TULSI : THE ELIXIR OF LIFE

Tulsi or The Holy Basil is a fragrant Indian herb that is highly revered in Hindu culture. It is essential in the worship of Bhagwan Vishnu and all his avatars. Tulsi plant can be found in most of the Hindu households.

 Hindu houses are believed to be incomplete without Tulsi.
According to Hindu Scriptures Tulsi is an incarnation of Vrinda who was the wife of Demon https://t.co/BRZgPaboBS per Puranic scriptures, Demon Jallandhar was a very ardent devotee of Bhagwan Vishnu.
Bhagwan Shiv killed Vrinda's husband Jallandhar in a battle. Vrinda was a righteous woman even though her husband was a demon. So, Bhagwan Shiva gave her a boon of taking rebirth as Tulsi, which would be considered one of the greatest medicinal plants in the world.
Bhagwan Vishnu also promised her that any prayer to him would be incomplete without Tulsi leaves.

There is also a mention of Tulsi in the historic event of 'Samudra Manthana' when the churning of cosmic oceans was carried out by Gods & Demons in order to get Amrit.
It is noted that when Dhanvantari-The God of Medicine emerged from the ocean carrying the Amrit, Bhagwan Vishnu shed the tears of joy which flew into the Amrit & transformed into Tulsi.
In Bhagvat Geeta, there is a story of Bhagwan Krishna being weighed in Gold.
All the Gold ornaments of Satyabhama couldn't outweigh Krishna's weight but as soon as a single Tulsi leaf was placed by Rukmani on the pan,it tilted the weighing scale.

Bhagwan Brahma is believed to reside in the branches of Tulsi.All the deities r believed to reside in leaves.
All holy pilgrimages including Ganges reside in the roots.

RELIGIOUS SIGNIFICANCE OF TULSI

Considered as a central sectarian symbol of Hindu Dharma, Tulsi is believed by the Vaishnavas as the manifestation of God in the Plant Kingdom.
A person is believed to attain Moksha just by caring and watering the Tulsi plant daily even if he doesn't worship the Plant. Tulsi plant is worshipped by chanting the Hindu mantras and circumambulating the Plant. Flowers, Ganga water and Dhoop Agarbatti( Incense) is offered.
When a person is dying, Tulsi leaves are placed on his face, eyes, ears and chest. A twig of Tulsi that is immersed in the Ganga water is touched from head to toe of the dead person for the purification of his body, removing all sins and ending the cycle of rebirth.
Tulsi occupies sixth place among the eight objects required for worship in the Hindu rituals.

There are two types of Tulsi plants.The dark one is called Shyama Tulsi & it has greater medicinal value. It is used for the worship more commonly.The lighter one is called Rama Tulsi
Tulsi is indispensable for worshipping Bhagwan Vishnu.Tulsi mala is made of 10000 Tulsi leaves, it is mixed with Ganga water, food items are offered to Bhagwan Vishnu in conjunction with Tulsi Mala.
Hindu prayer Jaap Mala is made from Tulsi stems or roots.
This 'Jaap Mala' is considered auspicious and it brings the wearer in connection with Bhagwan Vishnu. This Mala is believed to bridge the gap between earth & heaven and confers the blessings of Deities on wearer of Tulsi Mala.
Scientific name of Holy Basil is Ocimum Tenuiflorum and it has immense HEALTH BENEFITS.

और उन्होनें ब्रह्मविद्या का ज्ञान अश्विनि कुमारों को दे दिया। गुप्तचरों के माध्यम से जब खबर इन्द्रदेव तक पहुंची तो वे क्रोध में खड़ग ले कर गए और महर्षि दधीचि का सर धड़ से अलग कर दिया।मगर अश्विनी कुमार भी कहां चुप बैठने वाले थे।उन्होने तुरंत एक अश्व का सिर महर्षि के धड़ पे...


