#Govanhill 🧵: A lone man with an aspiration to be a Mental Health “vlogger/advocate” youtuber for men has started patrolling Govanhill to “get the word out” about child sexual exploitation & general living standards of the area. The Good Samaritan, we know how this goes..

He went up many closes filming, but there was nothing to see in the “nice closes”. He then chose the worst closes to use as “evidence” (they are online and easy to find). Closes that have been condemned, that have no factor and are known to be owned by slum landlords.

During this he spoke about groups of people who are “filthy”.
Cue racism cloaked as the Good Samaritan.
The dog whistles started. The community is no stranger to racist tropes about “dirty foreigners” & general policing of non-white families, it is vile, threatening and not on.

We have a duty to call it out & challenge random people that show up “knowing” more than the community & professionals. They are inciting racial hatred and we cannot be silent on this. I trust the people that work and live there more than a 2 bob GI Joe, and so should you.

[THREAD] I want to revisit a topic I get asked about almost everyday. Physical symptoms in mental health. They are so scary and can be so hard to believe that something like anxiety can cause such devastating symptoms. Let’s break it down and see how that happens.

Generally speaking, mental health symptoms are divided into 3 distinct categories: physical, psychological and social. Psychological would be racing thoughts, intrusive thoughts. Social is withdrawal from loved ones and other social symptoms.

Physical symptoms are definitely those that feel that we notice the most because they can look like potentially dangerous illnesses. Usually, we experience those symptoms, go to the emergency room, and the doctors can’t find anything.

It leaves us feeling puzzled and wondering what’s happening. What happens is that our mind identifies some type of danger. After that, it is time for the endocrine system to start working. It releases hormones that send signals to our body.

These hormones (cortisone, adrenaline) tell our body to prepare to fight or run away. Blood goes to our muscles, meaning our brain doesn’t have enough blood pumping. That’s why we feel that brain fog, racing thoughts, tunnel vision and we get that burst of energy.

10 months into online classes, isolated from friends and all things fun that the school brought along, kids are feeling lonely, angry, and demotivated to study. Psychologists say it may not be a passing feeling. And it is worrisome

Children with social anxiety are struggling with the spotlight on them during online classes. Instagram creators are making videos on it with the intention of having fun perhaps? But YouTube has very unfunny real videos of teachers being trolled by kids during online classes.

Younger kids are missing out on basic skills like learning to read, do basic calculations, etc. Slightly older ones are showing signs of hyperactivity. They're not doing homework, switching video off and playing games online, some are even getting addicted to pornography.

Kids are acting out. “Earlier, acting out for kids meant spray-painting on public walls, for instance. With that option not available anymore, when they act out, it can be more serious, and it can jeopardise communities,” says @ellenbraaten of @harvardmed.
