Now that the year is actually at the end and I have seen almost all the movies (haha not even close), I will list my favorites in no particular order in a thread no one will care about but me. But first, @letterboxd says there are 22,519 films released in the 2020s. Yikes. 1/?

#1 @MinariMovie by @A24 which is genuinely a movie I have thought about regularly since I saw it in January. Wider release in 2021 and do not sleep on this one. Gorgeous Korean American Arkansas farmer story of building a new future and generational gap. 😍🥰
#2 @nomadlandfilm by Chloe Zhao which is a sweeping hybrid film of the new American west and the death of the American dream. @Criterion needs to go ahead and collect. 3/?
#3 @americanutopia by Spike Lee brought us the reminder of music, theater, audiences, joy at a time when we needed it most. Oh David Byrne. Thank you.
#4 David Attenborough's A Life on Our Planet reminds us that Earth is a gorgeous place we are screwing up pretty royally. Cinematography alone worth a watch.
#5 @CripCampFilm which opened @sundancefest a million years go and changed the game for #disabilityinclusion in the fest industry and opened the gate for disabled stories told authentically (see ramp at Sundance awards finally added). @JimLeBrecht and @NicoleNewnham!
#6 Another Round or "Druk" by Thomas Vinterberg which is ludicrous and perfect and dare I say the perfect New Year's Eve movie. Mads is the best.
#7 @NeverRarelyFilm I wrote a review on this at one point so here: https://t.co/gSunIorYz4
#8 @timemovie is something that broke my heart - sobbing in a theater with the rest of the Sundance audience - a movie I am so glad I saw with others so we could openly weep together.
#9 @feelsgoodmandoc - a wild tale of intellectual property, the dangerous side of the Internet and the hate fuel to get you know who to become President.
#10 Dick Johnson Is Dead is irreverent, charming, wistful and reminds us that life is to be celebrated.
#11 Oh you thought it was a top 10? Ha. Zappa by @Winter is a great model of how a music doc should be done!
#12 Limbo by @BASharrock - While not yet distributed (?) it did have its fest release and I love this movie in a genuine heartfelt way. Simple and quiet and beautiful and says so much. Also so funny and eloquent.
#13 40 Year Old Version by @RadhaMUSprime is one of the most brilliant and honest films I have seen even with the disability joke on the bus I hate.
#14 @JohnLewisDoc would have been brilliant anyway but then we lost the great @JohnLewisLegacy and it reminded us of just how much he had given us all.
#15 76 Days gave us a first hand look at Wuhan and #Covid in a genuinely moving way that reminded us that we are all connected and fragile humans.
#16 Say what you will but @KajillionaireFF is still the perfect 2020 movie for me - that soap scene is basically the futile nature of all of us this year.
#17 @MissJuneteenth by @cgpeoples is just perfect as it is.
#18 Jasper Mall - I love it so much we gave it an award at @sidewalkfilm this year!
#19 The Invisible Man and Shirley - Let me say this - we do not deserve Elisabeth Moss. One of my favorite humans to have ever met.
#20 Belly of the Beast by Erika Cohn should prompt you to want to make change to our prison industrial complex or at least take away that we are a long way from being a good country.
#21 I Am Greta about @GretaThunberg is not just a biopic about an environmental warrior but also about a teenager with Aspergers and a woman fighting to make the issue about the topic and not her.
#22 MLK/FBI by Sam Pollard is a wonderful look back at history and revisiting a defining moment. I liked it so much I am bringing it to the drive-in next month. https://t.co/jBv7xUTVvP
#23 @CodedBias which shares how algorithms promote bias. Such a great film.
#24 Not sure where we fell on the Small Axe series but I am counting it here as it is REQUIRED VIEWING.
#25 Never Gonna Snow Again - Official submission of Poland for the 'Best International Feature Film' category of the 93rd Academy Awards in 2021. I won't be mad if it wins.
#26 Fireball by Werner Herzog is a delight while also educational.
#27 Sylvie's Love - throwback to the films like An Affair To Remember or The Shop Around the Corner. Dreamy.
#28 Wolfwalkers - best animation this year hands down.
#29 Underplayed about the EDM scene and the very few females included.
#30 The Assistant is quiet yet holds that tension throughout and the HR scene is something I believe most of us have experienced.
#31 - Can I count Zola? If not, I will add it to 2021! Also, final note - several others I am bringing to Oxford in March so can't add them yet. Stay tuned! /end