...प्रत्यारोपित कर उन्हें जीवित रख लिया।उस दिन के पश्चात महर्षि दधीचि अश्वशिरा भी कहलाए जाने लगे।अब आगे सुनिये की किस प्रकार महर्षि दधीचि का सर काटने वाले इन्द्र कैसे अपनी रक्षा हेतु उनके आगे गिड़गिड़ाए ।

एक बार देवराज इन्द्र अपनी सभा में बैठे थे, तो उन्हे खुद पर अभिमान हो आया।


वे सोचने लगे कि हम तीनों लोकों के स्वामी हैं। ब्राह्मण हमें यज्ञ में आहुति देते हैं और हमारी उपासना करते हैं। फिर हम सामान्य ब्राह्मण बृहस्पति से क्यों डरते हैं ?उनके आने पर क्यों खड़े हो जाते हैं?वे तो हमारी जीविका से पलते हैं। देवर्षि बृहस्पति देवताओं के गुरु थे।

अभिमान के कारण ऋषि बृहस्पति के पधारने पर न तो इन्द्र ही खड़े हुए और न ही अन्य देवों को खड़े होने दिया।देवगुरु बृहस्पति इन्द्र का ये कठोर दुर्व्यवहार देख कर चुप चाप वहां से लौट गए।कुछ देर पश्चात जब देवराज का मद उतरा तो उन्हे अपनी गलती का एहसास हुआ।

MAHARAANI TARARANI: THE QUEEN OF MARATHAS

Rani Tarabai was the brave daughter-in-law of Chhatrapati Shivaji and one of the greatest medieval Monarchs India ever had.
She was born in 1675 to one of the bravest commander-in-chiefs of Shivaji's Army named Hambir Rao Mohite.


Tarabai was just 8yrs old when she was married to Shivaji's younger son, Rajaram. Mughals and Marathas were constantly at war with each other. Shivaji was crowned the ruler of the Independent Maratha Swarajya in 1674 which was established by him.


However,the great leader died in 1680&the Maratha Samrajya went into a complete&total chaos.Marathas saw some very tough times ahead. In 1689,when Raigad Fort fell to the Mughal Army of over 15000,Shivaji's first wife Saibai and his elder son Sambhaji were captured&put to death.


Sambhaji's wife and son Shahu were taken prisoners to the Mughal court. During the same battle, Shivaji's second son Rajaram(Tarabai's husband) , who was the heir to the throne now, managed to escape using a disguise. He made his way to the Gingee Fort in Tamil Nadu.


Mughal General Zulfikar Khan, however, followed them to Gingee laying siege to the Gingee Fort. From 1690-1698,This was the longest siege by a Mughal Army of any Fort which stands testimony to the military and diplomatic credentials of Rani Tarabai.

IT WAS RISHI KANADA WHO GAVE THE ATOMIC THEORY & TALKED ABOUT THE GRAVITY OF EARTH, 2600 YEARS BEFORE AN APPLE FELL IN FRONT OF NEWTON'S EYES:

Scientists of the modern world credit an English scientist John Dalton (1766 CE -1844 CE) for the Atomic Theory.


And this is because, most of us are not even aware of an ancient Indian Sage named Kanada, who was the first to formulate the theory of atoms, almost 2600 yrs before Dalton and talk about earth's gravity.


Rishi Kanada was born around 600 BCE in Dwarka, Gujarat and he was the son of a philosopher named Ulka. He was fascinated with the minute detailing of the things right from his childhood. Once, when he was very young, he accompanied his father on a journey to Prayaga.


He saw plentiful grains scattered along the path leading to the shore of river Ganga. It's a tradition in Hindu families to scatter the grains for the ants and birds to feed on them. Suddenly, an ant caught his attention, who was feeding on a rice grain.


He was mesmerised by this very fact that how a small grain of rice becomes food for the ant but to satisfy the hunger of a person so many grains are needed together. This incidence made him realize the importance of a single grain of rice.

🌺Rajaraja Chola:The Mighty Chola King.🌺

Rajaraja Chola I was the one of the greatest ruler of the Imperial Chola dynasty who ruled in the period between 985 CE to 1014 CE. His real name was Arulmozhi Varman.


