SOROS backed Clinton Staffer/Employee, Cheryl Mills and the Clintons recommended SMARTMATIC back in 2010 bc they held a "successful" election in the Philippines which was later discovered to be wrought with fraud and illegalities.
Five days before the elections, petitions were made to postpone the elections due to technical malfunctions with the electronic voting machines. The corrupt Supreme Court overrode these concerns.
A report by GFN 2010 Election Observers Team released on May 27 titled "Foreign Observers Challenge Election Legitimacy", presented arguments questioning the May 10, 2010 elections.
1. The Automated Election System (AES) was implemented without the appropriate field testing, and law-specified testing in actual elections.
2. The source code review was not completed and initial findings were not addressed.
3. No audit was done on the AES prior to the elections. There was only a mandated random manual audit which was not yet done at the time the report was written on May 27, 2010.
4. Several voter and security features were disabled prior to elections.
What we've just witnessed in the U.S. is straight out if a playbook, well designed and practiced. None of this happened by chance. They view you as property. They own you.

The trial of Atiku Abubakar Kigo for police pension fraud, before Justice Hussien Baba of the FCT High Court, Maitama, Abuja, continued on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 with the testimony of the fourth prosecution witness (PW4), Mustapha Sani Gadanya.

Kigo, a former director in the Police Pension Office, is facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, alongside five others on amended eight-count charges, bordering on money laundering and criminal breach of trust to the tune of N24 billion.

At today’s sitting, Gadanya, who is a staff of Eco Bank in his testimony against the third defendant, Veronica Ulonma Onyegbula, presented bank account opening documents, account statements and Certificate of Identification on the documents from Eco bank,...

Appropriate anger has already been expressed about this comment in all media and suitable explanation and retraction done already. But I want to look at this as citizen.

North America and Europe have democracy for long time. They had chance of rebuilding their countries through two devastating world wars.

Their building was done before world became aware of rights of endogenous people, environment protection and corporate giants.

Only large country that managed scorching pace of growth and pulling population out of poverty in modern times is China. They are not democracy and there is no word for human rights in their language.

We, in India, are at a strange point of developement and democracy.
We desperately need developement for good of our population and to face external challenges but we NEED democracy.

Without democracy and credible opposition, we will be back to late 19th century chaos.

A thread on attempted election fraud in Canada: First, most breaches of election law here are related to financing, not illegal voting or ballot-box stuffing. And most are minor. That’s because our elxn finance laws are extremely tight and contribution/spending limits low. 1/


I covered two of the best-known cases in recent years: “robocalls” in 2011 election and the “in-and-out” affair of 2006. You probably heard a lot about the former and maybe nothing of the latter. Both were important for different reasons. 2/

In robocalls, the Conservative party’s voter-tracking database, CIMS, was used to make fraudulent automated calls to about 7,000 identified Liberal voters in Guelph, Ontario, directing them to the wrong polling location. The scheme didn’t work. The Liberals won the riding. 3/

Elections Canada caught on to the scheme on the day the calls were made, election day, and began investigating almost immediately. The long and complex investigation found the calls originated with someone working for the Conservative candidate in Guelph. 4/

After a trial, a lone campaign staffer was found guilty. He served jail time. The judge said it appeared to him others were likely involved but no one else was charged. Throughout, the CPC denied any knowledge of the scheme. 5/

Important paper from Google on large batch optimization. They do impressively careful experiments measuring # iterations needed to achieve target validation error at various batch sizes. The main "surprise" is the lack of surprises. [thread]

The paper is a good example of lots of elements of good experimental design. They validate their metric by showing lots of variants give consistent results. They tune hyperparamters separately for each condition, check that optimum isn't at the endpoints, and measure sensitivity.

They have separate experiments where the hold fixed # iterations and # epochs, which (as they explain) measure very different things. They avoid confounds, such as batch norm's artificial dependence between batch size and regularization strength.

When the experiments are done carefully enough, the results are remarkably consistent between different datasets and architectures. Qualitatively, MNIST behaves just like ImageNet.

Importantly, they don't find any evidence for a "sharp/flat optima" effect whereby better optimization leads to worse final results. They have a good discussion of experimental artifacts/confounds in past papers where such effects were reported.

A thread on HN about bad code in legacy projects both makes me think how little we've learned as a discipline over the years and, honestly, how little credit we give ourselves for some pretty major

Fun going down this list and thinking: "Hmm, plausible at a well-run modern software shop", "Hmm, possible, but requires implausible tradeoffs", "Literally disallowed by languages", and "If you were to attempt doing that our test suite wouldn't let you merge."

I think we as an industry celebrate (not quite the right word) failure too much and don't celebrate success nearly enough. There is no DailyWTF for competent execution, word of which generally stays pretty local to the source while incompetence passes into legend.

Alrighty let me try to thread the needle on being the change I want to see in the world while not giving away anything that will get me in trouble:

Ruby has wonderful developer ergonomics. Typed languages are easier for machines to guarantee the correctness of. We built a type checker for Ruby (and I believe it is slated for OSS release sometime).
