‘Lilavati’ is a ‘Treatise’ of the great Indian Mathematician Bhaskaracharya which was written in 1150. It is the first volume of his main work, the “Siddhanta Shiromani”.

It was named after his daughter Lilavati. She was a very beautiful child and very intelligent too, which was a rare combination.

Bhaskara was apprehensive about his daughter's inquisitiveness and curiosity. The little girl asked her father many questions and gained a lot of knowledge this way.

As she grew up, Bhaskara decided to get Lilavati married. In the process, Bhaskara perused Lilavati's horoscope.

He was shocked when he found out that Lilavati would not have a happy married life if she did not get married at a particular auspicious time.

He did not tell Lilavati about this, as he despised hurting his daughter.He made all arrangements to make sure that

Lilavati would get married at the auspicious time.
In order to make sure that he did not miss this particular time, he kept a cup with a small hole at the bottom of a vessel filled with water, arranged so that the cup would sink at the beginning of the destined auspicious hour.

They used to perform before King's court. One day in Laitha's absence Lalit made many mistake in his dance which made King angry. King cursed him to become an ugly demon. Hearing this Lalitha stood with her husband in doing any parihara to undo the curse. They met Shringi Muni.

Sringi muni told them to observe Kamada Ekadashi vratham to relieve from curse. They observed the vrat & thus Lalit was relieved from all sins. Vratham should be taken from today Dashami evening & parana on Dwadashi 6:15 to 10.40 AM.

My Op-ed on yesterday's attack on Shobha Yatras across many states.

I will try to cover why a particular community is feeling so agitated in the present scenario.

This is my personal opinion, so you can feel free to counter, make suggestions or add your own points.

Let's look at this situation from the recently concluded 5 state elections. Whr BJP won 4 states out of 5. The 5th state which was won by AAP has very less presence of that community, so it doesn't bother them much but the biggest state which has hurt them is Uttar Pradesh.

For almost 70 years they had a dominant presence in Uttar Pradesh politics, be it Congress, SP or BSP, they had a sizeable represention in the govt & in the assembly. But in post 2017, their presence from the assembly has diminished & this pattern will be replicated across India

Recent attacks were seen in Rajasthan, MP, Gujarat which are going for state elections next. Most likely results of UP will be replicated & other state is Jharkhand whr change of guard is speculated in media. Let's see why state elections could be one of the reason of frustration

Let's look at some of their strong or so called Bahubali netas in Hindi heartland. Azam Khan, Atique Ahmad, Mukhtar Ansari, Mohammed Shahabuddin, etc

All these are criminals turned politician who enjoy tremendous support in their home constituencies & in minority dominated areas

My Dad works at a crappy job, drinks too much, and his only friend is his brother.

I always thought he led an unfulfilled life.

But I had an epiphany:

I'm always worried, and anxious, and angry.

My Dad is none of these things.

Maybe he actually has life figured out. Maybe I can learn from him.

Below is counter-intuitive wisdom from my dad Chaz that you won’t find in any self-help book:

Eat like crap and drink like a fish.

My Dad is on The Buffett Diet: soda all day like Warren and liquor all night like Jimmy. He ends the night with a sleeve of Oreos.

And he looks great.

So eat whatever you want, drink however much you want, & don’t stress about your diet.

Think only of yourself.

My brother and my dad's brother had a HUGE fight and stopped speaking to each other.

I would have felt anxious, but Chaz shrugged. "That's their problem."

The only time he's concerned if it directly affects him, like when Mom was diagnosed with cancer.

Even with a cancer diagnosis, Dad wasn't worried about my mom's surgery.

“There’s no point in worrying about something until there’s something to worry about.” 

So don’t worry about other people or things outside your control. Be like Timon, Pumba, and Chaz. Hakuna Matata.
