In 2002, the person who ruled Gujurat was ... Narendra Modi.
Also at this time, there was a lot of community tension between Muslim and hindus.

Many hindus from some radical group like Vishva Hindu Parishad attacked, 27 February 2002, it was created a tension between them and after, a train for Ayodhya with Hindus pilgrims was burned.

59 people, mostly women and children were killed by this fire.

After this disaster, Modi came directly and showed his solidarity with these victims.
He carried their bodies to Ahmedabad.
He said also indirectly that, Muslim were responsible, speaking of "premeditated and inhuman act of violence"

The next day... The Bajrang Dal (Hanuman Army) and the VHP (Vishva Hindu Parishad = "World hindu council"), decreed a day of event throughout Gujurat.

It was at this moment, the beginning of genocide against innocent muslim civil in Gujurat.

28 February 2002, 97 Muslim were killed by 5000 hindus from especially, the Bajrang Dal at Naroda Patiya, in Ahmedabad, a lot of mosque were also destroyed.

For muslim women, they were publicly for some of them at Naroda Patiya and other parts in Gujurat, raped, gang raped, mass raped... sometimes even in front of their own family and after, burned by radical hindus only because they were muslim.

Even for pregnant muslim women, they were ruthless, they raped them , disembowel and burned their babies.

According to the official source, 790 Muslim and 254 Hindus were killed, 100 000 Muslims also and 40 000 Hindus were rendered homeless.
But according to the Civil rights and Muslim groups, more than 2000 Muslim were killed by Hindu mobs.
