In remarks today at the southern border, @POTUS: Millions of our citizens watched on Wednesday as a mob stormed the Capitol and trashed the halls of government.  As I have consistently said throughout my administration, we believe in respecting America's history and traditions...

That is why we are here today: to talk about what we must do to uphold the rule of law in America and how we must continue to support our law enforcement heroes.
For years, politicians ran for office promising to secure the border – only to get elected and do the exact opposite.  But unlike those who came before me, I KEPT MY PROMISES. Today, we celebrate an extraordinary milestone: the completion of the promised 450 miles of Border Wall.
We arrested nearly 500K illegal aliens with criminal records. We removed nearly 20K gang members from the US, including 4,500 members of MS-13.
...
Through the landmark reforms we have put into place, we have ended the immigration chaos and re-established American Sovereignty.
Now, instead of Catch-and-Release we have DETAIN-AND-REMOVE.
...
We instituted a series of historic policy changes to shut down asylum fraud.
This includes the groundbreaking agreement with Mexico known as the Migrant Protection Protocols, or MPP.  Under this agreement, if an illegal alien requests asylum they have to wait in Mexico until their case is heard.
Now, when an illegal immigrant is arrested at our border they can be sent to a neighboring country instead of into a U.S. community.
My Administration also instituted vital public health measures on the border in response to the China Virus. [...] Removing these protections would invite a public health catastrophe of epic proportions.
We also put into place vital measures to protect American workers, keep out terrorists, and stop the abuse of our welfare system.  Removing any of these measures would hamstring our workers, endanger our country, and cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars.
If our border security measures are reversed, it will trigger a tidal wave of illegal immigration.  This will be an unmitigated calamity for national security, public safety and public health.
We have many disagreements in this country, but we should all agree on the urgent need to secure our borders, protect our homeland, and allow law enforcement to fulfill its mission WITHOUT political interference.
ICE and Border Agents swore a sacred oath to uphold the law – and no political appointee should ever order them to violate that oath. The laws that Congress passed must be upheld.

More from Government

Long thread: Because I couldn’t find anything comprehensive, I’m just going to post everything I’ve seen in the news/Twitter about Trump’s activities related to the Jan 6th insurrection. I think the timing & context of his actions/inactions will matter a lot for a senate trial.

12/12: The earlier DC protest over the electoral college vote during clearly inspired Jan 6th. On Dec 12th, he tweeted: “Wow! Thousands of people forming in Washington (D.C.) for Stop the Steal. Didn’t know about this, but I’ll be seeing them! #MAGA.”

12/19: Trump announces the Jan. 6th event by tweeting, “Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!” Immediately, insurrectionists begin to discuss the “Wild Protest.” Just 2 days later, this UK political analyst predicts the violence

12/26-27: Trump announces his participation on Twitter. On Dec. 29, the FBI sends out a nationwide bulletin warning legislatures about attacks https://t.co/Lgl4yk5aO1

1/1: Trump tweets the time of his protest. Then he retweets “The calvary is coming” on Jan. 6!” Sounds like a war? About this time, the FBI begins visiting right wing extremists to tell them not to go--does the FBI tell the president? https://t.co/3OxnB2AHdr
