Vengalil K.Chinnammalu Amma

She was the sister of a well-known diplomat & former Defense Minister, V. K. Krishna Menon.

A feminist by nature, she felt examining the history of ancient India, a society in which women enjoyed full freedom, in the Puranas and the Epics was found.

She argued : Didn't Kunti & Draupadi have opinions regarding the Mahabharata War?

When Shri Krishna set forth as the messenger of the Pandavas, didn't an impassioned Draupadi argue vehemently against a compromise?
Neither Krishna nor the Pandavas interrupted her on the grounds that she was trespassing on matters beyond her authority.

When Nala seemed hell-bent on squandering the treasury & ruining his people,
Damayanti didn't stay passive, saying that ruling the country was none of her business.

It is this gentle lady who entrusted the care of the young Prince, the heir to the throne, with the minister, on seeing that her husband had taken leave of his better senses and judgement.
Acc to her, a woman is more prone towards minute observation of dealings in the external world. Man remains engrossed in his own thoughts and emotions. External goings-on would not catch much of his attention. Therefore, woman has far more acute powers of observation.
Man is braver, and more capable of courageous deeds. However, the stamina and grit to endure long stretches of suffering and disadvantage are lacking in men.

And in every field, she felt there a need of women being there to balance the system.
Woman can never rejoice at the sight of the earth being soaked by human blood.

Dhritarashtra did not mourn the Bharata war. It was the tears of blood shed by a woman, Gandhari, which fell upon the lifeless bodies of the heroes at Kurukshetra.

Such were here thoughts🙏🏽🙏🏽

Today on the Birth Anniversary of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, I wish to narrate how our hero was treated by the Government then.

One of the several reasons, Sam Manekshaw was treated badly, is mentioned in the tweet below 👇🏽

#sammanekshaw

When Dr.Abdul Kalam was the President, he visited Coonoor. On reaching, he came to know that Field Marshall Sam Manekshaw was in the Military Hospital there. Dr.Kalam wanted to visit Sam, which was unscheduled. Arrangements were made.

#sammanekshaw

At the bedside, Kalam spent abt 15 minutes talking to Sam & enquiring abt his health.

Just before leaving Kalam asked Sam "Are you comfortable? Is there anything I could do? Do you have any Grievance ? or any requirement that would make you more comfortable?"

#sammanekshaw

Sam said "Yes Your Excellency, I have one grievance". Shocked with concern & anguish , APJ asked him what it was .

Sam replied "Sir, my grievance is that I am not able to get up & salute the most respected President of my beloved country".

#sammanekshaw

Dr. Kalam held Sam's hand as both were in tears.

But the remaining part of the tale with regards to this meeting is the most essential part.

This is a pretty valiant attempt to defend the "Feminist Glaciology" article, which says conventional wisdom is wrong, and this is a solid piece of scholarship. I'll beg to differ, because I think Jeffery, here, is confusing scholarship with "saying things that seem right".

The article is, at heart, deeply weird, even essentialist. Here, for example, is the claim that proposing climate engineering is a "man" thing. Also a "man" thing: attempting to get distance from a topic, approaching it in a disinterested fashion.

Also a "man" thing—physical courage. (I guess, not quite: physical courage "co-constitutes" masculinist glaciology along with nationalism and colonialism.)

There's criticism of a New York Times article that talks about glaciology adventures, which makes a similar point.

At the heart of this chunk is the claim that glaciology excludes women because of a narrative of scientific objectivity and physical adventure. This is a strong claim! It's not enough to say, hey, sure, sounds good. Is it true?