Through his extensive military campaigns, Rajaraja Chola transformed the Chola kingdom into a mighty empire that covered almost entire South India, parts of northern India, Northern parts of Srilanka, the islands of Maldives, and South East Asia.


Rajaraja was a great military general. He established a large standing army and a powerful navy. With the help of this army he waged unending campaigns against his neighbours - the Cheras and Pandyas and crushed their power.


To commemorate these victories, Rajaraja assumed the title of "Mummudi Chola" i.e the one who wears three crowns of Cholas, Pandyas and Cheras.

His most important military campaign was his invasion of modern day Srilanka.


Chola navy & army under his command crossed the ocean &destroyed ancient Singhla capital of Anuradhapura. Destruction of Anuradhapur was so great that it was turned into ruins& abandoned. City of Polanaruwa was made new capital & Shiva temple was built to commemorate the victory.

🌺Significance of a Lotus Flower in Sanatan and Asian culture.🌺

The lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) is an ancient and polyvalent symbol in Asian culture. Hindus revere it with God Vishnu, Brahma and to a lesser degree Kubera, and the Goddesses Lakshmi and Saraswati.


Often used as an example of divine beauty and purity. Vishnu is often described as the "Lotus-Eyed One". It is believed that a lotus sprang from the navel of Vishnu while he was in Yoga Nidra. The lotus then bloomed uncovering the creator God Brahma in a lotus position.


Its unfolding petals signify the expansion of the soul. The growth of its pure beauty from the mud of its origin holds a benign spiritual promise. Particularly Brahma and Lakshmi, the divinities of potency and wealth, have the lotus symbol associated with them.

The lotus flower is one of the Ashtamangala of Buddhism, symbolic of creation and cosmic renewal and "primordial purity" and shares in the chakra and mandala symbolism of the Dharma chakra, is also cited extensively within the Puranas and Vedas, for example:


One who performs his duty without attachment, surrendering the results unto the Supreme Lord, is unaffected by sinful action, as the lotus is untouched by water.

The symbolic significance of a lotus is reflective in Chinese cultures with a famous statement..

ANCIENT BHARAT WAS CALLED VISHWAGURU, AND IT REALLY DESERVED IT.

India had a well developed education system centuries before the westerners arrived and called us uncivilized. Education was always given a great importance in Indian civilisation since times immemorial.


Ancient India had the Gurukulas and Ashramas as the epicentres of the knowledge and enlightenment. Bigger Gurukulas served as the centres of higher education called universities. Besides these universities, temples also emerged as the major learning centres.

Studying the Holy Scriptures, character building, personality development, responsibilities towards self,family and society,discipline and preservation of the ancient culture and heritage were the key embodiments of education.

This kind of education system made ancient India, a centre of knowledge all over the world. Many foreign students came to India for education and India was called the 'Vishwaguru'.
Takshshila and Nalanda were the two prominent universities of ancient India.


But were these only Universities of ancient India?The answer is 'No'.Let's learn about these gems of our education system that flourished across ancient India & be proud.

RANI GAIDINLIU:THE LESSER KNOWN FREEDOM FIGHTER

Rani Gaidinliu joined the freedom struggle at 13 &was sentenced to life imprisonment at 16."We r free people—the White should not rule over us.”Thus calling out to her Zeliangrong tribesmen was the voice of 13yr-old Rani Gaidinliu.


She joined the freedom struggle in the present-day Northeast India. Today, her struggle is lost in history as most of her countrymen wouldn’t even have heard her name. B'coz our history textbooks tell us that only Mahatma Gandhi &Pandit Nehru got India its Independence.


At 16 yrs of age, this valiant girl was sentenced to life imprisonment for leading a movement to drive out the colonial rulers from Manipur and Nagaland. Nevertheless, she was released in 1947 after India’s independence and was given the title ,"Rani of Nagas".


