On this day 28 years ago, a religious site of Muslims, The Babri mosque was illegally demolished in broad daylight by the Hindutva mob.

On the same date, we are here without any sign of justice.
#RememberingBabri (1/25)

The demolition of the Babri Masjid was not just a criminal act, but a stain on Indian society that will remain for centuries to come. That day, along with the Babri mosque, the faith and trust of Indian Muslims in the nation’s secular values were also demolished. (2/25)
The state failed to protect a 500-year-old mosque. The state failed to provide justice. The state failed to protect its Muslim citizens and their trust. The state was a silent spectator and to an extent – co-conspirator. (3/25)
A day before the demolition, on 5th December 1992, BJP’s minister and the hero of liberals, Late. Atal Bihari Vajpayee addressed karsevaks at  Jhandewalan Park, Aminabad, Lucknow. In his provocative speech, he was heard saying....(4/25)
...."Ab bhajan, kirtan karne ke liye baithna padega aur nokilee patthar par toh koi baith nahi sakta, zameen ko samtal karna padega." (the earth has to be flattened – signalling that the structure be brought down). This man went on to become the PM of ‘secular’ India. (5/25)
In September 1990, Lal Krishna Advani, the then President of the Bharatiya Janata Party, along with Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal volunteers began a Rath Yatra (chariot journey) from Somnath Temple, Gujarat.....(6/25)
The purpose of this yatra was to get support and instigate Hindus to come forward and demand a temple at a disputed site. He was a accompanied by thousands of karsevaks belonging to the different part of the country. (7/25)
There are several reports available in the public domain that show that he, during these rallies gave provocative speeches. The Rath Yatra led to communal violence across India. This rath yatra left many dead in its wake. (8/25)
Advani was hailed as a hero by the vast majority of India and later he went on to become deputy Prime Minister of ‘secular’ India. (9/25)
Uma Bharti raised the ‘’Ek dhakka aur do Babri masjid tod do’’ slogan and proudly says that she was associated with the Ramjanmabhumi movement which sparked communal violence across the nation. She went on to become the CM of Madhya Pradesh with a wide accepted mandate. (10/25)
Kalyan Singh, the then CM of UP was also named as a conspirator.  A few years later, he was again elected as the CM of UP and went on to serve as the governor of Rajasthan. (11/25)
K Govindacharya, Murli Manohar Joshi, Vinay Katiyar, etc are just a few of them. There are many, many more. The list is too long. Some were named, some were not, and those who were named were later acquitted by the Indian judiciary. (12/25)
The shame is on the citizens of this nation that they glorified, voted, elected and widely accepted political leaders involved in the destruction of Babri, covering their bigotry in the name of democracy. Time and again, they voted for wolves, by choice.(13/25) #BabriYadRahegi
Soon after the demolition of the Babri Masjid, communal violence erupted all across the country. Women were raped, their houses were set on fire, properties destroyed, thousands were butchered mercilessly and many more displaced forever. (14/25)
Instead of being apologetic, a sizable section of the society celebrates this unfortunate day as ‘Shaurya Divas’ meaning ‘bravery day’. (15/25) #BlackDay
The blood of innocents is not only on those who demolished the mosque and further engaged in riots but also on the state that watched everything, the police officers who failed to perform their duty and the Judges who refused to provide justice. (16/25) #BabriMasjidAwaitsJustice
Babri Demolition- an event that legitimized communalism in the country was a part of the manifesto of a political party. (17/25)
Many ministers still brag about their participation in the demolition and they are often considered as brave heroes for doing so.
(Well, there is nothing brave about demolishing someone’s religious place, with the help of administration. It is a sign of cowardice). (18/25)
The PM of ‘’secular’’ country participated in the Bhoomi Poojan of a site that is built on dead bodies. All this happened right in front of us and yet a large section of our society chose to turn a blind eye, instead of fighting against such communal elements. (19/25)
A lot of people believe that ‘Babri Masjid was illegal’. It is a flawed belief. The fact is, in a democratic country, the Babri Masjid was legal and what happened on 6th December 1992 was not. (20/25)
According to several reports, the members of the VHP, RSS and BJP were planning to bring Babri down since months and the then PM PV Narasimha Rao was even alerted by India’s Intelligence bureau....(21/25)
Was it possible to save the Babri demolition and control the rise of communalism? Yes. Were any efforts made to save Babri demolition and control the rise of communalism? No. (22/25)
17 years later in 2009, Liberian commission submitted it's report to the then PM Manmohan Singh. The Justice Liberhan Commission acknowledged the involvement of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, and Murli Manohar Joshi, (23/25)
The report said, "They have violated the trust of the people...There can be no great
er betrayal or crime in a democracy and this Commission has no hesitation in condemning these pseudo-moderates for their sins of omission’’. (24/25)
‘’A special CBI court concludes its investigation into the Babri demolition of Dec 1992, and acquits all 32 of criminal charges’’. It is nothing but a travesty of justice that the construction of the temple has begun and the accused involved in the demolition are still free.
