History is full of Kings and warriors, their victories and innumerable tales of their heroics. But it hasn't been kind enough to showcase the hardships a mother had to face. Therefore, this is an attempt to throw some light on the life of one such Queen mother.+

 Princess of a family in which Mahārājādhirāja Kārtvīrya Arjuna was born; the Queen of one of the most powerful dynasties to rule this part of the planet; mother of the crest jewel of Kshatriyas and one of the greatest warrior kings to ever rule, Maharani Karpura-Devi.+
Born a Kalachuri princess, Queen Karpuradevi was married to Someshvara Chauhan, son of Mahārājādhirāja Arnoraja Chauhan of Imperial Chauhan Rajput dynasty of Sakambhari, and Kanchandevi, the daughter of Solanki king, Siddhraja Jayasimha of Gujarat.+
Someshvara spent his early days in Gujarat under his maternal grandfather's watch. After king's death, his nephew Kumarpala Solanki took care of young Someshvara who grew up to be a fierce warrior. He was married to the daughter of Achalraj, Kalachuri king of Tripuri.+
Days passed, Maharaja Someshvara and Rani Karpuradevi were blessed with a child, a child who was destined to immortalise his name in the history of Bharatavarsha. Soon after the first child, they were blessed with another child, while Maharaj Arnoraja Chauhan was still alive.+
Maharaj Someshvara and Rani Karpuradevi continued to stay in Solanki Kingdom. Meanwhile, there was a massive turnaround in Ajmer. Death of Maharaj Arnoraja created an instability in the kingdom. Even the accession of Maharaj Visaldev (Vigrharaj IV) wasn't enough.+
Maharaj Visaldev was pleased to know about the birth of his two nephews. But he passed away soon, creating a void which couldn't be filled by his descendants. Nobles in Chauhan court decided to bring Maharaj Someshvara from Gujarat to Sapadlaksha country.+
It was the first time Rani Karpuradevi was entering the Chauhan kingdom. She was warmly welcomed by Chauhan people. Same as the Goddess Lakshmi, she brought good fortune,and prosperity to the kingdom after a long period of political turmoil and disorder.+
The reign of Maharaj Someshvara was a glorious one, but it didn't last long. He passed away while his eldest son was still a minor. Rani Karpuradevi was now supposed to protect her childrens and the kingdom, amidst the threat of treason and Malechcha invasion.+
She was given a very difficult task, but she had the ability to discharge all her duties as a Maharani of Chauhan kingdom and a mother of 2 minors. She was well assisted by Chauhan nobles. Her uncle Bhuvanaikmalla of Haihaya Kalachuri Rajput dynasty also came to Ajmer.+
He was there to see how the sons of his brother's daughter were being raised, and saved both from many troubles.

Due to Rani Karpuradevi's able administration, the vast Chauhan kingdom continued to flourish with undiminished glory.+
In Rani Karpuradevi's reign, dharma flourished in the country, there was no oppression of the subjects. People lived happily, and had great reverence for their queen. None of the neighbouring countries or foreign invaders dared to invade Chauhan territory.+
Rani withstood all the difficulties firmly and brought up her sons properly. She possessed all the qualities of a Kshatrani, a great example of Rajput womanhood. She continued to rule until his eldest son was ready to sit on the throne of his ancestors.+
Not many people know or have heard about Rani Karpuradevi, not many historians have given her any place in their works. But the son she raised needs no introduction, an unparalleled warrior and the pride of Chauhan clan of Rajputs, Samrāṭa Prithvirāja Chauhāna.

On this day in 1945 Soviet forces liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau. It was the largest concentration and death camp. 1.1 million people, 90% of them Jews, were murdered there. Today it is an international day of commemoration, to honor the memory of all victims of Nazi extermination.


A few things to keep in mind on International Holocaust Remembrance Day:

1) The Soviet liberation of Auschwitz is a deeply symbolic event, but it is worth noting that allied forces were liberating Nazi camps until May of 1945. Unspeakable suffering and death continued for months

I bring this up because the popular perception of events is informed by primary school practices which present them with clean start and stop dates. Useful for repeating dates, but less useful for having an understanding of what forces you unleash and what it takes to unwind them

When we talk about the lessons of the Holocaust, too many fall into the trap of "if it's not identical to Auschwitz, it's not worth invoking the Holocaust."

The seeds for the Holocaust were laid long before Auschwitz was opened, and the Holocaust continued after its liberation.

2) Every year on this date you can reliably expect a debate on what it is we are commemorating. A small but loud group of people use this date as an opportunity to play suffering olympics. Resist the urge to engage with these fools.

Today is the 130th anniversary of the #WoundedKneeMassacre. On December 29, 1890, the 7th Cavalry surrounded a peaceful encampment of Lakota with Hotchkiss guns and slaughtered ~300. They were mostly women and children.


Those killed at Wounded Knee were led by Mniconjou Chief Spotted Elk, who was ill. Many were followers of Hunkpapa Chief Sitting Bull who was assassinated 14 days prior. They were invited to seek refuge with Oglala Chief Red Cloud at Pine Ridge. They were hungry, tired & cold.

