Want your dog to be around as long as possible ?

B.A.R.F :
BIOLOGICALLY APPROPRIATE RAW FOOD

A Thread 🧵⬇️

First what are my qualification to speak on this? Grew up training schutzhund & ring sport w/some of the best trainers & dog men in the northeast. I’m not a Vet so take that into accounts I’ve also implemented this diet with all my dogs w/ great success

As a kid I worked for a Shepard Breeder & Dog Trainer. What I quickly noticed was that none of his dogs ate dog-food. They ate raw chicken backs, leaf lard, soft bones & occasional puréed vegetables. The result? They lived about twice as long as they were supposed to 🤔

Why 1)Dogs are not designed to eat highly processed dead kibble 2)The lynch pin of a dogs health is their teeth-once this goes they are very susceptible to endocarditis & from here it often goes down hill quickly. Eating a diet high in raw bones keeps dental health optimal

My dog Ike is 6 his teeth look about as good as you can hope for his age. Never had a cleaning.

If your dog has high amounts of tarter you need to get that addressed ASAP

Also f’k greenies and all that plastic teeth cleaning crap (don’t need study to know that poison)

Well this is to much work? Not really find a high quality butcher (obviously u don’t want to be feeding low grade raw meat to ur dog) have them sell you 20-30lbs of chicken broken into 4-6backs per bag put in freezer take out as needed. You can often get these for ~ $1/lb

I’ve done this with three dogs they’re from a very tightly bread bloodline. The grandfather is the same on three sides😭 On dog food ur lucky if they live to be 10-12y/o. My last one lived to be 18 and was still hoping 6 foot fences at 17y/o

Here’s a video of Ike eating -he’s a little confused because he normally eats in his crate. But you can hear the work he has to do to break up the bones. This is what they are designed to do in nature. Dogs also have a very long cecum which is designed to deal with bacteria

Quick caveats. Never feed beef bones they are too hard -especially shank- and can crack your dogs teeth (about 4-6k to fix). Stick to lamb, venison, and chicken. Low oxalate vegetables powder is great to mimic veggies the dog would get from prey’s stomach content

Also don’t try with small dogs without researching I have zero experience with small breeds. Here is some more info I highly recommend the diet but also recommend you doing your homework first just google BARF DIET
