Everyday when I look at my messages across platforms (DMs, SMS, WhatsApp, etc) and I see requests from the very ridiculous to the not so urgent ones marked urgent, I wonder if things will ever get better having responded to such dutifully for 3years running. I however learnt...

...with the tale of a man who found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat & watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Until it suddenly stopped making any progress and looked like it was stuck. https://t.co/gAnxRRKWqm
So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily, although it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
The man didn’t think anything of it and sat there waiting for the wings to enlarge to support the butterfly. But that didn’t happen. The butterfly spent the rest of its life unable to fly, crawling around with tiny wings and a swollen body.
Despite the kind heart of the man, he didn’t understand that the restricting cocoon and the struggle needed by the butterfly to get itself through the small opening; were God’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings.
To prepare itself for flying once it was out of the cocoon. Distinguished, Our struggles in life develop our strengths. Without struggles, we never grow and never get stronger, so it’s important for us to tackle challenges on our own, and not be relying on help from others.
Since I was 13, I have learnt how to be self reliant. I have no one to run to for bailout and not fixated on anyone to seek out in case of trouble but the Almighty who is always on time and never fails. It is impossible for God to lie, so a covenant with Him is an immutable pact.
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles;
they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 We are a product of our struggles. Don’t allow needless favors deform you.
There are many state sanctioned deformities we have taken as our entitlement beginning from our NYSC Certificates and state of origin letter of identification. Both of which may have outlived their relevance. Socialism can’t thrive in the age of vicious Capitalism.
This is not to say we can’t or shouldn’t help our brothers who are in need indeed, but becoming a willful charity case after 4years in the university without a physical handicap, leaves a lot to be desired. Stop seeing safety nets or wishing for any. You’re built to thrive.