EARLY LIFE AND HERAKA MOVEMENT

Gaidinliu belonged to the Rongmei clan of the Zeliangrong tribe in the Tamenglong district of western Manipur. Born on January 26, 1915, she was fifth among eight children.


Her native village was Nungkao, which is present day Tamenglong distt. Brought up in a specially backward region,she couldn't receive any formal education. However,this didn't stop her from joining the freedom struggle. At the age of 10 she came under the influence of her cousin.

I worked in bank liquidity and treasury for the better part of the last decade, and there is one very interesting risk factor from the SVB collapse that I do not think we have ever witnessed before in modern finance, a 🧵:

First, some context. Following the 2008 financial crisis where a massive driver of stress was caused by low quality assets littering the balance sheets of massive institutions, the regulators sought to create a framework to ensure all banks were verifiably sound.

This meant forcing Federally registered banks to conform to capital and liquidity ratios. If they did not comply, they would not be allowed to issue dividends or buy back stocks, hurting the value of their enterprise.

There was the introduction of the concept of RWA, or risk weighted assets. A simple way to think of these ratios is, the riskier your asset base on a weighted basis, the more high quality capital (think cash) you would need to hold to stay in compliance.

Not only were banks required to regularly be in compliance with these ratios as a going concern, but needed to prove they could maintain certain limits when met with a time of stress across a number of incrementally adverse scenarios.

SHAKTA DHARMA AND THEIR ACHARYAS

Śhākta or Shakti or Devi pooja is not a new upasana. It is being carried out right from the time of Vedic period. Puran's tell us that Rishi Vashishth would worship Tara devi. Parshuram ji worshipped Tripura devi,


Agastya learned the secrets of Shri Vidya from Vishnu ji in Hayagriva avtaar. Bhagwan Ram, Laxman and Krishna too learned the tantrik vidya. Even Rig Ved 7.103.5 Sayan Bhasya also mentions about Śhākta/शाक्त(शाक्तस्येव शक्तिमतः).

Then we find that in the Harrappan excavations many figurines depicting Shakti were found. So in that age too, which was supposedly an urban city shakti was being worshipped. So naturally this tradition would be prevalent in rural areas too.

It is wrong to say that shakti puja originated from Bengal although it was popular there. Matsyendranath received this vidya from Maheshwari herself in Kamrup. We know that Shakti pooja is practised all over India.

Not much is known about the Śhākta saints in other parts of India in the middle ages.

Important paper from Google on large batch optimization. They do impressively careful experiments measuring # iterations needed to achieve target validation error at various batch sizes. The main "surprise" is the lack of surprises. [thread]

The paper is a good example of lots of elements of good experimental design. They validate their metric by showing lots of variants give consistent results. They tune hyperparamters separately for each condition, check that optimum isn't at the endpoints, and measure sensitivity.

They have separate experiments where the hold fixed # iterations and # epochs, which (as they explain) measure very different things. They avoid confounds, such as batch norm's artificial dependence between batch size and regularization strength.

When the experiments are done carefully enough, the results are remarkably consistent between different datasets and architectures. Qualitatively, MNIST behaves just like ImageNet.

Importantly, they don't find any evidence for a "sharp/flat optima" effect whereby better optimization leads to worse final results. They have a good discussion of experimental artifacts/confounds in past papers where such effects were reported.

1. It makes your winners bigger than your losers.

• Because you are adding positions when your trades are going your way, you are increasing your gains but your losers will be small comparatively.

2. You lose less during Draw-down time ( it saves you from losing big during whipsaws )

• Many times when the market is in sideways mode, Entering a trade with full risk might not be the best idea.

• So, you test the waters with a small position first, it could be ⅓ or ¼ of your total risk.

• So if the Breakout fails or whipsaws come, then you will only lose a small part of your overall risk.

• Then when position starts to go in your favor you can add to it.

3. It helps you to concentrate on a few trades,

They say that don’t put all your eggs in one basket, but don’t put them in too many either.
