Court upholds conviction of Chinese businessman linked to Hunter Biden

A federal appeals court upheld the criminal convictions against Patrick Ho, a Chinese businessman and think tank leader linked to President-elect Joe Biden’s son, Hunter.

When Ho, one of Chinese energy tycoon Ye Jianming’s lieutenants, was charged by the Justice Department in 2017, the first call he reportedly made after his arrest was to Joe Biden’s brother, James, who has said he thought the call was meant for Hunter Biden.

Ho was indicted and convicted under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for his role in a global money laundering and bribery scheme aimed at government officials in Africa.

The Justice Department also accused Ho of helping with Iranian sanctions evasion and working to use the Chinese company’s connections to sell weaponry to Chad, Libya, and Qatar. Ho was sentenced to three years in prison in March 2019 and was deported to Hong Kong in June.

SEN. LANKFORD: December 2016, a poll said 32% of Americans believed that the Russians had influenced the outcome of the election. Based on that belief, we spent millions investigating it, we had 6 congressional hearings, etc because 32% of Americans didn't trust that election.

2/ A few days ago, a poll said 46% of Americans believe there was election & voter fraud in the 2020 election. 80% of Trump supporters and 16% of Biden supporters believe there was fraud. Now, amazingly after the 2020 election, everyone is saying "lets move on and ignore this."

3/ In my state on election night, like 27 other states in the country, by that evening, we were counting votes, and all absentee ballots had been received. There was much less opportunity for fraud because all of our absentee ballots were in.

4/ Amazingly, a week after this election, some states were still telling us, they weren't sure how many ballots were left to count. That gives opportunity for fraud, questions, and problems. It's reasonable to ask if there was fraud when you mail a ballot to everyone in a state.

5/ Even if they didn't ask for a ballot. Especially, when the state did not first purge or verify those addresses & they sent thousands of ballots to people that no longer live there. That's a problem. There were at least 91,000 registered voters that are dead. That's a problem.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that I have taken the decision to resign from the SNP.

I cannot in good faith ask people to vote SNP in the upcoming Holyrood elections. Those with the ability to make a difference, and make positive change have stood by and done nothing

1. I have tried to reconcile myself many times to staying in on the basis of wholly good organisations such as @YSINational, @SNPStudents and @OutForIndy. However, I have seen for myself the number of times that these organisations have been ignored.

2. However, every time these people try to do anything to advance equality, they have been left empty handed while TERFs have been pandered to.

3. In the 4 years I was in the SNP, I have met a whole host of good people trying to do good things. However, I cannot in particular feel that I can in good faith stand in the same organisation as those who want to roll back equality, and intimidate those who disagree.

4. I joined the SNP because I thought that I could advance my vision of independence. However, more and more it has dawned on me that the egalitarian Scotland that I want to see is not something that I will ever get from the SNP.

OK. Texas filed a motion for leave to file a complaint against PA, GA, MI and WI in the Supreme Court. Someone else can lawsplain to you how that works, or you can google the highlighted rules, but briefly, this is a thing they can theoretically do

There is a MASSIVE contradiction at the heart of this complaint, and its doomed for other reasons, too (standing, laches, abstention)

They have three theories for why they can sue:
1) Violation of the Electors Clause of the Constitution ("the Constitution gives state legislatures exclusive control of the manner of selecting electors and judicial action can't change it)
2) "Counties applied different rules"

And 3) "you didn't have as strict voter ID requirements as we'd like, and that's unconstitutional for reasons"

Is it just a coincidence that so many of those who told millions of voters that they would be better off outside the EU and ignored all warnings about the negative consequences of doing so, also tend to oppose wearing ‘muzzles’ and argue that covid is a lot of fuss about nothing?

How many of them never gave a flying fuck about what would happen to the U.K. economy, chanted ‘no deal!’ and ‘let’s go WTO!’ Yet now they suddenly care about the impact of lockdowns on jobs and businesses.

How many of them disparaged expertise when it ran contrary to their Brexit fantasies, and even called such experts ‘traitors’. Yet now they hail ‘the science’ (that agrees with them) to justify their sociopathic libertarianism?

How many revelled in the sadopopulist cruelty of ‘triggering lefties’, and ignored the anxieties, grief and despair of EU citizens forced to apply to live in their own homes? Yet now they worry about the ‘impact of lockdown on mental health.’

How many criticised the NHS & called for its privatisation, (yet still clapped for it when it suited them), who never said a word about the dangerous NHS staff shortages - compounded by Brexit? Yet now they worry about the death toll from cancer and postponed treatments etc

So I've been reporting a story about how you'd fix the impeachment process. It doesn't work for removal, as currently designed. Impeachment was built for a political system without parties. It fails in a system with polarized parties.

The one time it functioned as intended, confusingly, was the time it didn't happen: Richard Nixon wasn't impeached! But the impeachment process, which came at the low ebb of party polarization in American history, convinced his party to force him to resign.

The problem of impeachment is pretty simple: Presidents are leaders of parties. Parties are tied to the political fortunes of presidents. You're asking a party to basically wreck its immediate political future for the good of the system.

This doesn't just have the effect of making impeachment ineffective as a remedy. It's worse than that. It makes impeachment dangerous to the president's party, and gives them a reason to defend him and either normalize or minimize his crimes. As we are seeing right now.
