I've received my share of calls from young Muslim couples and know some common themes. If you're being offered any of these, say no and end it.

1) Secret Nikahs: Not only is this against the command of the Prophet (peace be on him), they never work. I've seen horror stories!


2) Polygamy: In principle I have nothing against it. But our current political and social climate makes it almost impossible to practice it justly. In most Canadian cases, I wouldn't recommend it. Once again, horror stories!

3) Marrying non-Muslims: Islam allows men to marry Christian and Jewish women. However, I really would advise against this now.

These commands are for when the man is the leader of the house and can ensure that the children will remain Muslim. Do not risk your children's Iman!

Additionally, marriage about so much more than love. After being married, I see that it needs many social scaffolding and structure to prosper.

I really see many couples in such marriages ending up resenting their partner.

I would not recommend this 95% of the time!

4) Delaying the talking process: Let me know if this sounds familiar: "He's perfect. But he isn't ready for marriage yet! 2 years, In Sha Allah!"

Not only is your boyfriend/girlfriend haraam (cause that's what they are), why invest your heart when the person isn't ready?

This is not an assertion of superiority but a genealogical frame merely tracing descent.
Nor is it comparable to Caste as institutionalised and practised by Vedic Brahminism.

NB: The Prophet (S.A.W.) in fact first took up arms against his own tribe, the Quraish.


The Quran is clear:
“He has ordained for you of religion what He enjoined upon Noah and that which We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what We enjoined upon Abraham and Moses and Jesus - to establish the religion and not be divided therein...”

Surah Ash-Shūrá Quran 42:13

The fact is, the Quran and The Prophet (S.A.W) lay great stress on the characteristics of superiority being righteousness and piety.
Tribal (again, not comparable to the caste system) membership did not denote superiority in religion.
This is a basic difference from Casteism.

Music has been so normalized that “scholars” have even misguided people on it. May Allah forgive us and guide us, aameen.

This will be a long but informative thread on this topic, in shaa’ Allah

Ibn Masud (rAa) said about this ayah: “It is singing, by the one and only God” he repeated it 3x (Tafsir Tabari 11/61)

Ibn Abbas says the same thing (recorded in Adab Al Mufrad), so do Jabir Ibn Abdillah and Ibn Umar. As well as Ibn Abbas’ father (radhiAllahu ‘anhum)


The scholars of tafsir regarding the voice (of Iblis):

Mujahid: It is singing, flutes, distraction, falsehood (Tafsir Tabari 15/81)

Hasan Al-Basri: It’s the duff and the flute (Tafsir Samani 3/258)


Ibn Abbas said: It is singing. Upon hearing the Quran, they (the mushrikeen of makkah) used to sing and play. (Tafsir Tabari 13/82)

Mujahid also says the same thing in Talbis Iblis by Ibn Jawzi (p. 231)

I just finished Eric Adler's The Battle of the Classics, and wanted to say something about Joel Christiansen's review linked below. I am not sure what motivates the review (I speculate a bit below), but it gives a very misleading impression of the book. 1/x


The meat of the criticism is that the history Adler gives is insufficiently critical. Adler describes a few figures who had a great influence on how the modern US university was formed. It's certainly critical: it focuses on the social Darwinism of these figures. 2/x

Other insinuations and suggestions in the review seem wildly off the mark, distorted, or inappropriate-- for example, that the book is clickbaity (it is scholarly) or conservative (hardly) or connected to the events at the Capitol (give me a break). 3/x

The core question: in what sense is classics inherently racist? Classics is old. On Adler's account, it begins in ancient Rome and is revived in the Renaissance. Slavery (Christiansen's primary concern) is also very old. Let's say classics is an education for slaveowners. 4/x

It's worth remembering that literacy itself is elite throughout most of this history. Literacy is, then, also the education of slaveowners. We can honor oral and musical traditions without denying that literacy is, generally, good. 5/x
