Mayong is located in Morigaon district about 40 km from the city of Guwahati, Assam.The word 'mayong' is originated from the Sanskrit word 'Maya which signifies illusion.

Mayong is known as the 'Land of Black Magic'. It is also speculated that black magic started in the whole world from this village. The people here believe that this village belongs to Ghatotkach, son of Bheem. Ghatotkach was the king of Mayong.
