Can marketing gimmicks and hysteria trump over physics and bad economics? It certainly can in India and many other countries. But let’s take India. Consider this: India’s total solar capacity is 40,000 MW. Excluding roof top & off grid, the ground mounted solar is 35,000 MW 🧵

 This on-grid ground mounted capacity is spread over 210,000 acres or 850 square kms. For perspective, Mumbai’s land area is 650 square kms. 1.3x! If you fill the whole of Mumbai with solar panels plus an additional 30% of Mumbai, you get 35,000 MW - our current solar capacity
Now consider this. The unsung hero that is Nuclear. If you move all of India’s 22 reactors (7500 MW) to Mumbai, it will fit into just 1000 acres. 50% of Bandra.
So, this gigantic solar capacity must be producing insane amount of power for us right?

Units produced last year by our:
Solar - 50 billion units
Nuclear - 43 billion units

Greater Mumbai’s annual electricity requirement - 21 billion units!
Meaning 40% of India’s total solar capacity is enough for just one city. Solar needs 180x more land to produce 1 unit of power versus nuclear! This may not seem apples to apples because as a ‘hot’ country we need to exploit 300 days of sunshine isn’t it?
Our solar must be producing more power compared to say solar in Germany given our weather conditions? Both India and Germany have similar capacities in solar. Germany (10 degrees celsius average) produced 50 billion units. India (25 degrees celsius average) produced 50 bn too!

Solar’s close companion Wind is no angel. Thousands of tons of turbine blades will end up as land fills in India. Fossil fuels are demonized as it is easy to quantify the emission when coal and gas are burnt. Wind and solar get away with murder due to perceived ‘greenness’.
National Solar Mission wants to achieve 100 GW which means 2 more Mumbais full of panels that could’ve otherwise been used for nature. Instead 10xing our amazing nuclear capabilities with a fraction of land would enable cheap, plentiful, reliable and green energy.
More renewables = More CO2.

...करें और तुम भी पुत्र की इच्छा लेकर गूलर वृक्ष का आलिंगन करना। आलिंगन करने के बाद चरू का सेवन करना, इससे तुम दोनो को पुत्र प्राप्ति होगी।परंतु मां बेटी के चरू आपस में बदल जाते हैं और ये महर्षि भृगु अपनी दिव्य दृष्टि से देख लेते हैं।

भृगु ऋषि सत्यवती से कहते हैं,"पुत्री तुम्हारा और तुम्हारी माता ने एक दुसरे के चरू खा लिए हैं।इस कारण तुम्हारा पुत्र ब्राह्मण होते हुए भी क्षत्रिय सा आचरण करेगा और तुम्हारी माता का पुत्र क्षत्रिय होकर भी ब्राह्मण सा आचरण करेगा।"
इस पर सत्यवती ने भृगु ऋषि से बड़ी विनती की।


सत्यवती ने कहा,"मुझे आशीर्वाद दें कि मेरा पुत्र ब्राह्मण सा ही आचरण करे।"तब महर्षि ने उसे ये आशीर्वाद दे दिया कि उसका पुत्र ब्राह्मण सा ही आचरण करेगा किन्तु उसका पौत्र क्षत्रियों सा व्यवहार करेगा। सत्यवती का एक पुत्र हुआ जिसका नाम जम्दाग्नि था जो सप्त ऋषियों में से एक हैं।

1/ I am seeing more and more founder secondary in venture rounds (Secondary = founders selling some of their shares before some other shareholders are able). Series B-D. I see both as an investor and through entrepreneur circles.

2/ I like secondary for entrepreneurs. Moderation is key but in a lot of situations I think it helps accelerate the co. Lots of very smart investors disagree. Here are my thoughts.

3/ Magnitude: My basic rule of thumb from what I see is market is 4+ yrs and up to 10% of founder’s equity stake with some $ cap that makes sense given stage etc. (typically <$10m)

4/ The entrepreneurial journey is brutally hard. Giving some financial relief helps remove one piece of pressure. I don’t think that secondary in the magnitude mentioned impacts the drive/persistence of great entrepreneurs.

5/ That secondary means they will be able to just sleep knowing they can pay their kids’ tuition. Secondary will make most founders better at their jobs, thus accelerating the co.

This decisive battle was fought between the Vijayanagara empire and the Deccan sultanates resulting in a rout of Vijayanagara and ending the last major medieval era Hindu kingdom in south India.(1)

The seeds of 1565 encounter were sown more than 250 years earlier when the forces of the Delhi Sultanate, during the time of Alauddin Khilji and later Md Bin Tughlaq swept through southern India in an expansion spree.(2)

By middle of the 14th century, facing rebellions, Tughlaq withdrew to Delhi, leaving behind 2 empires, Bahmani, which ruled the Deccan from Kalaburagi, and Vijayanagara, which ruled most south India with its capital at Vijayanagar.(3)

The Raichur Doab, between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, existed as a natural boundary between these two kingdoms, with wars often breaking out over control of this territory.(4)