The soldiers weren’t satisfied with gunning down the encampment. They chased down those who escaped, including little children & their grandmothers, for miles. Some ran all the way back to the Cheyenne River Reservation, through the night in the freezing cold, with bullet wounds.

Charles Eastman, the 1st western educated Oceti Sakowin (Dakota Sioux) physician, was at Pine Ridge during the #WoundedKneeMassacre. It was right after Christmas. A banner hanging over the wounded said, ‘Peace on Earth.’ The horrors Dr. Eastman saw that day changed him forever.


Those massacred at Wounded Knee were callously thrown into a mass grave. Soldiers proudly posed for photos with their corpses. They were awarded Medals of Honor for their part in the slaughter. Those Medals have never been rescinded, despite public outcry.

A challenge with society in general is a facile understanding of the word “coup.” When the population at large thinks of a coup, they imagine a violent military (Chile, 1973) or paramilitary (Cuba, 1959) overthrow of the government.
Coups are often far more complex and nuanced.

So, let’s talk about the autogolpe—the “self coup” (a perfect example of how some words in Spanish are objectively better than their English equivalents). An autogolpe is, at its simplest, when a duly elected leader revolts against his *own* government to consolidate power.

He (it’s always been a “he”) usurps powers that traditionally reside with the legislative and judiciary bodies, and of course, maintains that power beyond his elected term.

This kind of coup requires a lot of prep work. Generally speaking, you can’t just up and announce your takeover overnight. Instead, you have to spend a few years undermining federal institutions so that, when the time comes, they are powerless and/or unwilling to stop you.

How? You start by installing loyalists in key positions and courting *personal* loyalty within your party.
“Oh, everybody does that!”
Not exactly. Key positions in a democracy, for example, require approval from the legislative body.
So you have to work around that.

On Feb 1935, Bose attacked the Nazis as he was angry as Indians were described as Sub-Humans in Mein Kampf. The British arrested Bose in April 1936, because he insulted the Nazis.

The West at this point had a soft spot for the Nazis. France, Great Britain, Netherlands, Poland all gave the Nazi Salute during the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

Even during the Spanish Civil War (1936 - 1939), the Western powers observed neutrality as the Fascists rose in Spain.


In 1937, Hitler told British Foreign Secretary Lord Halifax that one of his fav movies was ‘The Lives of a Bengal Lancer’. Why?

‘The Lives of a Bengal Lancer’ depicted a handful of "superior race" Brits holding sway over an entire Indian subcontinent (Sub-Humans).

This statement by Hitler in 1937 angered many pro-Leftist leaders of the INC including Bose.

Bose reached London in Jan 1938, and he met many leaders of the British Labour Party including Attlee.

1938 & 1939 were two huge years for the Indian National Congress. As i always say, the 10-year phase from 1938 - 1948 shaped modern India and it began in 1938 Haripura session.

Statue of Equality (Ramanuja) Muchintal, Hyderabad, Telangana

The Statue of Equality is a monument in India dedicated to the 11th-century Vaishnavaite Sage Bhagavad Ramanuja, commemorating 1000 years since his birth. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji in 2019.


In 2014, Sri Chinna Jeeyar came up with the idea to commemorate the 1000th anniversary of Sri Ramanuja's teachings by building the Statue of Equality. The statue is constructed on an estimated 34 acres in Hyderabad, India.


It consists of a 216 foot tall statue of Ramanuja and is surrounded by 108 Divyadesams (model temples) and includes an educational gallery. The project budget is 1000 crore rupees.The foundation stone for the Statue of Equality was laid by Chinna Jeeyar.


The statue was built by Aerosun Corporation in China before being shipped to India. It is made of panchaloha, a combination of gold, silver, copper, brass and titanium. The statue relies on donations to fund its construction.


The temple is located on the 27,870 square metre second floor with a 120 kg statue of Ramanuja, representing the years he lived, meant for daily worship. The 1,365 square metre third floor including a Vedic digital library and research center.

Sri Devi Karumariamman mandir, Chennai, Tamilnadu

Sri Devi Karumariamman mandir is in Thiruverkadu, a suburb of Chennai. It is said that God Muruga came here and obtained the 'Vel' (spear) from His mother, Goddess Karumari (an avatar of Parvathi) 1/n


to fight the demon Suran and hence this place was called as 'Vel kadu' and became as Verkadu. As per legend Devi Karumariamman once disguised as a soothsayer visited Bhagwan Surya, the Sun God, to predict His future. 2/n


Not realising that the soothsayer is none other than Sakthi Matha, Surya ignored Her. Angered by his indifference, Devi Karumariamman immediately retreated. Bhagwan Surya lost His glory and the earth plunged into darkness. 3/n


Bhagwan Surya then realised His folly and pleaded forgiveness from Devi Karumariamman. In order to pacify mother Karumariamman, Suryadev said that His rays would fall on Her directly twice in a year and touch her feet. (in the month of Panguni (March- April) & during (Sep - Oct)


Mother Karumari Amman is worshipped here in two forms.A swayambu (self manifested) with only head visible above the ground and another one in a graceful sitting posture with all Parasakthi features,with four arms holding skull, sword, trishul, udukkai (damru). 5/n
