So let's start with the history that preceded Gödel's results

It is pretty much the history of math so let's see if we can comprise it in a thread

The study of math as a science started in ancient Greece 🏛

Although math was applied earlier in other ancient civilizations, philosophers like Tales were the first that studied mathematical abstractions like shapes without asking for the practical purpose of that study.

Math started to have its very own questions that only could be answered inside math itself.

A list of questions and checks to help you see if you should automate a process or not.

I've had a lot of people asking for this.

This is just what I use.

1st half are open-ended questions for exploration
2nd half are rankings for prioritization.

1. Do I understand what I am automating?

Often times we think we are automating a process, but instead, we may be automating a destructive pattern.

Do it manually for a few weeks.

Dont perpetuate bad actions.

Go through the learning as a person, automate what you learned.

Example:

If you are filtering people for hire, and you automate right off the bat, you may automate based on the wrong criteria.

Its better to filter manually, do some calls, have some interviews, and adjust the process a bit until you are automating the right thing.

2. What do I gain?

Automating, just to automate is not useful. It just creates another system to maintain without any upside.

Each automation adds to the complexity of your business process. As complexity increases, so does areas for breakage and unintended consequences.

3. What do I lose?

Every automation results in loss.

Proximity to the process.

You may miss a "regime shift" as things change.

You may lose closeness to your customers and personal interaction.

You miss an understanding of your operation as it grows or changes.

Right now my Father-in-law is fighting for his life. He has Covid and was put on a ventilator this morning. We are understandably worried and hoping for the best, but know that it is 1/x

an uphill battle. He has been battling it since Jan 1st. He did everything right. Distanced, sanitized, stopped working (renovation contractor) as did his g/f.

All of that went out the window b/c of a selfish, ignorant asshole that was one of his best friends. This guy is 2/x

a huge piece of shit. He was sent home from camp b/c of a Covid outbreak and called the one person that he knew would give him a ride home from the airport, my FIL.

B (FIL) is one of the most selfless people I have ever met. He always gives 110% of himself and never asks 3/x

anything for himself.

This "friend" did NOT tell B why he was home early and we didn't find out until it was too late. B felt off on NYD and got tested. Found out he had Covid on the 3rd of Jan and has been sick ever since. Monday he went to the hospital and was addmitted 4/x

A Thread - If my 48 year old self could talk to my 20 year old self I would say:
- No one's born knowing anything - we all learn. Never stop learning.
- You can do anything you set your mind to. Don't limit yourself, set your own goals, don't listen to naysayers.
- Love you /1

-Set your goals, have a plan, focus, focus, focus.
- Life will be there when you achieve your goals
- Trust your gut, especially with people. If you feel funny about a person, trust it.
- Keep your circle small and tight
- Create healthy habits
- Be spiritual - stay centered. /2

- Don't enter into any long term commitments if you have reservations, especially marriage.
- Never compare yourself to others. It is a recipe for unhappiness.
- It is okay to fail, I have learned more from failing than succeeding.
- Be kind.
- Be curious
- Forgive yourself. /3

- Learn to accept criticism, especially from those who truly love you.
- Perfection is a myth - we all make mistakes, try to learn from them
- Choose a life partner whom you are compatible with, have same interests, goals, respect and love

I am worried about my friend Jenn and her co workers that run @HarvestHillsYYC.

They have run themselves ragged and need help.

There's a reason why Jenn and the team have not posted or shared a lot lately on their social media accounts.

She is probably going to kill me for doing this (RIP @Hell_Berta)......but I need to do something for them. I can't sit back and watch them burn themselves out.

As everyone knows, Jenn was in a car accident in Dec. and she was hurt pretty bad. I am talking grade 3 concussion bad and really really bad whiplash and other injuries.

She is at home recovering and her fellow board members and dedicated volunteers have picked up and helped.

The entire team and I are blown away at what Just Jen and Meryl accomplish. They do enough work for 10 people each!!!! I was exhausted at just doing Jenn and Meryls job for just a day!

But as I said I need everyone's help.

For the people that saw the picture of me and my black cat. (Before it was removed by twitter for inciting possible violence...most likely because I had posted it with a mask on or something like that.)

I knew going into a class where a single Qirā’ah is completed will usually be quite emotional (let alone one where all 10 will be complete).

I mean I’ve watched countless Ijazah videos...

I pretend I’m a tough cookie sometimes, but really I know for sure that (if Allah swt gives me life) I’ll definitely break down during my last lesson.

So I knew these students were going to be emotional. And they were, two broke down, one didn’t. She (perhaps wisely) didn’t say much.

What caught me by surprise was I was also feeling emotional??

Thread - When in doubt, just move

In this thread, I'll discuss one of the major issues I had a couple of years back.

The issue of staying still when there's no reason to.

The issue of not actively doing something and thinking I could think my way out of problems.

Let's get into it.

I've always been thinking too much for my own sake.

I like to break down complex ideas, look at them from a bird's eye standpoint.

This is cool, but only to a certain extent.

It starts being very problematic when it comes to practicality.

What would happen is, every time I came around a roadblock, I would try to think harder (thinking that it would lead me to a solution)

It doesn't.

All it happened was I was left feeling more overwhelmed and with no answers.

This is what I would call "Living life passively."

When I look at unhappy people, there's usually a common denominator in them.

They're letting life happen to them.

They've settled for the "comfy" job, for the "stable" relationship, or they just straight-up haven't achieved jack shit and yet they don't do anything about it.
