Why I don't reply to requests for free advice... [THREAD]

 I get asked for free advice a lot. Seriously, a lot. Although I do a certain amount of work for free each year, I tend not to carry out free work except through a recognised pro bono scheme such as Advocate or ELAAS.
It's never as simple as answering your quick question; it's answering your quick question, along with the quick questions from anything up to 15 other people who email, tweet or message me with their own quick questions every single day.
Each of you has a real problem which needs understanding, thinking about, replying, and then making sure I've got a careful note of the conversation and advice given in case two years later you contact me and say the advice was wrong.
The question might well be quick. But if the answer was either quick or straightforward, you'd have found it on Google.
If you want advice, say, on your employment rights, I'd need to see your contract. I'd need to see the relevant correspondence, and policies, and disciplinary or grievance investigation notes and outcomes, and there's usually a long backstory.
I also know that most people who approach me for 'quick' advice know they need to cut out 90% of the background, and it's usually in that background detail that the truth lies.
If I'm giving you advice worth anything, I'll need to drill in and question you about the details, and I'll never take anything you say at your word without challenging it, because that's not how good lawyers work.
I've represented clients in many dozens of cases where we discovered things halfway through the case that fundamentally changed the advice or the outlook, both favourably and unfavourably.
A 'quick' question rarely has a 'quick' answer, at least not if you want advice that comes filtered through my many years' experience of doing this. And if you don't, well then you can ask Bob down the pub.
There's a blurred boundary between informal advice I give to friends or relatives in a social context, and situations where a court would say I have assumed responsibility for professional advice, knowing you are relying on my skills and knowledge.
And if I can be sued by a friend for informal advice in a pub, I can definitely be sued by you if I adopt you as a pro bono client - which is basically what you are if you contact me out of the blue for pro bono advice.
I have insurance of course. All lawyers do. But I don't want to be sued - and I don't want to do work that means I'm taking the risk of being sued unless I'm being paid for it. Getting sued can take dozens of hours in wasted time responding to and dealing with the claim
So if I've given you an answer to your question and it's wrong - or even if you just think it was wrong - I could end up being sued even though I wasn't paid for the advice in the first place.

I'd like to think that helps a lot of people, and I hope it can help you.
But I can't go that step further and apply those guides to the unique scenario that you, as an individual, might find yourself in. At least, I can't do it for you, and everyone else who'd like me to help them for free, whilst still earning a living. Which brings me on to...
At the end of the day, I'm in this to earn a living.

'Quick' advice is synonymous with 'free' advice. You probably wouldn't want to work for free - and I don't want to either.
You wouldn't think it's reasonable to ask an electrician to instal lights for you for free, giving you the benefit of the skills they've learned over the years.
I think it's similarly unreasonable to ask a lawyer to work for free, giving the benefit of their knowledge and skills acquired over years - but that's what you're doing when you ask if you can ask a 'quick quesion'
Every minute I spend giving you free help, and giving the other people who ask me for free help, every day - is one less minute I spend working for my clients who have first call on my work time, and my family, who have first call on my personal time.
To put it another way, if I spent time helping non-paying clients and responding to your calls, tweets and emails during the day, it would be very, very difficult for me to get anything done for my paying clients.
So that's it. Please don't take offence if I don't engage with your request for free advice. What I *can* offer you is this video...

रोग की स्थिति में उत्प्रेरक का कार्य करने वाले ग्रह, आयुर्वेदिक/ऐलोपैथी/होमियोपैथी में से कौन कारगर होगा इसका आँकलन, रक्त विकार, रक्त और आपरेशन की स्थिति, कौन सा आंतरिक या बाहरी अंग प्रभावित होगा इत्यादि गणना करने में कुंडली का प्रयोग किया जाता है।


मेडिकल ज्योतिष में आज के समय में Dr. K. S. Charak का नाम निर्विवाद रूप से प्रथम स्थान रखता है। उनकी लिखी कई पुस्तकें आज इस क्षेत्र में नए ज्योतिषों का मार्गदर्शन कर रही हैं।
प्रथम भाव -
इस भाव से हम व्यक्ति की रोगप्रतिरोधक क्षमता, सिर, मष्तिस्क का विचार करते हैं।


द्वितीय भाव-
दाहिना नेत्र, मुख, वाणी, नाक, गर्दन व गले के ऊपरी भाग का विचार होता है।
तृतीय भाव-
अस्थि, गला,कान, हाथ, कंधे व छाती के आंतरिक अंगों का शुरुआती भाग इत्यादि।

चतुर्थ भाव- छाती व इसके आंतरिक अंग, जातक की मानसिक स्थिति/प्रकृति, स्तन आदि की गणना की जाती है


