Local švs.šļø State - A Threadš§µ
1/
For starters, we should clarify that we are focused on our 3 current asks:
1. Support for a new schools moratorium
2. Creation of a citywide comprehensive plan for schools
3. Curbing of tax incentive abuse
This thread will largely be focused on the above. But first!

General Remarks
Funding for local public school districts comes from 3 primary sources: local, state, and federal. According to the 2020 @SLPS_INFO Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR), 80% of revenue comes from local revenue, 13% from the state, and 7% federally.
3/
Local funding is primarily generated by property taxes, state funding gets dispersed from GR and a few other sources (lottery, etc.) to each district statewide based on the Missouri Foundation Formula, and federal funding comes in for various federal programs.
4/
State lawmakers frequently tout "fully funding" the Foundation Formula, but this is deceptive. The tried-and-true method to get to this is reduce the bar for what it means to "fully fund" the formula.

So let me be really clear: a lot of astronomers believe that new evidence has been uncovered that James Webb has been unfairly maligned as a homophobe. The evidence actually shows:
— \U0001f1e7\U0001f1e7 Ethereal Bisexual Chanda Prescod-Weinstein (@IBJIYONGI) January 25, 2021
- he wasn\u2019t the first homophobe (shock)
- after 1950 he knew about it, was in charge, did nothing
Iām pissed also at everyone who read that blog entry and walked away thinking, āoh he sounds like a good guy who has been unfairly maligned who should have a space telescope named after him.ā Excuse me, what?
Most of you would never been foolish enough in 2021 to say such a thing about a man who sanctioned institutional anti-Black racism but you think thatās an ok message to send to queer people, including Black queer people?
And heās gonna get away with it too. No matter what I say, that blog entry will keep making the rounds and people will believe it even though it hasnāt been through a formal edit and fact check process.
Next time Hakeem should maybe send me an email rather than write vague, unprofessional personal attacks like: "astrophysicist who propagated unsubstantiated false information as if it were true without performing proper scientific rigor to investigate its veracity"
\U0001f92fRalph D. Winter has written the best short explanation of the 2020 polarization within Calvinist & conservative circles over CRT, race, Marxism, etc. If you want to know why many blacks who were involved in the TGC world in '05 no longer are, read this! https://t.co/PvrzxzLjUr

Oh well, you are supposed to recruit.ā Then they recruit more and more people, and set them also to recruiting still other people. Some day someone says, āArenāt we supposed to be fighting a war?ā āOh yeah, thereās a war.ā ... 2/
Church Mission-which is absolutely basic & absolutely valid-is to extend the faith & transform people into reliable people of integrity. Kingdom Mission is when the church stops thinking abt itself & its members & pursues Godās will in this world, not just pursues more members.3/
In his book Church Shift, Sunday Adelaja, the pastor of the largest church in Europe, says that when members do things like help in the nursery and direct traffic on Sunday, thatās not mission. Itās church housekeeping. š 4/
The church exists to extend the glory of God & His will in society whether or not it makes advances in church membership. Many are leaving the church today because what secular people are doing is more exciting, more relevant, concrete, & may seem to be more Biblically valid. 5/
#MedEd is showing itās true colors yet again, with the abrupt transition in leadership in which the program director, Dr. Dennar was forcibly resigned from her position as PD without justifiable cause but ironically after she filed a lawsuit šš¾
Hey #AcademicMedicine & #MedTwitter, does anyone notice a pattern here?

Although each story may be considered n=1 (therefore easy to dismiss) collectively they tell a story that no one should be dismissing. #WomenInMedicine #BlackWomenInMedicine #BlackMenInMedicine #BeEthical pic.twitter.com/CDrKH0mCB7
Iām frankly tired. But again I speak up. This is completely unacceptable. #DNRTulane
CW: //violence
Dr. Dennar faced misogynoir on top of interpersonal and systemic violence. Iām disgusted at the levels to this #DNRTulane
As someone who interviewed at this program, I was drawn by Tulaneās service to minority populations in a place hit by one of the worst natural disasters this country has seen. I was personally moved by my interview day. #DNRTulane
But this news is antithetical to everything I stand for and what I previously believed Tulane to stand for. Yet another Black woman has been forced out of a leadership position due to discriminatory practices. Legal intervention was required. #DNRTulane
