@niki_poojary 1/ What is a Straddle?

Selling ATM CE & PE of the same strike price (usually ATM options) is called a short straddle.

Look at the picture below for an example of a short straddle in current weekly options.
@niki_poojary 2/ Why do traders like short straddles?

The highest theta or highest premium is collected in a straddle.

If the view is right, it can turn into a jackpot trade.

Sometimes the view is neither bullish nor bearish just sideways.

In this scenario, the straddle will work best.

Higher probability - More than 60% winning chance

Can turn directional too - Some strategies hit one leg SL so it turns into a directional trade

Big range - Can trade in Biweekly or Monthly or Far Months to get a wider range as well.
@niki_poojary Low SL - Can get out with a small stop loss if you trade based on premiums

Adjustments - Can increase your breakevens by deploying another straddle or by using futures

Jackpot - If it expires anywhere near the center you are in for a big big profit

Gaps - If a big gap happens you are in for a big loss

Spikes - If you sell and if IV spikes, you'll be in loss

Don't know max loss - Unlike hedged strategies, you don't know your maximum losses upfront

Margins - Higher than flies or condors
@niki_poojary 5/ When to do a Straddle based on Price action?

If you mark a high and a low on a chart and if the straddle premium is equivalent to the range you think the market will trade-in.

This is the perfect time to do a Short Straddle.

Also when you think the IV is very high.
@niki_poojary 6/ What do Straddlers do when in loss?

- Sell another straddle to increase breakeven

- Can go future long/short to mitigate directional risk

- Shift the straddle to where the market is to again get maximum theta

- Average by selling another straddle at a different strike
@niki_poojary 7/ What to do when in profit?

- Don't have to react until your combined SL hits for intraday, can keep lowering the SL to lower your risk.

- Positional traders don't need to react till their level breaks.

- Until the market is stuck in a range it is simple.
@niki_poojary There are very different methods to adjust straddles.

I can make a very good thread on just its adjustments for different scenarios.

Adjustments are not the same every time.
@niki_poojary 8/ Straddle with different ratios

Traders usually add to the winning leg and sometimes play with ratios when it comes to their view.

For eg, if you have sold a straddle with a neutral view and your view is turning bullish.

They sell more ATM puts and vice versa for bearish.

Rule 1:

"Trade with a stop loss of 2% on your capital for the week."

If you're losing more than 2%, chances are your reading of the market is wrong. The best would be to call it quits for that week.

Rule 2:

" Don't trade in the first 10 mins of any day"

Every day, there is far too much noise in the first few minutes. Positional traders should avoid some time in order to avoid being butchered right away.

Rule 3:

" Wait for candle closings in your timeframe"

Beware of wicks. They are buyer/seller traps. Rather wait for a good candle to close above your support/resistance to open/close a trade.

Rule 4:

" Don't lose more than 10% of your capital in a big gap"

The day I experienced the greatest Mtm loss to my capital was February 24. The figure was -47 lakhs. It was around 10% of my capital. Losing much more would set me back several months.

1/ How did he begin his journey?

Started stock market journey in 2012. Went into full-time in 2021.

Colleagues used to invest in mutual funds and that's how he started in the stock markets.

Started to make 8-10% return per year initially.

2/ Initial Profits

After that he attended a seminar due to his friend where he understood that there's a term called Futures and Options as well.

He had 4 lakh rupees, so he started with that amount.

3/ Lost 60% of his capital

In the next 5 days, his capital grew to 5 lakh rupees followed by another increase of 1 lakh profit in the next 5 days.

In the coming 10 days post his profits, his capital reduced to 2 lakh from 6 lakh.

4/ Instrument traded?

Which instrument was he trading during that initial period?

He was trading full quantities in futures and options buying during that time, without any hedging.

We’ve all grown up listening to stories of Shri Krishna. This one is a famous story of Shri Krishna in Guruvayur Temple, also called Dakshina Dwaraka.


