1/ You cannot be
pro science
pro engineering
pro progress
pro innovation
pro truth
—if you are not pro CRITICISM.

Conjecture followed by criticism is how all of it is done. That which withstands crtiicsm on MERIT not manipulation survives.

Otherwise...

2/ ...otherwise we get society, students, customers, shareholders who believe in things out of fealty, desire, credulity, naivete, fear, hope under the spell or influence or charm of a person
—(a preacher, a politician, a stock promoter) instead of truths that survive criticism..
3/ Any system that can't withstand crticism, can't stand.

In science
repeatability, falsifiability

In politics
debate

In markets
analysis, selling, short-selling

To evade criticism (ban books, make doubt illegal)—is to hide, seeking shelter in shadow from light of truth.