पंचम भाव-
जातक की बुद्धि व उसकी तीव्रता,पीठ, पसलियां,पेट, हृदय की स्थिति आंकलन में प्रयोग होता है।

षष्ठ भाव-
रोग भाव कहा जाता है। कुंडली मे इसके तत्कालिक भाव स्वामी, कालपुरुष कुंडली के स्वामी, दृष्टि संबंध, रोगेश की स्थिति, रोगेश के नक्षत्र औऱ रोगेश व भाव की डिग्री इत्यादि।

NARHARI AND BHAGWAN PANDURANG/VITTHAL

Once a goldsmith by the name of Narhari lived in Pandharpur. He excelled in his craft. He had vowed not to look at Pandurang or visit his mandir ever, as he was a Shiva Bhakt.
One day, a wealthy merchant visited him.


He wanted a gold girdle studded with precious gems, to be made for Prabhu Vitthal. Narhari refused to make it as it was for Vitthal.
After many requests, he agreed to make the girdle but asked the merchant to bring the measurement from the mandir as he himself would not go there


The measurement was given n he made the girdle. When the girdle was put on Vitthal, it was loose. Narhari had to shorten it. Now the girdle became tight. So Narhari was forced to take measurement on his own. He had to go to the mandir but went blindfolded to avoid seeing Vitthal


In the Mandir, when blindfolded Narhari touched Vitthal, he felt as if he was touching Shiva with matted hair, the moon, snake in His neck and Trishul in His hand. Ecstatic with joy, he removed the blindfold to see Shiva but he found the murti of Vitthal with Rukmini there.


He realised the truth that there was no difference between Vitthal and Shiva. Narhari at once fell at the feet of Panduranga. He then took the measurement of the waist of Vitthal and this time the ornament fit the Murti perfectly.

This decisive battle was fought between the Vijayanagara empire and the Deccan sultanates resulting in a rout of Vijayanagara and ending the last major medieval era Hindu kingdom in south India.(1)

The seeds of 1565 encounter were sown more than 250 years earlier when the forces of the Delhi Sultanate, during the time of Alauddin Khilji and later Md Bin Tughlaq swept through southern India in an expansion spree.(2)

By middle of the 14th century, facing rebellions, Tughlaq withdrew to Delhi, leaving behind 2 empires, Bahmani, which ruled the Deccan from Kalaburagi, and Vijayanagara, which ruled most south India with its capital at Vijayanagar.(3)

The Raichur Doab, between the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers, existed as a natural boundary between these two kingdoms, with wars often breaking out over control of this territory.(4)

I'm gonna do my other star wars thread tomorrow, which will primarily be me yelling at a @RowanKaiser-shaped strawman for calling the First Order and The Resistance "cosplayers who the rest of the galaxy has to deal with"

the deal w/the New Republic, the First Order, and the Resistance is very weird and complex and I actually take issue with how Story Group frames the actual conflict.

pre-TFA stuff is presented as a "cold war" between the New Republic and the remnants of the Empire that form the First Order, which 100% makes sense.

But they frame the First Order's attack on the Hosnian system and the subsequent battle that takes place across TFA and TLJ as a full on war when it's very clearly a coup. A war implies at least equal standing, but the First Order completely wrecks shop and takes over the galaxy.

ok never mind I'm fucking doing this now.

The First Order fleet we see in TLJ is *not* the entire fleet of the First Order (I don't even think Starkiller Base was their main base of operations honestly, it couldn't have been considering they were operating out of Wild Space)

According to psychologists, there are four types of intelligence:

- Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
- Emotional Quotient (EQ)
- Social Quotient (SQ)
- Adversity Quotient (AQ)

1. IQ is the measure of one's ability to comprehend, solve maths; memorize things & recall subject matters.

2. EQ is the measure of your ability to maintain peace with others; keep to time; be responsible; be honest; respect boundaries; be humble, genuine, and considerate.

3. SQ is the measure of one's ability to build a network of friends & maintain it over a long period of time.

4. AQ is the measure of your ability to go through a rough patch in life and come out without losing your mind. It is a new paradigm and can be used to determine who will give up in face of troubles and may abandon their families.

People that have higher EQ & SQ tend to go further in life than those with high IQ but low EQ &SQ.

Most schools capitalize on improving IQ level while EQ & SQ are played down.

A man of high IQ can end up being employed by a man of high EQ & SQ even though he has an average IQ.

Your EQ represents your character; your SQ represents your charisma. Give in to habits that will improve these three Qs but more especially your EQ and SQ.

EQ and SQ make one manage better than the other.

Try not only to have a higher IQ but also to have higher EQ and SQ.