There lived a villager who planted coconut saplings and had promised that he would offer the 'first coconut' from each of his coconut trees to "Guruvayurappan". When the trees started to yield coconuts, he collected the first coconut from all the trees in a sack 👇


and set forth to Guruvayur.

On the way he was stopped by a robber who asked all the items in the sack. The villager told the robber that the coconuts in the sack belonged to Guruvayurappan and so he was unable to hand it over.

The robber with anger asked the villager "Is Guruvaurappan's coconut any different? Does it have horns ?".
Saying so the robber pulled the sack forcefully out of the villager's hand, and coconuts came out..👇


To their astonishment each and every coconut in the sack had horns! Even today, the coconut with horns are displayed in the temple for devotees to see.

What Happened To Bhakt Prahlad after Hiranyakashipu Vadh

Prahlada became the mighty king of the Asuras after Shri Narsimha killed Hiranyakashipu. Prahlada was even more powerful than his father, Hiranyakashipu ever was. He enjoyed the love and respect of his subjects.


By virtue of his good behaviour, Prahlada conquered the three worlds easily and Indra ran away from the Heavens. Indra then deceived Prahlada into giving him the power of his behaviour and Prahlada lost control of the three worlds.


Asuras grew angry at the Devas for taking advantage of their King's virtuous behaviour and invaded the heavens. The Devas, afraid of the Asuras, enlisted the help of human Kings such as Yayati, Raji and Kakutstha and defeated them.

Prahlada attacked the gods and defeated Indra in battle, forcing the King of the Gods to run for his life. Indra sought help of Lord Vishnu. Infused with his power, Indra defeated Prahlada. The latter understood that Vishnu was helping Indra in battle and he withdrew his forces.


Prahlada first gave his kingdom to Andhaka, but the latter was defeated by Shiva. So Prahlada gave it to his son Virochana and undertook a Tirtha Yatra.

Some quick thoughts on Sam Gyimah's resignation after conversations with various Conservative MPs: 1) the chances of a second referendum are a lot higher than I thought:

2) At this point, if you are a young and ambitious Tory MP it is now so overwhelmingly in your interest to vote against the withdrawal agreement. V v hard to see how Julian Smith can cap rebellion at under 100:

3) Really just to reiterate 1) Gyimah is the kind of "No, never gonna rebel" vaguely pro-EU Tory you'd need to get on side to outweigh Labour Leavers and Real Concerners.

Remembering Colonel Anil Kaul, VrC (Retd) on his 3rd Death Anniversary.

“It was October 12, 1987, exactly 5:55 pm as I was… coming out of the cupola of my T-72 tank on a steamy evening in an unknown place called Kokkuvil in the Jaffna district of Northern Sri Lanka.+


I froze in that confined space at what I saw. An LTTE militant stood at 60 meters aiming his rocket-propelled gun at my tank.

In a flash he fired. Probably having lost his nerve he aimed too low. The projectile hit the left mudguard of the tank, but for some inexplicable reason+


did not explode. It then hit the side of the main gun and then exploded on top of the turret, all in a fraction of a second. Before I knew, it seemed I had received a straight right punch so to say to my chin. I saw some blood appear on my left hand and there was a sharp drop in+

The best way to know if people like your product is NOT:

- Have a lot of emails in the waiting list
- Become #1 on PH
- Become #1 of HN or Reddit
- Have people that saing "I'll pay"
- Have a lot of free users

The best way to know if they're actually pay for it.

The only thing that matters is your product providing a value, and you can't know this until people will pay money for it.

We can have a first signal of a product/market fit after the launch by check how many sales we've got in the first 24h. Some scale:

200+ This has a high potential.
100+: This has a potential.
50+: Some people need it.
10+: People almost don't need it.
0+: People don't need it.

This is for a single time payment product. For a subscription probably it should be less because people hate subscription.

And obviously, you should have a lot of traffic like 3-5k+.
