25th Amendment and Impeachment thoughts.

There can not be a 25th amendment removal of Trump until Pence and Congress complete the certification of electors. Why?

2) Because Pence would become President and would no longer be able to preside over the Congress. A new VP would have to be nominated and then approved by congress and that takes time and allows for filibuster and other procedural delays that Trump supporters could employ...
3) and he has 6 senators and many reps still on his side. That would delay certification of electors for minimally a week or more because in the midst of this,
4) all it takes is a letter from the President to Congress saying “I’m ok” and he’s back in power until congress decides to challenge that letter, which must take place within 48 hours or it’s settled...
5) but the debate can carry on for a while longer as Trump gets to defend himself.
6) Impeachment also has to wait until the electors are certified because impeachment would also take up too much time.
7) Both actions could run past the 20th but especially Impeachment because not all senators and house member have been seated yet, Biden is not certified and again, Trump gets to defend.
8)Now, this does not mean he gets to squat in the White House. It means Nancy Pelosi becomes acting President... which means another speaker must be elected and the House is so closely divided that a Republican could win or keep the house divided...
9) and after the 20th, you can’t impeach Trump anymore unless he wins in court... or the states in question investigate (which all this insanity buys them time to do) and flip their electors!

Complicated and crazy, ain’t it?
10)
But this is a coup, make no mistake about that fact! Pence has betrayed his president, as have many like Graham and McConnell and others. All but 6 senators in fact.

This will come down to the wire.

The 25th Amendment is the fastest route but the timing is tricky.
11) Impeachment is preferred because then they can prevent Trump for running as an Independent in 4 years (you can never hold any office once impeached, unless congress passes permission, per the constitution).
12) Trump will create a new party and he’s going to have 30-50 Million people in the first week sign up... more will follow and the GOP will crash and burn in 2 years or less.
13)Still, I don’t think there is enough time to impeach without there being an obvious railroading... and these traitors need to save face or face open rebellion and likely the secession of many states. Meaning they lose power.
14)Hang on kids, it’s gonna be a bumpy ride... and Trump has some moves left too.

More from Government

Long thread: Because I couldn’t find anything comprehensive, I’m just going to post everything I’ve seen in the news/Twitter about Trump’s activities related to the Jan 6th insurrection. I think the timing & context of his actions/inactions will matter a lot for a senate trial.

12/12: The earlier DC protest over the electoral college vote during clearly inspired Jan 6th. On Dec 12th, he tweeted: “Wow! Thousands of people forming in Washington (D.C.) for Stop the Steal. Didn’t know about this, but I’ll be seeing them! #MAGA.”

12/19: Trump announces the Jan. 6th event by tweeting, “Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!” Immediately, insurrectionists begin to discuss the “Wild Protest.” Just 2 days later, this UK political analyst predicts the violence

12/26-27: Trump announces his participation on Twitter. On Dec. 29, the FBI sends out a nationwide bulletin warning legislatures about attacks https://t.co/Lgl4yk5aO1

1/1: Trump tweets the time of his protest. Then he retweets “The calvary is coming” on Jan. 6!” Sounds like a war? About this time, the FBI begins visiting right wing extremists to tell them not to go--does the FBI tell the president? https://t.co/3OxnB2AHdr
